- When I visited the UK earlier this year, I decided to visit the most popular Chinese takeaway in my hometown of Wolverhampton, and order a load of dishes from the menu. And then?
Take those dishes home and sit down for a gigantic British-style Chinese banquet with my mom and dad. But is the food authentically Chinese? Watch and find out.

This is why i like Stu. He’s not pandering to the chinese audience by calling fake chinese food terrible. (I grew up in China and American Chinese food is actually pretty good).
Some of the dishes are terrible... Like 'sweet and sour' but some are absolutely delicious. I should also add, if you like something, doesn't matter where it's from! Thanks for watching.
@@TravelinChinaI mean it really depends on the places you eat from along with the menus and the recipes. They vary from place to place.
The chef is from HK so the dishes are southern tastes which are sweeter, not spicy.
You are a good son. You bought food and clothes for your parents. You are making them happy.

actually Stu, you can find a version of lemon chicken in Hong Kong we call 西檸雞 (western lemon chicken). it should be quite similar except maybe the sauce will taste a bit different. it's basically battered chicken pieces deep fried with a sugary lemon juice+peels sauce thickened with a lot of corn starch.

My friend in Canada also says they keep their heating on 24hr. Can you imagine doing that in the UK? Absolute nuts. Crazy how people are struggling in the UK because of stupid decisions by stupid politicians.

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter if the food is authentic or not. What's important is whether you like the food.

Hey Stu, in China there did have a dish called “lemon duck” or “柠檬鸭” in Guangxi Province, I tried it ever in Nanning and Yulin, but it is quite different from what you have shown in the video. You can try it if you visit there some day in the future,

on a similar ingredients note, there’s a soup from the Chaozhou/Shantou area called Salted Lemon Duck Soup 咸柠檬鸭汤 that’s also really good. i love sour foods~
I'm from Guilin in Guangxi province and my mom used to make lemon duck when I was a kid and I loved the dish! My grandma would make the marinated lemon herself and use it for the dish.
I actually miss some of those "British Chinese takeaways"

lemon chicken is Cantonese food, can't findin the North. most overseas Chinese food either Cantonese or Sichuanese

honestly, I don't think the westernized "chinese food" is destined to be unpalatable, they are just different. surely they are not authentic, but a good chef with decent ingredient, can make them just tasty as well. I once went to a chinese buffet somewhere outside paris, the food there stunned me, with only 5-8 euros, (i think, can't remember exactly), it was a just a feast, especially for someone who had been eating duck confit for weeks.....
The crispy wontons look so good as does the lemon chicken. The closest I've had to that is battered fish with lemon sauce drizzled on it which is delicious~
It's very different to fish with lemon juice... Sweeter, stickier, plus it's chicken so that's quite different. If you ever see it on a menu anywhere, definitely give it a try Baatar!

If you want some really good authentic chinese food there are some really good ones in birmingham, my fav is called family and another called chilli kitchen. Soooo noice 😊
The restaurants in Brum are basically authentic Chinese restaurants.

Lemon chicken is commonly served in a cha chaan teng at dinner time, and chips at lunchtime. That chicken and mushroom dish, my family has made that at home, and we are Chinese. It's the seasoning that counts as a Chinese dish I suppose.

國外的中餐快餐確實 都是爲了配合本地人的口味改的菜 所以跟國内吃的中餐不一樣 就連跟唐人街專門做華人生意的中餐都不一樣。
下次去唐人街的中餐看看 有華人堂吃的店買中餐。

My favorite western Chinese food are walnut prawns and crab rangoon. Lemon chicken is good and Mongolian beef is not bad. Hot and sour soup and egg drop soup are good too.

The lemon chicken dish there is from Hong Kong, Did you remember her husband from Hong Kong?
I grew up in Bushbury, not far from Good All. Their food was a treat when we got a takeaway. I remember their "Chinese chips", 30 years later and I've still to taste chips as good. Unfortunately, as a 10 year old back in the day, I didn't eat much from the menu.
Next time I'm in Wolves, I'll definitely be visiting.
You're right. The chips from that place are absolutely superb. I remember the first time trying their 'Chinese Chips', it was an absolute revelation.
