  • Hola, adventurers of "K Now What?"!
Ever wondered if Merida, Mexico is as safe as they say? Spoiler alert: it totally is! Join Kathy and Scott as we embark on a whirlwind adventure to uncover the charm and security of this vibrant city.
First stop: one of Merida's largest markets. Picture this-colors, scents, and flavors that dance through the air like a festive piñata explosion. We'll take you through the bustling stalls, filled with local produce, handmade crafts, and, of course, some of the best street food you can imagine. Experience the vibrant culture and friendly atmosphere, and discover why Merida is a top destination for travelers.
Next, we’ll give you a grand tour of our lovely Casa. From the cozy living spaces to the charming courtyard, we’ll show you why Merida feels like home. You'll see how safe and welcoming the neighborhoods are, perfect for anyone considering a visit or even an extended stay.
But wait, there's more! We dive headfirst into Mexico’s Independence Day celebrations. Imagine fireworks, music, dancing, and more security than a presidential inauguration. The thorough security checks make sure everyone is having a fiesta without any siesta on safety. It's a fantastic way to experience local culture and festivities.
So, is Merida safe? Absolutely. And it’s a whole lot of fun too. Join us as we eat, explore, and celebrate in one of Mexico’s most enchanting cities.

So cool to see that city so many decades later and not much it seems has changed. I went to Progreso a few times and always came through Merida.
I really loved your accommodations, very nice. I love to cook and seeing a 6-burner gas stove and oven I certainly would of whipped up a dinner in that kitchen. Keep the videos coming, loved it, especially the 2 version house tour. 😅

      Thanks Don!
Merida is one of our favourite cities (we say that about a lot of places don’t we? 😂)
We’re with you about the kitchen. We also found some great produce at a local market. Delicious!

The meter where you tap the card is high, short people like that lady that was showing you how to do it would have a hard time reaching the top of the meter.

You noticed that too! That might be one of the reasons they’ve phased out the card system since we recorded that video.
      Thanks for watching!

did you say this is where you are staying for October? is this old video from last year or are we seeing into the future? that mercado you thought was super busy at the beginning looked like one of the least frenzied and most hygienic markets I have seen in Mexico! you should see the main market in San Cristobal! it's like stepping back 50 years in time. you can see it started as an outdoor market that over time just had tin roofs built over it. and the aisles are super narrow like a maze and the vendors and customers are just packed in. anyways, another nice rental you had here. you guys do really well getting ones with a pool. those ones tend to be out of my price range. anyways, I have to catch my ride to the airport in about an hour. heading back to Guadalajara today... I'll have to catch the second half of the video from there.

You caught us! We’ve been catching up on some videos we shot a while ago. So no time travel 😂!! We’ve got a few more weeks before we’ve caught up.
We get a kick out of how markets seem to take on a life of their own and grow organically. We also really enjoy wandering around markets to get a feel for a community, they really are a great place to people watch.
We’ve been pretty lucky with our accommodations and have managed to find gems like this one at reasonable rates. And yup! We love having a pool handy in warm climates!
      Safe travels!

@@KNowWhat_KathyandScott you guys have way more patience and endurance than me to wait out that late night ceremony! here in Guadalajara at New Years for example, they do a short burst of fireworks around 9pm for children that wont be able to stay up till midnight. and thats usually good enough for me. and I am back home and in bed by 10! they have various levels of security depending on what festival or holiday it is, but it's quite impressive and reassuring the efforts they go to to ensure safety. on a few occasions they even bring in portable metal detectors that you have to pass through to enter the main plazas.
