Thank you for your video - FWIW - For those considering purchasing this unit - I've purchased one of these Seicane Dashcam/Apple Carplay units, and have installed it in my car. I would say, I have very mixed feelings. After the initial few days of playing with the unit, powering it from the cigarette lighter power, I opted to hardwire it using the provided 3A power adapter. Pretty straight forward install, and I KNOW I've installed it correctly. So here is my feedback: 1. The units feels solid to touch and the display has a good appearance and feel. I like the IDEA of this product, but it has several flaws! 1. even if you mount it sold, it still shakes while you're driving. I fixed this shaking by building a simple block on my 3D printer and stuffing it between the display and the mount from the back (so you don't see it from the front). 2. Audio pass through quality sucks! I've connected my iPhone wirelessly to the Seicane unit, and from there, there is a cable going from Seicane to my car stereo through the Aux input. Comparing the pass through quality to simple direct bluetooth connectivity to my car stereo, I would say Seicane quality is awful. I am willing to tolerate 1 and 2, but then there is 3. Every time I turn off my car, and turn it back on again, I have to do a hard power down on the Seicane unit (holding the power button at the top of the unit for a few seconds), then power up the unit!!! To me, this is the deal breaker! This brings me to 4. AWFUL tech support!!! I've reached out to Seicane, and they have responded quickly (within 24 hours), BUT the quality of support is really really really BAD! After a few emails going back and forth, they came back with requiring me to do a firmware upgrade. I have no problem with this, BUT the documentation they have provided and the video makes you laugh and cry at the same time! First of all, everything is in Chinese (at least all the important stuff). They have also provided an .mp4 video to download, which is supposed to help! The video is absolute utter rubbish! I am really disappointed with Seicane!
I've never had to do a hard reset, it works every time. Audio quality on mine is fine. Tech support for me has been good, my reverse camera cable failed, I sent a photo of the issue and they sent me another cable.

LAPSE RECORD looks like it records timelapses, 5 frames per second, 1 frame per second etc. Good feature for vloggers or if you make videos from your car, you can do nice timelapse videos while driving, pretty cool feature :)) Ok he later explained it is also for security :D
Yes it's for when the car is parked. It doesn't do 5 fps while driving

It was only like that for testing. They'll all be tucked away when I can be bothered to do it.
It's for time-lapse, so 1, 2, or 5 frames per second.
Have you tried Screencast to mirror phone? If so, any instructions?
I bought a similar £80 gizmo, and once i stopped Android Auto looking for a new car every time, ita still really slow starting up and connecting to the device, about 3-4mins each time. Is this common?
lapse record is a timelapse. how many frames per second in the timelapse. guessing you worked that out already

I've tried and it drops the connection and freezes. It needs 5G which I don't have so I've not tried it any further.

To bad you did not show a phone call. I have terrible issues with this device. When making a phone call via BT the other party cant hear me. I have to switch the source on this device to PHONE or SPEAKER (via the phone) so they can hear me. But the problem than is that the conversation no longer comes over the car audio...

How do calls work in terms of the microphone? What microphone does it use when using android auto?
There's a mic built into the screen so it will do calls and voice activation if you want to send or reply to a text. My phone is paired to both the screen and the car radio, the call comes up on the screen and I answer it with the radio. If the radio is not on aux or tuned in using the fm transmitter (depending on how you set it up) then there will be no sound during a call so that's why my phone is still paired to the car radio as well as the screen. Hope that makes sense. You could set the screen up to have the sound come out of the screen but the quality isn't good as it's only a small speaker.

Yes, the setting is on the home screen, I'm sure I showed it.
Why does the full screen looks stretched? I think there is another setting that needs to be done on the phone side or so. Too bad it doesn't have BT out but for the price I guess. How is the audio quality? Is it stereo? I heard about this product a couple of months ago but held off on it even though it's only $100.
I don't know why it's stretched, I don't use full screen anyway. Audio quality is the same as an FM radio station and yes it's stereo. Don't be put off by the price, it's a lot of kit for the money and well worth it. Sure, there could be improvements but what do you want for only £80?
Yeah it's awful, I have a roadtop version and it doesn't happen, you can enter developer mode on Android auto on your phone and change the resolution but for some reason it doesn't work with this screen. TBH it's worth spending a bit more on something else unless we get an update

You can format the card in the settings menu.
If you don’t install the red wire for the backup camera, can you still use the camera manually from the touchscreen whilst in reverse?
Yes but you'll have to manually select the rear camera and you wont have the guide lines.
It's all good till you put android auto in full screen then it's all stretched and horrible looking, this doesn't happen with carplay tho, don't know about any updates or how you would do them with no developer mode.

