I don’t share the same beliefs as LDS, but I believe in teaching my children God’s character and how to have godly character, and that’s all it goes into! So I agree!
I’m a Catholic who uses TGTB. It’s more Catholic friendly than something like Masterbooks is. Everyone who blasts TGTB because “OMG LDS!” can’t point to a single example that they find troubling, it’s all “feelings” and “I don’t want to support the LDS church.” Ok fine, you do you, but go clutch your pearls elsewhere. TGTB doesn’t work for everyone and that’s fine too! But they are, in my opinion, the most generous company of high quality curriculum I’ve come across.
Absolutely agree 100%! I have heard that argument as well! I haven’t seen any inference or hint at Mormonism in the curriculum! Its a fantastic curriculum!!!
It’s a weak argument too. They pretty much wouldn’t be able to shop anywhere because behind the scenes they all are shady. At least she’s churning out beauty.
Your channel was the reason I found TGTB last year and I’m so thankful for that! We are moving away from their “competitor” for 2nd grade, because I’m so taken aback by the way the company talks down on this curriculum. Their attitude towards Jenny on their FB group (which is run by their company) is the most non-Christian response I’ve ever seen. I love that she created something that can be used by all faiths.
Parents who are “freaking out” about the writing just need to wait until the high school levels.😆 We used HS Level 1 last year, and my daughter wrote many essays, poetry analysis, and creative writing assignments. It’s definitely ENOUGH. ((As a former public school middle school and high school English teacher - it is much better than anything students do in public school. It’s also much better IMHO than more traditional homeschool curriculum bc it’s enjoyable and beautiful.)) And oh my word. People who continue to ask about Jenny being Mormon - I can’t believe it is still an issue. I want to ask them how many Usborne books they own, bc all Usborne science books promote evolution and the Big Bang theory. Why aren’t they hung up on that?!? 🙄
We are working through TG&TB and I love that it prompts the TEACHER to insert and teach about the history of your own denomination. How much MORE non-bias is that 🤷🏻♀️
Well when your a well known homeschool mom and have your own curriculum to promote, the best way of course is to bash your competitor! 😂🤣😂🤣 this question gets me every time
My husband is a trained preacher in a non denominational church. No, The Good and the Beatiful is not LDS doctrine. He would notice. It is really non denominational. What I really like is they leave the whole age of the earth up to parents and churches.
Thank you SO much for sharing all of that! I was definitely curious about the writing part. I was “kicked” out (basically told If someone asked about a curriculum, I was NOT allowed to share or speak about TGTB) in a homeschool Christian group they knew only myself and one other used it so I felt very attacked. I was crushed. I had just moved to a brand new state across the US and was excited to meet “likeminded” people. It devastated me the judgment I felt. I remember searching for your videos and it was a comfort to know I was not alone and it was what you had just said...”Silly!” We have truly been blessed by this curriculum and my kids love it and it’s made my homeschooling journey just really enjoyable and less stressful. Hands down will recommend to everyone! Thank you again for your time!
Great video Ashley! I prayed a lot before choosing the good and the beautiful because so many people were telling me not to use it because Jenny was LDS ... I actually asked but who makes these other curriculums you are using ... what's their denomination? And people say "that's different"... but how? It's honestly been the biggest blessing. I went online downloaded the curriculums that were free. Read through it. And it's been the biggest blessing. I actually remember watching your video years ago about addressing this concern. Thanks for all you share mama. You have blessed many by sharing your thoughts and showing us glimpses of your life. I know that's not easy. God bless ❤
I completely agree. We started HS 3 years ago. I wanted to use TGTB so badly but out of fear I bought curriculum else where. I kept seeing videos, from Ashley and other as to the wonderful blessing TGTB brought to their HS. Mid year I gave up and ordered LA, Science and History. I only wish I would have trusted my own discernment instead of listening to someone who spoke so poorly about being a Christian and using TGTB to only go on to promote her own curriculum. Our home has been so blessed by Ashely and her encouragement as well as Jenny and TGTB. Thank you Ashley!!!!
My daughter is going into 1st grade and has struggled learning to read. I bought level K language arts and she has been reading the reader everyday! She has so much confidence now and that is so important!
How I feel about the writing is that, it’s age appropriate. No it’s not comparable to public school. My daughter is in level 2. I have one child who goes to public school. Public school children in second grade are required to write paragraphs. Most can’t do it well, but it’s the standard. Teachers have to push the kids to write them with a lot of scaffolding. The standard is really not age appropriate. I like that the writing it so gentle. The writing my daughter has done with TGTB has been meaningful for her without me having to hold her hand excessively if that makes sense.
