- Excerpts from the film 'The Fog of War: Eleven Lessons from the Life of Robert S. McNamara' meant to elucidate what we are really getting into when we start wars and give individuals the ability to annihilate our planet.
Robert Strange McNamara served under Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson from 1961 to 1968 as US Secretary of Defense and as a Captain in the Air Force for 3 years during World War 2. He knows more about American war policies probably moreso than any man alive. He was also the architect of the Vietnam war, but resigned from office in 1968 after the Tet Offensive because it was a catastrophe and the American people had found out the US government had been lying through their teeth about what was happening in Vietnam. Hopefully his faults will one day save us from our own.
An ancient relic have I found. An 11 year old you tube clip with 10 comments all 8 years or older, and not one like amongst them. Inconceivable. May God have mercy on our souls.
Sometimes you find a gem. At least it's not the only video
`The fog of war` is an excellent documentary. I have studied this movie countless number of times, in fact I own several copies. I strongly recommend watching a few times America. In 1961 Kennedy exposed the new world order and it`s mechanisms. In 1962 he saved us from nuclear war. In 1963 he announed the withdraw of toops in Vietnam. This enraged certain factions. Shortly after in 1963 he was murdered in the most vulgar way, in front of his wife and the American public, followed by his brother
His intellect and memory recall at age 85 was amazing.
You have to respect MacNamara's ability for self-criticism. That's a rare thing in world leaders.
the caveat in his position is that he was at death's doorstep and had nothing to lose, but hey at least he was willing to divulge his position and rationalize the decisions that happened during his tenure. I sometimes wonder and wish Cheney and other controversial figures into the 21st century would do documentaries like this
@@simunator I honestly wonder if Cheney and Rumsfeld are capable of introspection and empathy like Mac is.
@@oldcremona Well Rumsfeld certainly couldn't as he's now dead.
@@oldcremona Errol Morris did a documentary on Rumsfeld as well. The answer is in that film, or you can watch Errol's interview which reveals his thoughts on Rumsfeld.
agree, great introspection really was an IBM lol
An excellent documentary which is today - february 2022 - much more actual than ever before.
2022?
@@AmberLantern Thank You. While the pandemic i've lost my sense of time.
At 8:18 “LeMay said that if we lost the war we’d all be prosecuted as war criminals - and he was right… But what makes it immoral if you lose but not if you win?”
I went to West Point and saw this in high school. I have forced my friends and family through great pain to watch this documentary. It's been my life goal to make this mandatory watch for every military leader to watch and read McNamara's book Ghost.
I try to get people to watch it. SO important that people learn more about what is at stake and how easily it can be lost to us all.
Dude, goolge capitalism..........thats your enemy.......@@davidferrara1105
This film has the most impactful musical score ever put to film......the brilliant Phillip Glass.
I remember reading a famous article -- McNamara and 3 others were the authors. I studied it in 1982, when it was published. The four wrote a deeply thoughtful article about what nuclear deterrence should and should not be. I didn't fully agree with that article then -- my ideas differ more from the mainstream than McNamara's -- and that is still true. But if the US and allies had followed McNamara's advice, in 1982 and 2003 (when the film for this RUclips was made), the world would now be a safer place than it is.
What is this thing we behold round about us? A very precious jewel in strange hands.
I've seen the full documentary at least 10 times. This man's intellect was astounding. Very complex & controversial. I think it's easily in my top 5 documentaries of all time.
After WW2, every US leaders think, all problem can solve by war. but it need vietnam to enlighten them.
and an afghanistan
War and the lose of life are forever connected in unholy matrimony.
Must watch documentary!
In 1947 the war office became the defence department and ushered in the era of the boogy man and the defence against that boogy man.
Trillions handed to private companies to provide defence and the only way to judge its worth is that you’ve not been attacked and when you are attacked the solution to those attacks, more money for defence.
A nations people gets poorer, sicker and more divided every year yet defence spending is never lowered.
The fog of war. The fog of life. Is it the same?
In this age of pandemic variants the fog of life gets deeper....
much love! =)
Deeply profound
greetings , i searched for this i remember watching it way back in the day. welp its 2021 and the globalists are making their move.
"We were behaving like war criminals" he said... OMG... after watching Oliver Stone's 10-part series about the Hidden History....., that is what drew me to these clips on McNamara. Such horror we have not been told about War Machines and $$$ Machine

La guerra en cualquier proporción es maldita.es la esencia humana para asustar así somos, fuimos y seremos.soy humano y cargo tristeza del genio humano de destruir, sosyugar y volver polvo nuestra propia existencia.
I found this film because of curiosity on why WB President was the architect of the brutal wars. His lesson learnt on you can’t change human nature is so true🙏
Robert S. McNamara was an interesting man, no doubt about it.
@carlorocky why do you own multiple copies?? It's not like the documentary is different with each copy! :p
I agree though. Excellent documentary!
Fig of War
meh....McNamara was an old fool...
he lost his wars from disconnection from reality
Whats the music piece that starts at 1:06? thanks
It is the melody from the song "Simple Gifts", but an orchestral composition of it.

DON`T TREAD ON ME! Open your eyes America and be a 3%er!
GOD BLESS AMERICA
Wars have made America great. Tragic, certainly, but necessary. We must never forget that the world is essentially evil and battle necessary.
They wouldn’t surrender. They had to get the second one before they got it through their heads.
All hand wringing irrelevant after that. Next.
