- Today we are planting onions for the first thing this year.
Hi, we are Matt & Sara. Along with our 4 kids, our dog, our cat, 4 pigs, a lot of chickens and even more bees we have been developing our homesteading lifestyle. After over a decade on our property we are finally debt free and using our new FREEDOM to do what we have always wanted to do (be more self reliant)!

Good morning and nice to see you both 💞
Good morning Mary 😊
So glad to see you again you can make tinctures and oils from some of the herbs. Nasturtium and bachelor button are edible flowers as well as well as balloon flowers.
Well that sounds amazing and I can’t wait to start planting them 😃
So excited to see a (planting) video from you! I was ready to go do dishes but had logged onto RUclips and saw your video and had to watch that first! I hope you are all doing well. I'm looking forward to the next video! 💜
Hi Jenny😃. We are doing well and have been praying 🙏 for you still.
Awesome assortment of medicinal herbs!! I did lives on many of those. Mullein is excellent for respiratory tea. Calendula is great for bee stings too.
I will definitely have to go back and look. 😊
I was planning on starting my onions this week also. I love Livingston seeds. I purchase them at Runnings.
That’s awesome 😃
I saw this video late, but, the medicinal herbs I 100% recommend together are-fresh picked chamomile flowers (10-20), 3-5 fresh picked leaves of
cat nip and some thyme. Put together in tea bag for 1 cup -
use as nighttime tea with honey if you want. Melts stress away..😊
Thanks 😊 I will definitely give that a try.
Thanks for the video, my first year trying to grow onions from seed and I've already learned that I planted them too deep following the seed packs so thanks for the tips. If I get any more seed I'll sow them the way you do. I know fever few can be used to help with migraines, Lee over at Kodiak Farm Bees-Lee makes a tincture I believe using the plant.
Thanks for the tip. I will have to talk to Lee
Come on sara you are surprised that Matt would come back home with Girls scouts cookies 🍪 and it is so good to see Sara and yeah even Matt too
😄 I am glad you are still around Mr. Willie 😁. I had to get some cookies 🍪😃
Good to see you again! I’ve missed you! I’ve cut holes in the tops of bags a scooped. It works well. I got my dirt today so I’m going to be planting onions. Maybe celery, too. I love your garden videos.
Thanks 😊 well we are going to try and put out one video a week 😃
@@mattsara2802 I hope you do. I bet the kids are really growing.
Oh yes they are 😃
@@mattsara2802 what grades are they in? Are you doing any subbing?
We both do lots of volunteering and run around with all the sports
Great to see you Sara, I’ve been watching Matt on his other channel. Happy to see you all doing so well.
Thanks! 👋
So good to see you! Do you normally start end of Feb of is this early because of our crazy warm winter? I’m also in MN just northeast of St Paul.
😃. For onions yes we do. This isn’t the first time weather like this fooled people but not us we stick to our rules.
Could you please share the link for the MN site whereas the planting calendar can be printed off? I can't find it. It is an excellent, extensive, and thorough site!!
This should be it 😃. extension.umn.edu/find-plants/vegetables#seeding-and-transplanting-2396061
Good morning my amazing friends, I hope you all have a wonderful day
You too! 👋
60 days on onions huh... explains why our onions never took 😆
😆
Question about temps. We live near you and are mid-build on a greenhouse. Have you kept track of winter temps at all?
Yes it s about 15 to 20 degrees warmer than outside.
I went to the UofM extension website and I can only find a schedule that scrolls up and down inside a window. I couldn’t find anything to print. What link did you use?
I think this is what you need. extension.umn.edu/find-plants/vegetables#seeding-and-transplanting-2396061
We are getting ready to plant about 500 onions, I thought that was a lot and y’all just planted around 1600 😂😂
😂 you can never have enough plus some always die 😄
Matt you donate the money but leave the cookies, Girl scout cookies are dangerous.
😂🤣😂🤣 I should have. Once the kids heard I bought them they were gone in a blink of an eye.
Only us guys know the true horror of extreme pressure from a girl scout when it's cookie selling time. They can smell our fear and latch onto us like dogs to a ribeye steak!
🤣😂😃😂😃😂🤣😂 spot on.
