Good topic mate. Here's my 2 cents. Too much player contact can make this game feel like any other FPS game. Too little contact is where we're at now. We're looking for a golden number that works. The map has increased in size roughly about 133% comparing the mod to SA. Yet the player count has stayed the same. The mod player density felt absolutely perfect. The player density has gone down significantly in SA.
Adding on top of that that the cars don't work properly and never get used. For one, cars create a sense of stuff happening in the world since they are loud and can be heard from afar. 2, they also drive up player interaction per session since they were a highly contested piece of equipment in the mod.
Again, not mindlessly bashing the game. Just stating my experiences with the mod and SA. (this will probably get me banned/blocked again but whatever)

yeah but there are still the problems of:
    1. 99% of players shoot on site, so you can't really risk 3 hours of painfully boring menial labor just to get what is basically a discord server with guns, keeping in mind not everyone is going to be this fascinating role playing comedic genius.
    2. The running speed is obnoxiously slow. No real further explanation needed.
    3. It takes far, far too long to get decent gear as opposed to rust where it isn't risky, luck of the draw looting but farming nodes which gives decent, consistent gear.
    4. There's always that one asshole who has a scoped m4a4 and spends his time killing nakeds.

Great video but near the end of it i saw that you addressed that the game doesn't have much content currently, maybe that's what people mean when they talk about that dayz is boring, personally i was addicted to the arma 2 mod and is probably my favorite game of all time, i'm sad to standalone come out with a lack of content ( originally planned to have every thing that mod already had in its release in 2013-2014 ) I have hopes tho that standalone will reach its full potential soon. in any case a great video :D

My first interaction took 8 hours, he tried to sneak up on me and shoot me without a word, he missed. I turned around and beat him to death with a wrench lol. It takes so long to gear and it really instills in you a real sense of self-preservation and cautiousness, it's pretty awesome.

I always think it isn't important if people are friendly or aggressive. What matters is that you create entertaining and fun situations for the people that are playing. Killing people on sight for no reason, yeah that sucks, because it will just be over and that's it. Kidnapping someone into the forrest and killing him after a long time or becoming friends with him later, why does that suck? Pretty fun(ny) to be in that situation tbh.

    • @WhoopsieDayZ
      @WhoopsieDayZ 7 лет назад +3

+The Lazy Gamer There is no game out there where you have so much options as to what you can do as DayZ. DayZ is also one of the few games where not everything revolves about the PVP. DayZ is about people and situations, don't play DayZ as if it's a hardcore shooter, you'll have a bad time. The fact that you don't meet people that often in DayZ is also a good thing, because there aren't that many interactions, every interaction will feel more rewarding and special and players aren't as likely to instantly shoot eachother that way.

I remember a real long time ago when I had a friend that played with me every day (pretty much).
We'd spend hours a day collecting and gathering gear, and then even more hours pillaging other people's bases.
Since we did this we made lots of enemies on servers, and attracted lots of people to our base. So, we spent even MORE hours defending our base.
The game truly had endless hours of fun and lots of stuff to do.

Although this video is a bit accurate, I don't think the comparison with call of duty or battlefield is relevant.
DayZ is a bit more towards the genre that covers games such as fallout. The only difference is that DayZ is basically more open world and less competitive
One should understand that DayZ is actually rather unique as the controls and gameplay resemble most competitive fps, but at the same time, is more like a survival game, where u gear up and try to improve your weapons and maintain health by eating and what not. This aspect reminds me of minecraft survival games where the motive is too become very powerful with very good gear

  • @dominice801

The people aren't bored because they play it wrong. It's because they probably played the original Arma 2 mod before and just had to face the fact that the standalone is complete trash and will never reach the same status. Even after 4 years it's still an early Access game with so little improvement that the dev team should be ashamed of themselves.

The problem with dayz is based on the expectation that players have when playing a survival game. The vast majority plays with the expectation of having a spectacular game, full of content, epic adventures, vehicles, helicopters, boats, zombies, missiles, explosions, etc. As in the legendary frankieonpc videos of the original mod (that's why he plays arma3 now). The developers changed the course of the game forgetting that what made the mod so successful was the great amount of content and variety of game modes that players have, to feel immersed and to have unforgettable moments. Today, in dayz standalone there is only one vast map full of nothing with repetitive and inaccessible villages without first walking 2 hours to finish dead by a sniper. THAT'S BORING

