"Beware the stare of Mary Shaw, she had no children, only dolls. If you see her in your dreams, be sure you never, ever scream. She'll rip your tongue out at the seam." One of the most chilling poems in any horror movie in my opinion. This film is an underappreicated gem, thanks for covering it! 👍
I paused the video at 6:55. I have never seen this film before but I predict the lady who is now his stepmother… she’s controlling his father… Final answer. No edits.
This movie and 'Darkness Falls' are the only two movies to haunt me as a child. Looking back at it now, I still get shivers every time that doll comes up.
The "concept" of [darkness falls] was pretty good BUT at the very end, when the MC defeats the monster by saying "I see you bitch!" I was laughing so hard I couldn't take the whole thing seriously anymore
Honestly that would be a great comedy horror movie. “Monster tries to scare human but human is blind/deaf/etc and so monster is stuck and has to keep trying but fails every time”.
My wife and I tried to watch Pinocchio with our son recently and she couldn't make it through because of the fear she now has of ventriloquist dummies and marionettes. Thanks Mary 😒
Far from anywhere near The Conjuring it's still a fun film to watch. The trailer when it showed those pictures of dead families was damned scary looking. Also I h8te and will not allow any human looking or ventriloquist sized dummies or clowns inside my house. Things always have creeped me out
I'm not a big fan of horror, mostly just not a big fan of the "cheap jump-scare" cliché. But every so often a horror movie peaks my interests, and this was one of them. Such a refreshing take on a vengeful spirit tale.
I still remember the opening rhyme: *"Beware the stare of Mary Shaw, she had no children only dolls. If you see her in your dreams, be sure to never, ever scream or she'll rip your tongue out by the seam."* haven't seen the movie since about 2010. Still creeps me out.
@@kaiyyeleighakira8607 True af. I remembered back when I was a teen, I watched this movie at late night and that's when I regretted watching it cuz it scared the shitz outta me.
This was such a satisfying movie to watch in a theater back when it released. That twist ending made the entire theater gasp and I still remember that moment all these years later.
Sin? More like curse. I thought they killed her in a fit of vigilante justice in finding that she murdered a young boy and then used his body as a doll. Not sure if what they did was right but it definitely wasnt wrong.
This movie still creepy asf. It was definitely the prototype to Insidious & The Conjuring. You can tell James Wan was well on his way to revitalize the paranormal genre but probably didn’t realize he’d become the greatest horror director of our time.
Dead Silence is such an underrated horror movie. James Wan is such a great horror movie director. He's up there with Wes Craven, David Cronenberg, and Sam Raimi.
I love hate this film so much. It has its haters, but I found it very tense and entertaining, and scary. That being said, I have had a fear of ventriloquist dolls since reading "Night of the Living Dummy," and later watching the Goosebumps episode when I was 8 or 9...So, there was definitely a predisposition to being scared from this film lol
Everyone who grew up in the 80's or 90's hated any doll bigger than a G.I. Joe or Barbie. For me it was '89 when I was 6 and I'd creep downstairs, hide behind the corner of our couch & watch what my parents did, the POLTERGEIST clown doll did it. Then we had Chucky bottom line I don't allow any big dolls in my 🏠
My Neice can bring her Elsa and other Frozen stuffed animals but Nothing I can't burn up or tear apart like a Billy type doll. I seriously don't know how anyone can not find those dummies creepy as BLANK
When I see this movie it makes me think about that killer ventriloquist doll movie that Sir Anthony Hopkins played in. And the twist at the end of this movie is hilarious to me.
This movie boy...😱 It was only a matter of time before this one made it to your channel.💀 Also this movie probably had a hand in creating the doll woman from R.E. VILLAGE
Such an underrated film. It also at times reminds me of Darkness Falls, another underrated horror film. Marry Shaw and Matilda Dixon are similar but also different in a sense. Unlike Matilda Dixon for died for no reason, Mary Shaw did kind of deserved her fate. It had a gothic vibe as well. Charlie Clouser's score basically went Danny Elfman-like mode but added his SAW elements is the icing on the cake. Really like this film.
Kinda sad that alot of things children used to love are now horror movie monster, ventriloquist dummies, clowns, and those rock band animals at Chuck E Cheese
i love how creepy the moving eyes help make the dummies. having molded eyes are alright but just seeing them slowly turn gives it that much of an edge.
They say that skillful artists "pour their heart and soul" into their art hence the masterpieces they create. In Mary Shaw's case she did it literally...
I saw this movie more than a decade ago. It was the only movie that ever scared me so deeply. Thanks for covering it. Now instead of being scared by the movie, I can now appreciate it.
2 Solutions to save yourself and others from Mary Shaw: 1.) Don't scream. She won't attack you, if you don't do just that. Even if she jumps scare you, DON'T do it. No matter what. 2.) Destroy all of her dolls. Without those dolls that she created, there's no way for her to come back because she uses them as a way to return to the living world. Unfortunately, if you are a blood relative of the Ashen Family or have any connections with them or her death, you are targeted and doomed, indeed.
When I was 9yrs my mom had this book. The cover of the book with the doll holding it's finger to it's lips, it scared the piss outta me. I didn't want to be in the same room as the book.
I hate hate hate hate this film, it literally gave 10yr old me nightmares. Upside, it stopped me from screaming when I'm shocked so I can sneak around much quieter
Cool story, bro. By the way, per IMDB, the actress playing the too too hot stepmother has had to deal with drug and alcohol addiction. Oh, how the mighty have fallen....
This film doesn't get enough respect this is one of the very few films that scared tf out of me. I still won't watch it after dark. I love the ending despite it popping up on multiple 'bad ending list" Jamie pretty much choking on the urge to scream was terrifying
This is one of those horror movies so freaky ive never watched it again. To be fair tho i was a teenager when i first came across Dead Silence. That being said, this is one horror movie i might not be able to revisit ever. Thanks Niyat for the upload!
I remember when i was a kid after i watched this movie on my neighbor. I always put a pillow on my mouth whenever i sleep because i'm scared to also pull my tongue out. Poor me lmao.

