I think it’s important to note, whether we like the series or not, because of SLB’s creation, everyone is learning about the women of Heeramandi and their sacrifices. This in itself is a huge success. I personally loved the series.

The best part about the series is that it emphasizes the contribution of Tawaifs in the freedom struggle of India, one of the most ignored & forgotten topic. We must recognise & respect the contribution of Real life Tawaifs like Azeezun Baai & Vidhyadhari Baai.❤🇮🇳

@@Arcturianx248 I'm not exactly sure about the historic authenticity of contribution of Heeramandi's Tawaifs, but Tawaifs elsewhere have contributed to freedom struggle quite immensely.
They participated in Swadeshi, Dandi March and formed "Tawaif Sabha" in Varanasi to assist Independence Movement.
Azeezun Baai of Kanpur had sacrificed her life in the freedom struggle.
Apart from her other Tawaifs like Vidhyadhari Baai, Husna Baai, Nasreen Baai, Hussaini Khanum (in Bibighar Massacre), Gauhar Jaan, Begum Hazrat Mahal, Begum Samru, Begum Akhtar, Dharmman Bibi etc were the Tawaifs who contributed in various activities associated with Independence Movement!

@@Arcturianx248 Brother, as per Time & DNA India, the story of Bibbojaan in Heeramandi is inspired by Azeezun Baai of Kanpur & Gauhar Jaan of Kolkata!
It looks like they've taken inspiration from the general literature & orature of Tawaifs of north India and then compiled them under one common banner of "Heeramandi"!
It would have been much more appropriate & accurate if this was shown in relation Lucknow instead of Lahore! Since Lucknow was the epitome of Tawaif culture, native Urdu language & was in the vicinity of most of the Tawaif freedom fighter linked activities!

Heeramandi fascinated me. Being a fashion designer, costumes are somthing i love to study and it is a feast for my eyes. I can't get over the beautiful costumes and i can see the efforts taken to make those beautiful attires. And of course his elaborate sets, so much detailings, so much thoughts and efforts put into the detailing of the sets and costumes. The casting was also vwry out of the box, no one would have thought of mabisha koirala but she did a fabulous job. Sonakshi also did a fabulous job. All in all I'm in awe of the series and am so glad that he made this masterpiece. I am very curious to know more about the lives and lifesryes of these courtesans and i had no idea they existed. Thanks to him i know now and now I'd like to find out more about them.

    • @virferind7946
      @virferind7946 22 дня назад +2

Yeah sure. These were amongst the most fascinating women of our country. They were prominent in almost all the major Indian cities in north, central & central-south (Deccan) region of the country!
Their identity has multiple roles- Entertainers (primarily), Poetess, Singer, Dancer, Musician, Advisor, Fashionist, Feminist, Partner & Mistress. Children from elite families used to learn manners & adab from them! They engaged in sçxual relations with their patrons & visitors if they prefer! They played an important role in preservation & evolution of Kathak & Hindustani Classical Music and assisted in our freedom struggle! They're akin to Geishas of Japan. They've been an important part of India's Culture & History.
They were not exclusively Muslims. A lot of Hindu Tawaifs were also there like Vidhyadhari Baai. There even was a "Tawaif Sabha" in Varanasi to support independence movement.
Most notable are Umrao Jaan of Lucknow, Mah Laqa Baai of Hyderabad, Azeezun Baai of Kanpur, Gauhar Jaan of Kolkata etc. There are many great movies on them Pakeezah (Meena Kumari), Umrao Jaan (Rekha & Aishwarya Rai), Tawaif (Rati Agnihotri), Ghunghroo (Smita Patil), Sadhana (Vyjayanthimala) etc.
Tawaif System declined due to British oppression & loss of patronage and many of these great artists had to resort to direct prostitution. That's how courtesans became prostitutes and their image tarnished.
Even today, at many places in India there are claimed Tawaifs as in Ghazipur, Burhanpur etc.
As far as their fashion is concerned, I guess 'Farshi Pajama' is most notable. I've heard that the designer had recreated some of the rare patterns for this series that were popular earlier!

On the other hand prostitutes are those women who unfortunately have to attend multiple customers every night as a matter of compulsion!
Later in the history, due to British policies against arts & dances of Tawaifs & due to loss of patronage, Tawaif System got downgraded and the Tawaifs (courtesans) were pushed into direct prostitution and that's when the lines between being a courtesan (Tawaif) & a prostitute (Veshyaa) became blur!

I think, more the art, more the delight! There are great songs, classical dances & chaste Urdu dialogues to hold onto the attention of the viewers, in addition to the cinematography, aesthetics & extravagant sets. There's great acting by Manisha, Aditi & Sonakshi (and a small but memorable role by Farida Jalal). There exist a dedicated audience for classic content, for them art is never enough & never excessive!
The series has garnered 4.5 million views & 33 million accumulated viewership hours in the first week, that's a very positive response. If people had left midway how come it accumulated so many hours? 4.5 multiplied to 8 (for 8 hours), and we would get a figure close to its accumulated viewership hours so that means- most of the people have watched it completely, very few people left it midway (not surprisingly).

Sanjay sir is a great scientist. Everytime, he comes with innovative masterpiece.
Needless to say, Heeramandi has been delicately crafted with all the intricacies of pre-independance era where courtesan culture was more than art and entertainment.
This could be clearly depicted through the characters of Bibbojaan and Fareedan.
Not all nawabs were debaucher. One such example is the character of Nawab Tajdar, who sacrificed his life for his country.
The story of the series is beautifully woven.
Indeed, it's not a single piece story however every character in this series is a story. It's an indescribable journey of living in past through this Webseries.
Each and every actor has done 100 percent justification to their roles.
Applauds to the entire crew of Heeramandi.

Absolutely loved these series. The lovely use of Urdu language in songs and dialogues. The whole production was Epic and each character came through so well 👌🏽 The whole cast did a phenomenal job. The series portrayed the courageous women who faught for freedom, even when society didn't find value in them, still together they knew their own value and stood strong for freedom of the next generations! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I will definitely watch it again ❤💯🙌🏼👌🏽

This web series is outstanding. For the first we came to know the difference between tawaifs and prostitution. Most importantly, for the first time we saw tawaif's patriotism, which is a reality we never knew. Thanks a lot to Bhansali Sir 🙏💖. We are waiting for more such historical web series.

I have watched the series.. I really liked it..
It talks about the era when Nawabs were sent to learn "TEHZIB" and "SHAYARI" to Shahi Mohalla..
Where women used to showcase their talent only ..not prostitution.
As the ages passed on . .. It turned into.Brothel and its TRUE not a fiction
