My granddaughter is asking to learn to sew. I am so excited and ordered her a small machine for her lessons. When we started thinking of a project and Melanie was right here with a great first sewing project. Love you always Melanie, Thank you for being such a gift to so many. It is such a blessing the example you have put here for so many❤💜💞💙💘
To the Ham Family: I will be making 36 of these crayon tote bags for my Christmas Boxes this year in honor of Melanie and her love of creating beauty in this world! Welcome Home Melanie!
Miss you so much! I know you are looking over all us new crafters! You taught me how to make my first quilt. And i am so grateful to still have access to your videos. ❤
Wow, Wow! You have done it again dearest Melanie, I absolutely love how you simplify your instructions giving me all the confidence to go ahead and make this bag for my grandson. I know you are smiling down at me from heaven, as once again you have taught me to do yet another sewing project. I pray for your beautiful children and all your family that they have found some peace and conformity to be here without you, knowing that you will be soon reunited in the Kingdom of Christ 🙏❤️😊
I made this today! Well, I just finished it at 12:53 am! 😬 It doesn’t take long at all if you’re fabric is cut out ahead of time! I LOVE how simple it is and how great it turned out. Not bad for $6.59 to make! 🤗 Thanks again!
I am SO excited I found you. My hubby bought me a sewing machine a few years ago, it has sat and collected dust. I attempted store bought patterns, no luck. I am more of a "show me" learner. I was trying Pinterest but becoming discouraged because I was reading and rereading, getting nowhere. I cannot wait to apply your videos and get sewing! Thank you.
Watching you from a very dull, grey Uk ☔️ I love your style of teaching, so straight forward! Just making these as presents for my ever growing great nieces and nephews. Thank you 😊
I absolutely love this project! As always, your instructions are clear and easy to follow. Thank you again for sharing with all of us. I cannot wait to make these for my grand-daughters for Christmas!
I’m done, just made another one for my g’daughter, so now both siblings have their own. So easy and so cute. Adorable. I did square off the corner to 3” so that it stands up by itself. I put pockets on both sides inside the lining as well, for added convenience, Kleenex extra pens, treats, etc. Thank you, you explained it to a T.
Just made one for a 3 yr old boy (using race car 🏎 material). He was in a lawn mower accident and has been in & out of the hospital. Thought this would be nice when he’s waiting to be seen for his follow up appointments. Thank you:) and as always your tutorials are wonderful
Love you tutorials! You make them easy for others to follow along. I can only imagine how beautifully your home is decorated with all of your creative crafts and ideas.
That’s an awesome idea I already bought a Color Book and a Large Box of Crayons 🖍 & Story Kids Books 📚 for my 3 great-nephews & 3 great-nieces for Christmas 🎄 and also Slime, a container of Play-Doh and I keep buying stuff to add to it I also bought a plastic carrying little basket with handles for each kid . So I’m going to make this tote for the Color Book and Crayon 🖍 and then everything else I’ll put in the other basket. I know they will love it 😍 their ages are 11, 6, 5, 5, 4, 3. 3 boys and 3 girls and now 4 girls my newest great-niece is only 2 weeks old so she’s getting cute little girl clothes 🎀 . Thank you for sharing this awesome tote and giving me a great idea .
When I was a little kiddo, I would have LOVED this, and I probably would have begged for my mom or aunty or nana to make me one. All my crayons, art projects and coloring books would be in MY OWN bag, where my brothers wouldn't be able to wreck my stuff! Where was this when they melted all my crayons on the radiator? Nice project!
I made one but must not have kept the seams narrow enough because it wouldn't fit a traditional drawing pad or coloring book but I found a smaller sticker book that fit and the crayons look so cute on the front. Next time I will make it just a tad wider. It went together quickly and your instructions were great
Loved it, thank you. I’m pretty sure I made this one a few years ago and was looking to make one for my g’son’s little sister. However, I noticed that I squared off my corners so I may have decided to do that on my own, Anyhow, very cute, thank you. I love it.
Hi Melanie! This is awesome! I will make this for my daughter. At first, I thought it looked pretty tough... But your tutorial is so thorough, and you make it look doable for me to make. Thank you so much Love from Canada
Such a cute idea and your tutorial was so easy to follow !! I was thinking....not only are these great little kid gifts to make, but with the new interest in adult coloring books, it would be nice to make them with coloring pencils for adults. Probably already been thought of I am sure, but I love this idea for kids..great little party favor to give out.. add a few treats, a coloring book etc . I plan on making a few so I'll send you a picture of one of my finished projects. Thanks again.
I made the mistake of showing my nieces and telling them it was for another set of nieces to see if they liked them or not.... Oh they loved them and then went on for 5 min's or so saying I want one like this with this on it in this color... blah blah blah..... Wow I was looking for "I want one!" It's really hard when they smarty pants. LOL
Love you videos! I am going to make some of these for the Grandkids they are going to Disney and I think this would be perfect for the airplane ride! I am thinking of adding another pocket to the other side for additional items. Great idea and I love it!