Checkmate scrub., git gud.
It’s cringe
I could not agree more!!! I am going to be Mary Shaw next year for Halloween...I cannot wait!!!
"She approaches the doll using horror movie logic." Is probably my favorite thing you have ever said.
It was the unexpected ending that really was satisfying for me. James Wan is a great horror director
Absolutely! He and Leigh make a great team

That freaking doll and Annabelle doll are terrifying af. I hate that dolls so much.
Same here. & it’s ironic how the origin story is pretty similar for both films 😂
The "concept" of [darkness falls] was pretty good BUT at the very end, when the MC defeats the monster by saying "I see you bitch!"

As a kid, I used to run out of the room as fast as I could when the Darkness Falls commerical showed up. Still haunts me.
I stood in the shadows cloaded in dark sheets at the peak of my sister's Darkness Falls fear. 😂😂😂 Best scare ever when she saw me.
Just imagine if the person was mute they were trying to scare. Mary Shaw would be a little disappointed that day.
I can see that exchange in my head and the sight of Mary’s defeated face makes me laugh lol

Signing 'AAAAHHH' @ the ghouls
This movie was ahead of it's time if it was released now it would have been a major hit.
Who else agrees

No doubt I just hate that it was wasted back in '07 if they worked on the pacing of the movie it could be much more outstanding
Yes! 💯%
Definitely!
My wife and I tried to watch Pinocchio with our son recently and she couldn't make it through because of the fear she now has of ventriloquist dummies and marionettes.
Thanks Mary 😒
Horror movie can do that, I watched darkness falls. I couldn’t be in the dark for weekslol
The new Pinocchio? Because I kinda wouldn't blame her 😅
It's hard to watch Jeff Dunham, I keep seeing the dummies turn evil. Even that jalapeños on a stick
I personally loved this movie. It was tense & spooky.

Yes yes and yes the ending in this is one of the greatest twist in horror movie history.

I don't why critics didn't like this movie, it was pretty terrifying when I watched it on Cinemax 5 years ago.
Maybe they just didn’t like the ending.
Many critics are Jabroni's
Critics only like the cheesy horror movies where the hot girl survives and the black guy dies first

Right? Like the kid made fun of her act then goes missing so they presume it was her... but it actually WAS her? So lynching is okay sometimes?
Forced my family to go see this with me when I was 12. Sat front row by myself while their scary asses sat up top. Favorite horror film!
Prime example of the Thug Life actually choosing someone
The movie wasn’t even scary... 😂
What parents let their 12yr old call the shots? Entitled or beta family also yes the movie was great but not scary so how much of a chicken are they

"Using horror movie logic" that line is gold cause it's True 😂
The biggest thing in my past that reminds me of this movie is Aidens song "We sleep forever" and it's video featured in the movie.

This is a story i would have LOVED to see taken down in supernatural
Using horror movie logic is the best line