I’m Jewish and LOVE the TGTB curriculum! I have not found anything that is specific to LDS. In fact, throughout the entire K curriculum (math and LA), I think we only even saw Jesus mentioned once or twice. Most of the language is “G-d made this or that,” and “Look at the wonders of G-d!” etc. Absolutely nothing specific to any denomination. People who don’t use it for that reason are obviously afraid, and don’t even want to try it. I am VERY cautious about what my kids see and hear and learn, but they should just buy a PDF download and read through it themselves if they are so concerned. 🤷🏻♀️
I love the good and the beautiful. Thankfully it’s the first curriculum I’ve used and it was for kindergarten and my son has grown so much in his confidence with math and reading!
Amen! I am so over people being so ridicule of TGTB being LDS. I often wander if they are as concerned about the beliefs of every other curriculum they use. Do they use any secular curriculums? I feel that it is really quite judging of not using it just because the founder is LDS.
I’m also going to state that I truly believe that God called Jenny to create this curriculum. It is so evident! They are even able to offer FREE pdf of LA and now math. To me, that’s a God thing. The company has grown so much with her obedience. She is faithful.
Parents over stress about writing. If you are reading good literature and narrating. Kids writing will be great. I always thought it odd that people added to TGATB. We haven't used there LA but are looking into for my younger kiddos. I've already graduated one without a formal writing program and he's in college and doing great. Thanks for posting this. You don't want to over burden kids even high schoolers. They need to have joy of learning too.
We use and love TGTB. I suppose many Christians' concern regarding the religion of the author is that they want to make sure LDS doctrine isn't incorporated into the curriculum (i.e. Jesus and Lucifer are brothers born of a heavenly Father and heavenly Mother, we are here on earth working our way to godhood, the Book of Mormon supercedes the Bible, etc.) Once people discover that there is none of that written into the curriculum I think they'd feel better about it. That is probably why you get the question so often. It's a reasonable concern with a fairly easy answer.
You look beautiful in that peachy coral color Ashley. Every once in a while I see that random video on the Ytube platform about TG&TB being a “cult”. It is sad to me that a program would be so attacked and maligned in that mean girl way by people who are in the homeschool community. If a program is not right for a particular family they should simply move along.
My evaluator told me “you know this is made by a LDS right?” I said “of course, but it’s non denominational.” She told me “I would just be careful as you get to older grade levels…” insinuating that there would be hidden stuff and I wouldn’t see it if my kids were doing independent work. I just took it with a grain of salt and moved on!
It seems like you’re a no-nonsense mom but like you don’t lose it. How do you work on that? I have high expectations for my kids and struggle with not yelling when they disobey.
Awesome video! It makes me so sad to see these videos and blogs saying they aren't using tgatb anymore bc it's "Mormon". We finished our first year up recently. We used it all. History, language, math, science, creative writing, electives, science and more. There is no Mormon teachings in there. We are apostolic pentecostal and have found NOTHING contrary to our beliefs. They have all religious quotes on their site by Mormon people and there's nothing doctrinal. Love it, love it, love it!
We've just started TGATB History unit 3 (because the US History unit was the next part in history from our previous curriculum) and I am looking forward to the variety of the units. My main concern and question is did your kids have any difficulty keeping everything straight? I plan for mine to keep a timeline to help with that but just curious as to how your kids have done with the bouncing around in history from a comprehension of history timeline standpoint. Thanks!
If it is difficult to skip through the timeline; you could consider going through “like” units from all of the history levels in one year. Using unit three from all four levels in one year to just cover US history as an example.
Hi Ashlee! I'm starting TGTB History 1 this year. I understand about 2 lessons/wk should get us through the school year. When you teach it, do you teach one lesson in a day or spread it out over 2-3 days? Thank you!!
My 15 year old hopes to play golf in college so I've looked through the NCAA requirements for homeschool, I'm not sure doing a quarter of a credit each year of each time period would work with what is required. Does your daughter hope to play college soccer? Have you looked at the NCAA stuff (my theory was if I could meet their requirements, I'd be able to meet other division's requirements as well)? Just curious how you think that would work.
Loved this video! We are huge TGTB fans! I’m not on Facebook anymore though and I usually get my “insider” info from the fb group. Do you know if they have announced any back to school sales yet?
Hi, if I was to order all 4 years of History, do you recommend waiting till the revised has come out? Thank you for this video, I'm new to the Good and the Beautiful and it was, as is all your videos very helpful.