+Ashley Redmond yep! We had 2 little girl birthday parties this past weekend and they got these as presents filled with new crayons and sticker books of course ;) Now my daughter is begging me for one and already picked out her fabric ;)
I'm making one for a relative (age 7) that just got diagnosed with lymphoma. He'll need something with him while in the hospital to keep him busy and mind off everything going on. I'm also thinking that these will make great Christmas gifts for a few cousins in the family. There are so many cute novelty fabrics in so many different cartoons themes... going to buy some superhero fabric this week to make my first one!
+Sue, Awe.. What a wonderful idea to bless your family member with something during a rough time! Prayers and hope that your project brings them smiles!
i love you! Your tutorial are beautiful and so easy!! every time i sew it, I fell that i can do everything! thank you and sorry my english but I'm italian
Hello Melanie. I love this project. I'm a beginner, and this is totally one of daughter's christmas gifts. Quick question: where did you fine the horse fabric? God bless your talent. Thanks in advance for your reply.
Still loving Melanie's tutorials. Wondering if it would be better to put the crayon pocket on the inside and put a little like flap over it to keep them in place. I think these would be great to make for the kids to carry to church Like a "Busy Bag" type thing...something to keep them occupied during services... they get on mom's phone and playing games and they get excited and loud lol
First time I have watched one of your videos and I absolutely love this crayon bag, but I am at a loss for what you call the "description box" which contains the measurements for the bag. I'm kind of new to these You Tube videos, so maybe it's right there in front of me, but I just don't see it. Where do I look for this box, as I really want to make the bag? Thanks for such an easy-to-follow video. Really enjoyed it.
Did you ever find the description box? If you look at the title under the video, there is an "arrow down" to the right, if you click on this, it will drop down into the description box.
Great tutorial thanks for sharing. Do you think you could make a crayon and notebook holder tutorial with handles and a bottom closure 😊 I’ve been looking for one but here on RUclips but haven’t seen one. Thanks again!
I just recently bought a pretty cheap sewing machine and fell in love and even started my own etsy shop! so, I'm looking for new items to make as well so I've been looking around and I just wanted to know the price of yours? I LOVE it! also what does a walking foot do, exactly?
Hi Melanie. First, I'd like to tell you that I really like your channel and I also want to compliment you on your creative skills, you are very talented! I have a request which I really hope that you can forfill; can you make a tutorial both for a round single and for a round double crochet rug? That would really mean a lot to me, because I really like to be able to make it so it's done when my boyfriend returns home from deployment - he's in the Royal Danish Army. If you were to make the totorials, I could make the rug when our little girl is sleeping. Thank you for sharing your great and "easy-to-understand" tutorials. The kindest regards from Sofie from Denmark.
Hi, Melanie! Thank you for the wonderful videos!! I will make this for sure, but I don't have a walking foot. Do you think it's going to be a problem? xoxox
Love this project! Making these for my nieces and nephews for Christmas! They always love something I have personally made for them. How much would you charge for a bag like this if you were to sell them to customers or on Etsy?
+Delores Garza If I were to put these in my etsy shop, I would charge between $30-$45 depending on the fabric I used. I filmed while I made these so I'm not exactly how long it would take me to make one... you generally want to include your expenses and time, not only time to make it but time to photograph and write the listing etc.
Still using Melanie’s videos in 2024!! She will always be the best! ❤
Still miss you so much. Glad I can still access her videos

+Sofie Ydesen Hi Sofie! A rug is on my list, but probably not until much later this year or early next ;) Hang in there till he's home!
Sooooo cute! Love your projects. :)
Awesome idea! Where did you get your walking foot? Thanks! 😊
brilliant will make a few for my daughter and her friends
also I thought about doing for my nieces as a Christmas gift! pretty.
+Cristina Adolfo yes! These make great Christmas and birthday gifts ;)
i followed step by step and love it
I was thinking when you were sewing the lines on the inside of the handles to use decorative thread and a design stitch, or use trim. Just a thought.
Love this! TFS! Going to make some!
Hi, Melanie! Thank you for the wonderful videos!! I will make this for sure, but I don't have a walking foot. Do you think it's going to be a problem? xoxox
+Noriko Inaba no you should be ok, lengthen your stitch length to about a 3 when you are sewing through all the layers and that will help some ;)
I love my fabric so much, I'd like to put the pocket for the crayons on the inside--at the top. Think that would work?
Love this project! Making these for my nieces and nephews for Christmas! They always love something I have personally made for them. How much would you charge for a bag like this if you were to sell them to customers or on Etsy?
