What an incredible homage. I swear I think these guys are absolutely hands-down my favorite new band. Just an amazing use of a bluegrass sound. All five are truly great players…… Or should I say pickers
I absolutely love these guys and tonight is the first time I’ve ever heard of them. They are performing near me and I saw their name and looked them up and I just couldn’t be more pleased. I’ve always been a bluegrass fan but never heard any of them do rock covers like this and they are astounding. Hooray hooray for Green sky blue grass.🎉🎉🎉🎉
My nickname I've it had forever is Jessica China cat and Jessa China and Jessica China. this is phenomenal it really it just makes my heart sing thank you. I play a 12-string you guys just totally blasted it into the stratosphere thank you
What a perfect take on every level! The crazy dobro at the end of China Cat leading into the transition to Rider is exquisite. Great job all the way around, fellas!
I’ve played with plenty of rock bands that cover I Know You Rider but most of them seem afraid of China Cat. I’m a keyboard player and figured out the Bob Weir part on piano in case I get to play it. I tried learning it on acoustic guitar and, aside from it being at the edge of my technique, I don’t have a cutaway on my Hummingbird and you really need one. This is so good I don’t miss the fiddle.
+Sean Sklenar: Yes of course, why wouldn't he? He started out as a Blue Grass Banjo player in the late 50's & this is a great Blue Grass Version of this song!!!
Why am I not surprised to hear a China Rider from them? See they're coming to town soon, know nothing about them, so figured I'd check them out. Guess I'll be getting a ticket. Not necessarily because of this, but it does show that there's a special place they come from.
Hunter did not write it. Bands don't pay royalties when they play another's song either. Grateful Dead Family Discography: I Know You Rider. The first occurrence of this song is in the book American Ballads & Folk Songs by John A Lomax & Alan Lomax which was published in 1934.

I'm sure Jerry is looking down and smiling. He was a banjo picker long before the Dead.
"FUCK YEAH! Sometimes there's just no better words and this is one of those times!"
Amen.

I wonder if Robert Hunter get's paid when they play his song?
greensky pays the proper royalties. i promise you that.
Even if he didn't, I'm sure he'd be smiling hearing this.
Yes - Much thanks to Robert a master poet - lyricist.
Hunter did not write it. Bands don't pay royalties when they play another's song either.