    • @WhoopsieDayZ
      @WhoopsieDayZ 7 лет назад +1

Standalone isn't supposed to be an epic game full of vehicles, explosions and crazy action happening. Standalone is all about the players and the interaction. Meeting people and being in crazy situation with them is fun and because standalone is a slower game and you don't have as many crazy situations as in mod, the crazy situations themselves will feel more rewarding, special and it makes them more memorable. I have played standalone for 600 hours and I'd say every 1/2 hours someone really funny or crazy happens. Just be patient and don't care so much about what you find (gear, cars, weapons, anything) because this game isn't about being a super badass being in crazy action 24/7, it's about meeting people and having fun.
For me standalone is way, way better than the DayZ mod. I can't remember a single epic moment from when I played mod simply because there was too much action, too many vehicles, too many fights and explosions and not enough player interaction. Mod was dull, very much the same as any other open world game, complete chaos. Standalone isn't.

While also trying to maintain the illusion of being fair. They don't exist to fix problems rather than subvert anything that doesn't conform. Think of it like this if you're still not convinced. If you shit talk to someone off their community they will shadow ban your account and tell you to pretty much fuck off. This is retarded, why does the staff and owner make something fun and an activity to something to fear and be angry about? It always pissed me off that its likes a gulag/concentration camp instead of a community. Massive ego problems. Oh did i even tell you guys how the owner secretly tax evaded the Swedish government and used the funds (donations) for vacations that the community didn't even know of or rather didn't donate for?

This is SO TRUE. I met a new spawn when I was semi geared. I wasn't gonna kill him because i'm not that kind of guy. I offered him a chance to roll with me and he accepted with a uneasy tone. We rolled for a little, me mostly trying to explain how the eastern side of the map works (he had no idea about the other half of the map) and we heard shots being fired off near gorka. We entered the town, I can tell he was really uneasy and worried if I was gonna kill him. We ran towards alter and saw 2 players at the church. We engaged and I tried my best not to hit him. I killed both of them with my shotgun and collected the loot. He told me that "I never thought someone would help me." He was even more shocked when I gave him a gun with a decent sum of ammo. We made our way to novy stary, where we saw a player in the treeline that borders Stary sobor. My friend ended up dying and I killed the player. We are now friends on steam and I am so glad I made a friend yesterday. We have good chemistry and great game sense. Dayz should be played like the person you are controlling is a real person. Every encounter, every firefight, every town. Is a new experience for encounters.

Forcing content and experience creation in a role play style among strangers is not a good recipe. There is no goal or destination, it is simply an open sandbox themed with ineffectual zombies. No one is going to put in the effort

ascarydude The original Dayz mod was still esentially this. But certain servers had fun and interesting features like base building, digging, unconscious dragging, etc. Dayz doesn't need a purpose. A survival game doesn't need to do anything but have you "survive". They just need to expand on their game and not ignore the fucking community so much.

To actually be able to play DayZ and appreciate it for what it is, even with all the problems that it has I consider you an experienced gamer. DayZ is a fantastic game and yes although like I said all the problems and headaches that come along with the game I hope nothing but good things for this game and hope it becomes better. To me DayZ is one of the most interesting games I have ever played. It is one of a kind. I have 2200hours in it. Great game. It takes skill to manipulate it and play it for what it is in its current stage. If you are crying about it being boring then simply go play Call of Duty.

I really agree with this message. I ran into a geared guy in the middle of the woods one time, and he was unconscious from zombies. he had the uncon clinging to weapon glitch so I killed him thinking he would rekt me if i woke him up. I discovered he had no ammo, and regret finishing him off. I am sure we would have had a great experience. The odds of finding an uncon guy in the woods and I ruined it for a few bullets and ruined military clothes.

some of the best interactions/moments i had on dayz is when the devs buffed the zombies in numbers and strength for a very short period of time (before the community cried, and sadly the zombies were reverted back) a few years back now.... we found that rather than fighting the first group of players we saw, the strength was in numbers vs. the zombies & alliances were made.. fighting off hordes, losing friends & allies to the zombies, it was fun & exciting.... one day in particular we went from a group of roughly 4 or 5 players to a group of 20+ all looking out for each other in elektro, in the end it went south & everyone broke off into their factions (or basically every man for himself) & fought it out in the streets of elektro. But for that moment it was always the dayz i'd imagined when i bought the game.... none of this could of happened without the environment & zombies being near impossible to survive for an individual, but far easier when in a group

Isn't it sad that in today's society you have to remind people every few minutes that you aren't trying to tell them how to play the game because if you don't remind them repeatedly over and over they will lash out and accuse you of dictating how they play the game? It really is a shame. Great video about a great game by the way.

