- The ABC primetime programming promo reel for the fall of 1982. A complete rundown of the fall season's original programming from returning favorites like Dynasty", "Hart to Hart", "TJ Hooker", "Laverne & Shirley", "Happy Days". The Love Boat", and "Fantasy Island" (just to name a few) to a slew of debuting shows most of which were quickly cancelled. Does anyone even remember "The Quest" or "Star of the Family" starring Brian Dennehy and Michael "American Ninja" Dudikoff?
A long reel so I timestamped the clips to make it easier to navigate.

I miss 1982 😪
For Better or For Worse was re-titled It Takes Two. And their teenage kids were played by Helen Hunt and Anthony Edwards.
I just love the voice over 🥰
It's fascinating how many of those announced TV movies didn't get made. I definitely would have watched Jane Seymour as Mata Hari.
The Rambo season with both Brian Dennehy and Richard Crenna headlining sitcoms!
I've seen all 13 episodes of Amanda's by the Sea with Bea Arthur, which premiered on February 10th that season.
That same season over on NBC, Cheers, Family Ties, St. Elsewhere, Remington Steele, and Silver Spoons debuted. The A-Team also premiered mid-season. Also new to the network was Late Night with David Letterman, which premiered the season before. All of those shows were critical to the major success that NBC would achieve a few seasons later.
NBC began its slow rise out of the ratings cellar while ABC began its slow decline to the ratings cellar.
Back then most sitcoms had a fresh approach to the American cultural landscape I was particularly fond of the 1983 sitcom "Square Pegs" and the U.F.O. drama "Project U.F.O. on NBC which aired between 1977 to 1980
The Day After would debut in November 1983 and was cut back to three hours instead of four. Still ended up being one of the most talked about Made-for-TV movies in years and influenced the decision making of Reagan and later Gorbachev, who both saw the film. It may have helped end the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union.
Amazingly enough, not all of the new shows in this reel had any footage....such as "The New Odd Couple" which used the original Odd Couple movie and TV series, and footage from Barney Miller to represent it. In addition, "The Day After" is announced as set to air for the 1982-83 TV season as a four hour event. It wouldn't air until November 1983, and even then as a two and a half hour movie.
James Stanley Barr The Demond Wilson footage came from another short lived show "Baby, I'm Back"
When they actually filmed the New Odd Couple (stupidly using scripts from the original) wasn't he.... fat?
"It Takes Two", a plot successfully used in "The Cosby Show".
The 1982-83 season was dominated by CBS, whose mash finale remains the most talked about series finale of all time...i was being born in december 26th of that year so i have no memories but my dad and mom remember watching tv. ABC had the rights to the oscars and that did good ratings, also Winds of War was a hit.
Squat Pegs may still be available on DVD!
Squat Pegs?? lol
This was from that year's fall preview.
And?
When people watched “television.”
All these years were in 1982.
Did Jane Seymour do a TV movie of Mata Hari? It's not listed on her IMDB profile.
A lot of these movies go through what's known as "Development Hell". Some movies get made quickly, Some take Years to get made, some get shelved altogether. That movie about the "Death of a Town Bully" was slated for 1982, but it didn't wrap & air until 1988. "Mata Hari" either never happened, or it was made under a different name with different people entirely.
That's Showbiz.
joanie loves chachi gary marshall's failed attempt at a spinoff that show lasted about 7 shows I think erin and scott were back on happy days by midseason
They broke up in real life by then too
Yes, he tried to pull off a Norman Lear....
rock odyssey
@Foywonder
I would like to know if you take requests.
@@Foywonder That's fine.
@@Foywonder Hi I would like to know if you could upload the following:
1. ABC Saturday Morning Previews from 1976 and 1977
2. ABC All-Star Spectacular T.V. Special( 1 hr.), not promo from 1985
Can you please keep an eye out for these two that I am requesting and in contact with me via You Tube? Thanks.
Back then made-for-TV movies and mini-series were national events. They were obviously budgeted lower than actual movies and were shot much more quickly resulting in great actors giving mediocre performances and static camerawork that was only suitable for the little TV screen.
Watching the wrong ones, dumb ass.