I also LOVE TGATB! I noticed that you often supplement with Explode the Code and Wordly Wise. Would you mind sharing the children’s grade years you would recommend those for? I think I remember you saying 3-6 for Wordly Wise? Thanks so much for being an inspiration in my homeschool journey. ❤️🙏
We love explode the code. I use ABC series for K student and started with book 2 for my 2nd grader. He did two books this year so will be on book 4 for 3rd. But for my K student he will do 1 and 2 most likely for 1st and move on from there. It’s simple and all the kids seem to really enjoy it.
It's wild to me that people are still hung up on the fact that they think there is a hidden message. I had to lend my curriculum to my friend so she could see what was in it and see that there was nothing about that in there.
Love this and love TGATB! We are also Christians who use this curriculum and I’ve never seen specific LDS doctrine. I feel like this would have been a non-issue in the homeschool community f that certain someone hadn’t made her video to diss TGATB then next promote her own curriculum. Shady!!
That is so true what you’re saying about the reading freak out and the writing freak out! Thank you for your input! May God bless you Ashley! ❤️- Michelle
The “reading freak out!” For sure, writing is the same! Great perspective! We are starting year 3 of TGATB History and year 2 of science and language arts. My 6th grade son is a reluctant writer. Last years LA completely sparked his interest! He LOVED reading the stories aloud even though I had planned for him to read quietly. I was feeling a but concerned about his writing skills. One of the assignments was a research a topic and write about it! He took it upon himself to do the assignment without my having to nag🤷♀️ He LOVES LOVES this curriculum! I wish I had had this for my two older boys!!!
We only used TGATB for one year (level 4) and there was plenty of writing involved. I was more concerned about the lack of grammar and reading comp so we supplemented in those two areas. LA was the only subject we used, but do plan to try one of the free science units in the fall to check it out. We'll see. I didn't see a lot of doctrine in the curriculum. A few things here and there maybe. Mostly I just didn't feel like it was a very strong program. I think people are just trying to leverage their buying power more.
It says on their website they will be releasing 6-8 in the coming years but not this school year. I'm pretty sure I also read they are considering high school math but it's not currently in the works.
I read a comment on their Facebook page written by the company that 6th grade math would release summer 2022, 7th grade math summer 2023, 8th grade 2024.... but I don’t remember how many grades they specified. Hope that helps.
I just checked it. It is a response to a question on their Facebook page under the math announcement. Someone asked about other levels of math. They specified it up to 8th grade in the order I stated in my above comment. 🙂
You definitely answered my questions in regards to high school. We love TGTB History. I was hoping to continue to use it, but my son chose The Mystery of History this year. I did share TGTB history with my sister-in-law. With that being said, I will share this video with her because she has a 9th grader this year, just like myself and she needs a little assistance after having a new baby this year. Thank you for this! I am also over the whole “morman” debacle.
Unfortunately another popular RUclipsr made people super worried about the curriculum when she publicly stopped using the curriculum before releasing her own and partnering with an anti Latter-day Saint company. It’s one of the first things that pops up when you google the curriculum. It’s sad.
I mentioned using this curriculum to a fellow homeschooling parent, and I was given a lecture about how the materials and creator "brain wash" you. I was confused, so asked that parent what part of this curriculum they used. Surprisingly they had not used it at all! They just based their opinion based on what others have said online. That is very frustrating (and sad) because one should come up with opinions on their own by trying the curriculum first. Regardless of our religious views, we've had no issues including TGATB and materials from other curriculum companies to our learning journey. I think a good chunk of the negativity towards Mrs. Jenny is based off of jealousy and/or not taking the time to actually research the curriculum.
My big fear about joining a homeschooling group was being judged or questioned for what curriculum I use. A main benefit of homeschooling is to choose what works best for your kids!
Hi! Do you use only TGTB math for your high schooler or do you add other programs? If so what age did you start adding? Thanks! I really enjoy your channel. I’ve been watching for a couple years but this is my first time posting 😊
My question is, do you feel it is CM in flavor? I have looked at it online some but I would like to get your opinion since you have used it for years now.
The nature appreciation and art study as well as the poetry all lend itself somewhat to portions of what CM focuses on. Appreciating beauty and learning from all sources. But it’s def not a cm curriculum.
