I love your version of this song. I find the lyrics so enticing, intriguing, frightening. When I don't understand something in my life, I often listen to this song as it strangely reels me in. I feel the ghost of Vorticism in the music and lyrics.
This performance is so intimate and restrained... It's really mesmerising... Your vocals starting at 2:00 are hauntingly beautiful *_________0 What a wonderful cover, man!!!!
This is absolutely perfect. However have you ever considered doing a cover of this song from the 2006 performances? I imagine this would be very difficult but to capture it in a studio environment when so many fans expected that version would be incredible
this was one of the greatest series of youtube, at least from a music/ cover perspective. the performances and editings are all great, as an spectator you can feel the love for this band as i’m shure we all have. hope you achieve everything you propose yourself
Your cover and the footage of it is making me realize how at its core its not a very outlandish lineup for a live performance.. A piano, a synth(which could be replaced with a bass imo), a guitar, drums.. Only out there instrument is a drum machine. Its a song a lot of rock bands would be equipped to play, yet it feels like a massive, powerful piece of almost ambient music? Idk how much sense that makes. Fantastic cover!
Mike Carpenter makes a lot of sense! Which i think is why for me it’s not a huge leap from the more “rock band” 2006 Bonnaroo and these versions, though others would disagree.
Hey Joe! I'm trying to make a cover of this song myself and I'm having a rough time trying to replicate what Ed plays on the last part of the song (Voice of God bit). I'm using Logic Pro X and I do have a Wah pedal but don't know what other effects to use. If you could help me on this I'd be very grateful! Cheers.
nícolas roque hey Nicolas! So the key there is a heavy smattering of delays, preferably one of those being an analogue style one (like the Memory Man), with the times set to clash with each other so you get a Reverby repeat soup. Then you just pedal the main root chord (C#m) with the wah set to heel back (highs filtered out). As you get the wall of sound going, gradually sweep the wah to toe down to let in the highs and more volume. But that’s mostly it! You can use a little drive or compression too to thicken it up.
nícolas roque no problem! He does do something very similar with a volume pedal and the whammy set to octave harmony on Nude (for the strings part in verse 2)!
Joe Edelmann Hey, here’s the final result soundcloud.com/user-230900379/videotape-radiohead-cover If you do listen to it, let me know what you think! My very first Radiohead cover
nicolas roque Cory was using the TC Electronic Flashback here (with a Memory Man style toneprint)! But i have since procured a Deluxe Memory Man and it is well worth the hype, a really luscious modulated analog sound.
@@JoeEdelmann3 it sounds really good. that's one of the most beautiful guitar effects i've ever listened too, along with the one used in Nude to simulate the orchestra sound
Great Cover, but if I'm not mistaken, "Videotape" has a Syncopated beat. It goes 1+2+3+4+ with the piano coming in at the + before 2. I could be mistaken, however.
Kyle Sullivan yep, it is syncopated! The kick/floor Tom drum machine you’re hearing is also on that syncopated upbeat (the “and”/+ after 2 and 4) along with the piano. The hi hats of the drum machine move between up and down beats, and the rimshots typically hit the down beats of 2 and 4. Now, of course you can also try to hear it inverted, which is trippy and hard to do once you’re used to the illusion!
Shoot Top we’re using the TC Electronic flashback delay, set to a modulated setting (similar to an EHX Memory Man) and then adding some more MM style delay with the Soundtoys Echoboy plugin! The swells at the end use a Wah pedal as a filter effect.
Hello again Joe, I find myself keep coming to this cover and I got a new question. How did you record the audio from Ipad to your interface? Or did you record it on its own then transferred it to your Daw? I'm kinda new to these so sorry if the question is really basic :D
Emre Akdeniz no worries! It’s a good question. I used an 1/8” TRS cable from the iPad’s headphone jack, into an ART A/V DI Box connected to my Mackie interface. So yes, it was recorded live with the rest of the instruments!
Amazing
this might be sacrilege but I genuinely think this cover is better than the studio recording
you should cover the bonaroo 2006 version!!
This is my all time favorite Radiohead song.
the mechanical-sounding beats in this song always make me picture the reels and tape guides of a VHS video moving as the tape is played
that’s a cool interpretation!
Outstanding
you guys even got the syncopation
Really beautiful
2:30-3:25 i like passed out life is so hard rn
So detailed. Amazing
This is amazing! You should do the bonnaroo's version cover...
THIS IS THE ONLY PLACE TO SEE A GOD IN ACTION
Love this song. Makes me a little sad. Voice is perfect!
まさかのアプローチやね。
最初大丈夫かな?と思ったけど仕上がりはさすがです。
好きな歌です。人間の死を的確に表現してるのかな?と思います。

you touched my heart, congratulations
It's perfect. Couldn't be made better
I like how you held the high hat back from the beginning... it’s really hard to get the piano off the downbeat right off the bat !!
oh yess!!!! I've been waiting for this for a long time

後ろのメモなにかいてあるんだろ?It was a wonderful performance!
That sounded beautiful
This goes in man awesome job
fantásticooooooooooooo!!!
Nailed it yet again. Great work guys. Never stop.
Beautiful song. Your executive producer is 💥🔥
Just FYI, executive producers actually have nothing to do with production, they are purely the money front.
Perfeito. Continuem com esse trabalho, é realmente excelente, tanto instrumental quanto vocal.
Now do the 2006 version!
andriolo 😆 ok!
@@JoeEdelmann3 sooooo? When is it coming 😂
@@elijahtheshirriff7331 haha too much else on the list for right now! But hope to come back to it

This song would be nowhere near as good without the syncopated beat
Radiohead copied you guys perfectly. Congratulations to them.