When people say nothing interesting happens, i give them this story: I was on a random private hive server (bwaf i think) and I was roaming around cherno as a freshy looking for gear. I had picked up a screwdriver and a can of sardines. I went to the PD to try to find a weapon of some sort and ran into a group of two people. They seemed friendly at first, even when they had chances to kill me they didnt take them. Eventually, we were talking outside and one of their characters started laughing (means he was a cannibal.) I turned to run but got shot in the leg and passed out. Deciding not to just respawn, I let them save me. One of them (He called himself Jackson) decided to bandage and epipen me which made me wake up. with his mosin to my head, he forced me into the PD jail with a broken leg. He shut and locked the door behind him. I made several attempts to escape but I never managed to. Fortunately, he came in to spray me with disinfectant (called it seasoning me as he was a cannibal.) while he was, his friend got shot at and Jackson left the cell to go help his friend, leaving it unlocked. I managed to crawl away from the PD, found a retro military body nearby, fixed my leg, got a gun, went back, and killed them both. it was an awesome moment and its a reason enough for me to say that interesting things can happen all the time.

My favorite interaction i've had so far was on Balota airfield. I was fully geared out, bored, hadn't seen anyone in a while. I spot a guy who was obviously a freshie (no long arms, pea coat, motorbike helmet, capri pants.. you get it) and since killing him would be totally pointless, i decided i would stay in the tree line and snipe the zombies he was trying to melee. This was not only the most fun i've had in dayz but the most fun i've ever had in a multiplayer game. He didnt know exactly where i was and probably thought i was trying to kill him, and kept looking to the treeline. I started at the north west part of the airfield and re-positioned every once in a while, a total of three times over the span of probably 20 minutes, moving all the way to the southern most part of the airfield where i sprinted up to him to say hello. I was sad he didnt have a mic because it would have been really cool to get this person's reaction to what had just happened, but its my new favorite activity in the game and gives a new level of purpose to killing zombies. You really have to get creative with this game once survival isn't a challenge any more!

i have noticed quite the contrary. When DayZ came out, my little Brother and his friends - all around 14, 15, 16 years old really dig DayZ and i couldnt understand it, mainly because DayZ was in a far worse technical state at the time.
All my colleagues would be playing LoL or CS. Things that dont require alot of fantasy, are easy to pick up, can be played in quick sessions and priorities competitive gameplay over immersion and player interaction.
I think if someone younger plays something like DayZ, its easier for them to immerse themselves, while people with more experience in video games are more likely to break down games into their mechanics and such.
For them, they actually are running through the streets of cherno, while older gamers are just pressing W+shift.

Still after 600+ hours I still run the Hero role, the interactions I have with people are unique, even if I knocked someone out to save him from eating blue berries(red ones are safe to eat), and saving someone who is getting shot and and starving to death, then feeding him fish. There still are bad experiences, like giving someone a backpack and running with him for half an hour just to get knocked out by him and then being killed. The Bandit role, you dont get those, sure you can hold someone up and FORCE them to talk to you, but they have no reason to trust you.

This reminds of the time I did some trading with a fellow player on a roleplaying server. There were no rules against killing traders you met on the forums because there was a blacklist where untrusty people were listed.
So I see a guy asking for a sniping scope in exchange for something off his inventory, he didn't seem to have much but a few rounds of AK74 ammo. I had a magazine for my 74u and a silencer but little to no ammo, I decided to contact him even though he was a trader without reputation (which was literally betting with my gear and life at the moment) and it tingled my danger sensors a bit, but I said screw it and tried to be friendly with the guy.
We set up a meeting place up north and before going in there I scan the area a bit, getting into a place where I could see the place. I see the guy with a mosin on his back, just chilling near a car. I go down and talk a bit with the guy, we exchange items and depart, I honestly expected to get KOS'd since I had an AUG when crash sites weren't spawning at all, found it by coincidence at a corpse and thought anyone would kill for it...but none of that happened, that guy ended up being cool and we added each other in facebook. he asks me If I play league of legends (I did at the time) and to my surprise, he worked at riot games, the developers of that game. hell, he even gifted me a 975 skin just because I didn't murder him with my "bandit guns" lol
I can't wait until the new updates with possible base building come out, I want to start experiencing stuff like that once again (and being a little cheeky bastard, oh how I miss raiding people's bases)