As for the pre-k, just starting it with my 4 yo son…he ADORES it🥰🥰🥰 fully intend to use TGATB for my youngest all the way!!! Had to go with a specific program for my dyslexic 10 yo but love TGATB for everything
I'm going to be forwarding this like crazy! Im always raving about it but lots of questions. And good grief if I hear one more thing about the Morman debacle... People it's NOT! Haters just like to hate. It is Christian but people from secular to catholic to Muslim to you name it use it AND these groups are even on Facebook. Its flexible and beautiful. TGATB is a true lifesaver. Wish I would of found it sooner! ( you too Ashlee lol).🌴😎
Trying to hold out for the new history to be released before getting them. I’m also excited I’ll be able to use the pre-K and k primer with my daughter soon. We have the discontinued level 1 as a back up for this upcoming school year since we start August 2nd, but I am looking forward to getting the new one as well. I’m glad you don’t reply to the last question anymore. It seems to be a character flaw for them most of all to let it bother them that much or that someone isn’t judging a person by their faith but rather the content of their product. Go you. As always another great video. Thank you for sharing.
YES YES! The reading and writing freak out so true!!!!! 👏 well said. I saw the math K is on their site but it isn’t free? Will it be like the LA that 1-5 grades are free? And u pay for K?
Love your videos! And love TGTB!! I am not concerned about Mormonism but my question is, how does TGTB history weave together biblical history so that it’s all one big picture? Is this something they do or not really?
I don’t share the same beliefs as LDS, but I believe in teaching my children God’s character and how to have godly character, and that’s all it goes into! So I agree!

I agree, they are by FAR the most affordable high quality curriculum around
Fellow Catholic mama here and I agree🙏🏻❤️
Absolutely agree 100%! I have heard that argument as well! I haven’t seen any inference or hint at Mormonism in the curriculum! Its a fantastic curriculum!!!
YES!

Yes!! The usborne books! That is such a great thing to point out also!
Thank you for your input on the writing!

Exactly. It was so clear and calculated and it’s why I’ll never use a single thing. So wrong.
@@GraceandGrit yes, we will never use it either!! 🙄
I agree...plus the condescending attitude of hers! I won't purchase even a mini unit from her.
Agree with this so much. Not only that you can tell it looks similar to TGTB so that “person” got their ideas from TGTB.
My husband is a trained preacher in a non denominational church. No, The Good and the Beatiful is not LDS doctrine. He would notice. It is really non denominational. What I really like is they leave the whole age of the earth up to parents and churches.

Would you suggest getting the handwriting book and the language arts book??
I would!
@@GraceandGrit thank u:)
It’s sad.
I stopped watching her...her behavior regarding this subject isn't very Christian like, plus her overall attitude rubs me the wrong way.
I’m using TGATB and Sonlight haha best of both worlds IMO.
What has been your favorite History Level? I’m thinking of starting with level 2 or 3 this year.
Also, love that top of you! Pretty color 🥰
Thankyou! We’ve enjoyed all years
You look beautiful..that color is great on you and your eyeshadow goes so well with it
So sweet thankyou!
Thank you!!!!!
Beautifully answered Ashlee! 👏👏👏
As for the pre-k, just starting it with my 4 yo son…he ADORES it🥰🥰🥰 fully intend to use TGATB for my youngest all the way!!! Had to go with a specific program for my dyslexic 10 yo but love TGATB for everything
Can you link your headband !?
Target! In store!
Do you know if all levels will have a video?
Yes!
I think the videos actually start with level 4
I'm going to be forwarding this like crazy! Im always raving about it but lots of questions. And good grief if I hear one more thing about the Morman debacle... People it's NOT! Haters just like to hate. It is Christian but people from secular to catholic to Muslim to you name it use it AND these groups are even on Facebook. Its flexible and beautiful. TGATB is a true lifesaver. Wish I would of found it sooner! ( you too Ashlee lol).🌴😎
Agree mama! Thanks for watching!
Excellent video Ashlee, as usual! You are an encouragement to so many!
Yes!
@@GraceandGrit I thought that the Math curriculum was going to be $49.99 including manipulatives? Not free
Math 1-5 will be free download or $49.99 for the physical (similar to LA 1-5)
Love your videos! And love TGTB!! I am not concerned about Mormonism but my question is, how does TGTB history weave together biblical history so that it’s all one big picture? Is this something they do or not really?
Random question but is your summer bundle linked on Instagram? I can't find it. Also is it too advanced for my Kindergartener?
It’s not available any longer.
Very well said!
Math is free for levels 1-5 🙂
Do you have a link to that, please? I can only find LA 1-5 free. Thank you
Yes, I stated that in the video.
It’s not available yet. Check back end of august.
Grace and Grit You said K-5, so I was just letting you know it’s 1-5 😁
@@GraceandGrit Thank you, I didn’t get that far in the video before reading Jess’ comment. 🙂