No it's a linux operating system. It'll only do what android auto does so basically maps, music and phone. Wireless internet allows you to mirror your phone screen to the unit to play videos via your phone
But you can use mirror cast if you really want that feature

Is this from the USA and is there any import duty? Looks brilliant when compared to Carpuride as an alternative.
The company is in China. I didn't have to pay import duty bacause it was under £150. I don't know what the import rules are in the US.

It's not bluetooth to the radio. It uses the AUX or FM to transmit sound to the car radio

Yes, records all the time the power is on regardless of what apps are being used
Thanks for the video sir. I have noticed that on settings i found total 18 icons on the time 5:37 but when i see your same settings i found only 17 icons on time 12:32. Could you please let me know your input. I mean from on time 12.32, "setting Guidline, Back camera mirror, Back camera flip" are missing when seen on your video time of 5.37 instead found 2 additional icons as "Reset Factory and Version" icons. Can you please check here and correct me if I am wrong sir
Back camera settings only appear when the rear camera is plugged in.

How long is the cable for the rear backup camera. I can't find they the info anywhere on Seicanes site andthey won't answer the question other to say its long enough. Can it be extended if too short?
I didn't measure it but it is plenty long enough for the avarage size car. I had loads left over that I had to ravel up and tie behind the dash. You could extend it but it wouldn't be easy. What car have you got?
@@pistonbroke i have a Roadtrek class B RV. its 21 feet from nose to trail. If the cables have 2.5mm jacks it could be extended

Wish I knew about this a month ago, went for a slightly hire spec car to have this all neatly built in, i no other extra features, £1000 more. Car manufacturers take the piss really, when thing like this for £80.
But it should work better integrated in car though... then again not 1000 quid better :D and it won't be better for long.
I think good idea might be to buy a unit designed specifically for your car model and which takes your car inputs and pay somebody to install it, if you yourself do not want to muck about with it, they make those in China too, probably will be lot less than 1000 quid at the end, not even 400 maybe, but then the question of quality is really important too

No which is a shame, you have to do it manually.
Android Auto has day and night setting or automatic I just leave in night setting

You need to change the output in the settings. Press FM then at the bottom will be a selection. Aux, spk, fm. Select aux and it should work. Also make sure that you've selected aux on the car radio

There's a new firmware update for this device which gives REAL widescreen resolution when you put it in fullscreen mode. The image is no longer stretched.

@@fastie-zn1ou DOwnload those files and read the instructions carefully. IMPORTANT NOTE. You install the firmware directly onto the micro sd card, not a USB stick. Once you install it and the unit finishes loading the green bar, then it turns off. MAKE SURE you turn it back on with the MICRO SD card inserted, and then go to settings (on the unit itself) to format the SD card to prepare for recording. do not take it out and format the SD card on your computer. It DOES NOT WORK like that for some reason. (if you do it like that, you end up in a installation loop)

7 months late but yes, I have a similar unit and it works with a power bank. Usb-A to C only though. C to C doesn’t work

I bought one of these after watching this video, I decided not to install it as the audio quality is awful. People please don't waste your money.

It's not the best test of dashcam if it is not glued solidly to the surface, there are small bumps that impact the video quality a lot even if it was tucked in place like that

Don't buy this product. I received a damaged unit. When asking for help from customer service, the customer service department solution for selling me a deffective product is to refund me $40 dollars out of the $127 purchase price and keep the broken system.
Again don't buy this.
Customer service has been brilliant for me. My rear camera cable broke and they sent me another cable. No problems.
@@pistonbroke well I've been going back and forth with Jasmine @Seicane for well over a month. In short my android unit blew a fuse in the charge port, and after sending multiple videos, Jasmine said to keep the broken unit and they will refund me $40 of the $127 i spent.
I'll see if I can attache the email conversation I had with them.
Got one will never buy it if i get to try it before buying, piece of junk really, use it for sat nav only now, sound quality is crap too.
There's some good android auto screens just have to pay a bit more and do your homework

@@skyliner4610 if you watch some of my other videos on this you'll see that I did commit to fitting it, including modifying the centre cubby box so it fits nicely, fitting the reverse camera and hiding all the wires. Go look and then take back all the shit you've just spouted out.

Maybe the battery is flat. Connect it to power, turn it on and it'll charge the internal battery