Here is a very simple breakdown why DAYZ doesn't work. It's a permadeath, long-term loot find game that also has bug-related deaths.
Got good gear? Played for hours? Fall down a 2-foot step and break your legs, bleed to death and die. Hiding in a room? Have another player glitch their camera through the wall and shoot you without you being able to see him.
They upgrade their graphics and add stupid stuff before fixing game-breaking bugs that spoil the competitiveness

Good video. I used to play DayZ a lot. Really enjoyed it but then it got boring. It got boring due to a lack of things to do and due to repetitiveness. I would join a server with some friends. Spend a few hours looting and then go and wandering around, looking for people to meet and places to see but there's nothing. So we join a higher pop server and start over. On that server we loot a few towns, finding basics, one of use dies due to hunger or thirst, unfortunately we can't help that because of the loot spawn rates. After respawn we get KOS, multiple times, by fully kitted people. So we try other servers, rinse and repeat; join, die, respawn, get KOS, respawn again, get chased by some zombies who seem to have speed hacks and stopping would allow them to kill you so you run through multiple towns trying to lose them, die of hunger due to those zombies, respawn, find some good loot, get killed, respawn.
You say about diving in, which is something I am TOO good at in any game, but why would anyone do that? I could have spent multiple real world days just to find enough ammo for my Scorpion and you think that I would want to risk everything I have done just to have a good interaction. I would love to be able to jump in, team up with people, kick some zombie ass, then go back to base talking about how awesome the culling of those zombies was. But, it just cant happen. Not with the amount of people who KOS and the very broken loot spawn system.

Try to be friendly to people, talk over the mic to try and make friends. Gets killed as soon as I trust the guy saying "I'm friendly". This game is boring. The engine is stale and clunky, the playerbase is cancer, and the devs don't care anymore. They have your money, they ran. The End.

My main pet peeve is that the devs are encouraging going north with the CLE but fucking hell, it's hard to find players near the coast with these 50 player servers let alone meet anyone in a random ass town somewhere in the north-west. The game needs at least 100 more max player slots to work with this kind of set up.

  • @Egobyte83
    @Egobyte83 6 лет назад

Agreed. This is what the RP servers do so well. The most interesting thing that DayZ actively gives you on its own is when you are a fresh spawn gearing up, the randomness and different gear you get every time is something which makes the experience as interesting as it gets from a non-interaction standpoint. The rest I think has to be provided for by the RP community. DayZ is supposed to be a playground where we create our own scenarios and rules. While there will inevitably be KOS here and there, most of the fun would come from serious roleplaying. I think the expectation by the casual players is a little skewed, with people expecting full-on death-matches right off the bat. But it is not supposed to be a battleground simulator first and foremost.
Personally, I enjoy the survival aspect of it more. I can go hours just trying to survive by finding food, staying warm and dry, scavenging other supplies, take what I can find and keeping away from zombies or other players, defending myself if I have to, etc. The atmosphere is unparalelled, the tranquil abscence of music makes it eerily realistic, you get that sense that you really are a lone wanderer in a deserted world (meeting others just makes it that much more interesting)... and if there is one game that I can just sit down and play to relax, its DayZ. Its almost therapeutical. ^^

This is true. Being in a clan is much better then playing as a lonewolf, I see people that kill everyone they spot to take their gear but what is it for, if they are already with full body armor, decent weaponery and supplies, and honestly paying 28 euros for a game just to pass my time running around the forest, find a hut with a pair of pants, a shirt, shoes, axe and food, and the first seconds I walk off the hut I get shot... That's not the kind of game that I'm willing to pay.

I think it is just that this game is for a specific kind of person and those looking for low attention span instant gratification should probably play COD, CS:GO or PUBG etc. I play as a lone wolf assassin, hiding in the shadows, stealing from stashes and patiently stalking until I can take someone out.
Trying to interact with others seems to end in betrayal or outright hostility, so I don't bother and I really enjoy playing the lone wolf survivor role

