I think you probably dont even know why and how it is useless. Unless the number is a perfect cube, and you know it is, it is useless. You will NEVER use this trick in real life. It cannot be used in any way to even help find the CR of a random number. Beyond the fact that the CR of say, 123456 must begin with a 4, and you well know that fact anyway
Why not just have a test to find the cube root of some random number with pen and paper only?

3 years late, but you can do it like this for not 100% exact but really close to exact answers. Let’s say you wanna square root 87 for example. Your gonna go to the closest perfect square root near it, so 81 square root is 9. 9 is your whole number, and the difference between 87 and 81 is your numerator. So for now we have 9 and 6 over something. To get the denominator just double the whole number. So 9 and 6 over 18. 6 over 18 is equal to 1 over 3, so that’s roughly about 0.33. So your answer to the square root of 87 is close to 9.33. Hope it helped!