  • @Coday
    @Coday 7 лет назад

I also came to the same conclusion. There are so many people who have quit dayz (at the moment many are quitting as well). Most of them blame the slow development for spoiling their fun and so on. But it is just their playstlye. Every kill on sight is somehow the same. Playing dayz as a shooter will get boring, because dayz, in contrast to battlefield or cod, was not made for that. Interactions either begin, develop or end (or all 3 of them) differently. That's why dayz videos of interactions are unique and worth-seeing.
I personally do not need to condition my playtime on the state of development because I mostly go for interactions. I only kill people "on sight" when I can clearly identify their (in my view) bad playstyle - and that's makes it to a justified kill instead of a kill on sight. If I cannot determine the intetion of others, I always give them a chance to survive.
About 2 years ago, I produced a video called "no to kill on sight". About the same message like you try to convey with this video. There were so many people crying that the video would state that kos is the only correct way to play dayz, that I shall not tell them how to play the game, that dayz would be boring without kos ... I had to tell so many people, that the video shall only influence people and not force them to stop killing on sight. That I want to decline kos instead of eliminating it from the game in order to create a better balance between all the playstlyes. I plan to do a 2nd part and I will incorporate a big disclaimer at the beginning of the video.

If dayz had the maps & weapons that people in unturned have, the game would be infinitely better I personally think. People in unturned don't cheat or hack for a lot of reasons. The main one being is that servers have so many amazingly fun mods and plugins naturally, that don't take away from the survival experience. Now if dayz had that, it would be infinitely better.

It became boring after like the 3rd patch to standalone after it was released, when they forced everyone to spawn on the east coast and then the devs proceeded completely ruin all the coastal towns. That whole area of the map aka the most populated areas in the mod are now completely irrelevant. Instead of spawning on the coast, running for a few minutes to Elektro and getting a gun you are now FORCED to run inland for literal hours and most likely you will find nothing. This is why no one plays DayZ anymore. This is why it's boring.

Most of the KOS people are the guys who are trash at First person shooters where everyone is trying to kill each other 100% of the time. So naturally when they see they can get kills in a game where not everyone is immediately geared up and trying to pvp, they are going to compensate for being trash at actual combat and treat Day Z like its Counterstrike. Once you face these people where you both are on equal footing you see how genuinely bad they are at the one thing they play Day Z for.

The biggest reason many people here dislike DayZ so much is because of frustration that comes from stuff like dying with good loot, not finding good loot, stuff being hard to get / find (like cars) and people being too aggressive.
I think these are all very bad reasons to dislike the game. It is set in a post-apocalypse, stuff will be rare and you won't meet many people. Also does it matter if you have good stuff or not? Is that the point of the game? No it isn't, it's only important if YOU find it to be important. You can have fun in DayZ without any items, good gear does not equal fun.

This reminds me a lot of the Devision Beta some years (?) ago.
In the beginning, people were really nice to each other, helped each other out, joined squads, protected random people from rogue players (of which there were very few). Fast forward a few days into the Beta, you couldn't show your head without getting capped, and it's still like that from what I understand.

I try to be nice to people but it ends up that they kill anyone they see, not because they need my gear, because they like to shoot people.

DayZ use to be an amazing game when it was about a 50/50 kill on sight, interact...
Being a hero was so rewarding, and interacting with people who were bandits claiming that they've changed their ways, and you waerily trust them always ready to fire back but trying to see the best in them...
But now that it's basically 100% KOS outside of private/RP servers... DayZ players don't use coms anymore short of trying to trash talk while they're attacking you.

According to 2015 sales, They've gotten $120 million AND THERE ARE STILL BUGS AND GLITCHES. Just watch General Sam's point made of DayZ called People Still Defend This Horrible Game in 2017 . Like WHY DO WE NEED HIKING GEAR AND ONE OF THE NEWEST UPDATES ARE IMPOVED TREES. YES TREES. Y

The ignorance, it hurts. "Yeah bro just watch General Sam's video" uhhh, maybe you should read a status report instead of watching someone who's mining clicks.

I think the large map and infrequent encounters is what makes it the game it is, but thats what makes it good, I remember playing it with a friend and not seeing anybody building suspense but the whole time it was a fun sortof roleplayey experience and I just think its meant for a certain type of person

it's not boring. it's about realism is the fact that you can be bored for 30 minutes and be in dread for 10 seconds before you die. I like the idea of losing all my progress for the day and all my nice weapons if I die. I like needing to check all around me at all times. I love setting up ambushes instead of just shooting the second I see somone.

terrible video dayz does not suck you don't need a full auto. I went to northwest with a cross bow killed 2 and sense the map is so big you go only one way up north to find people

Its way more simple then that. Sandbox games only give you the tools to make your fun. People saying its boring are like someone you would
Give tools to build a house and after they done they would say the house isn't the way they want.

Agreed - this is why I like the bow... Less likely to be shot on sight and you get harder gameplay!
