The irony is that the wooden furniture is a custom replacement. I wonder if Obsidian ever explained why they chose to model wooden furniture on the service rifles they put into New Vegas. Just a stylistic holdover from Fallout 3's G3 lookalike?
In the fallout universe they ran out of oil alot faster then real life, so things like plastics weren't used often. I also think it's a post-war reproduction.

Fun fact, the Dutch were big rivals of the Portuguese, they gave them probably as much grief as the Spaniards, I'm talking about a time back in the 1500-1700s though.
Actually put of the rivalry was because of the south American territories aka Brazil. It isn't by chance that north of Brazil, is Suriname, previously a Dutch colony, and they did try at least 3 times to go south a day in fact controlled some parts of northern Brazil for a few years. With the "help" of Spanish troops we, managed to kick them out. The price(part) of this was Olivença. Not even most Portuguese people know this
I wouldn't compare them to the Spanish though. Even the British were bigger rivals and they re the oldest allies simultaneously. They were more like a rock in a shoe.
Incorrect fact. The Dutch liked the portuguese very much, but were always very pragmatic. Under the dynastic union when Spain fucked every portuguese diplomatic relation, the Dutch treated the portuguese as free game. After the portuguese secession from the Union, given that the spanish are the dutch most hated, and the spanish resented Portugal, relations kind of went back to normal (although the dutch never recovered from the bitterness of several humiliating defeats trying to seize portuguese assets in the east and west indies).

Hi Ian, good to see you putting out amazing quality content as allways. I'm really really interested in this particular style of firearms, during the Cold War era. My dad was in the millitary in the 70's in the Portuguese Air Force as a logistics operator and also was a truck driver that did a lot of work in ressuplying the troops in mainlaind Portugal but also for sending stuff to the African colonies (Angola, Mozambique, Guiné-Bissau). He actually ended service a bit before the 25th of April 1974 Carnation Revolution coup d'etat that brought down the Estado Novo (New State) totalitarian right wing/fascist dictatorship here in Portugal wich basicly put the stop on the Portuguese Colonial War. He's an avid hunter and really into firearms but he's in his mid 60's and isn't very school educated so he understands preety much nothing of English. When I come home to my parents I often find him watching English or German speaking videos of guns, war footage or hunting videos but he doesnt understand any of it. Is there any way for you, using YT, to enable subtitles in other languages, especially Portuguese, so I can give him a present and introduce him to your videos? He would be preety happy. He's got a semiauto shotgun (with a 2 round magazine 'cuz European style gun laws), a break action shotgun and a Savage Arms Axis 30.06 that he uses for hunting and he's gonna get Browning Maral 30.06 straight pull bolt action rifle with a 10 round magazine (wich is a burocratic and expensive thing to do). I'm a hunter myself but I went with him and my godfather and some of their friends a lot of times. They like rabit/hare/bird hunting but especially boar hunting with our dogs. Here in the Netherlands, these guns were quite easy to buy in the 1980s. These had of course been modified so that they could not fire fully automatically. they weren't really expensive.

I was an associate of Jerry Drasen 25 years ago. His old warehouse and Sendra shop was purchased by D.S.Arms about 20 years ago where new production FAL's and AR's are made today. Jerry was one of the very first makers of stripped 5.56mm AR-15 receivers for home builders, I think he started those around 1979-'80. They were fantastic quality for their time.

Had the Kentucky Arms version with the Brown Plastic Furniture. #3508 DIDN'T HAVE A 3rd Hole for the rocker, semi only. Traded a H&R M-14 for it. It had the Grenade Ringed Barrel Jacket just like that, also the 3 position has port cylinder. Every detail is the same except the furniture. Pop it open so I can see if the trigger has the offset side spring on the hammer.
I have wanted one of these since my days in the US Army, that began in 1970, so for a very long time. I had a lot of faith in the 5.56 round, we used them in Vietnam, and they were good for jungle warfare, you could carry a lot of ammo, very important over there, and you had a fairly controllable full auto when it was time to shit and git. That said, I am and have always been an avid deer hunter, and I know that the 5.56 is marginable when it comes to knock down power of a deer size animal (IE us) A .308 is a much better round for deer hunting thus is a better round when it comes to taking down a human. I no longer even own a deer rifle because I a no longer able to hunt, getting to old and am disabled, but I still own a home and need something to defend it. All I have any more is my old .45 ACP M1911A1 but that should do if I am in need of a firearm. That said, an AR10 in the corner would be nice.
With all of the RUclips "foolishness", I truly hope you guys are able to continue to produce excellent historical videos on awesome weaponry! Thank you for all of your hard work...
I remember the Sendra Corp selling these receivers at the Ohio gun collectors show back in the 1980’s. I believe they were about $250. Later on Sendra got in trouble and went out of business. They re-appeared to sell military parts under the Nesard name, but no receivers due to the trouble they were in. They made top quality receivers for AR-10’s and AR-15’s. Some had a rather strange dark purple hue to them.
This is my favorite style of AR-10. That furniture is beautiful. It also looks nice with stained wood and case hardened metal components, atleast as far as I've seen on the internet.

Artillerie Inrichtingen. A former Dutch state-owned company producing armaments from the 17th century until the 1980s. The company was split, renamed sold etc. etc. Not sure but none of its successor companies produce weapons anymore I think. Almost nothing remains of them , either.
you don't need a forward assist because it's bad to jam things where they don't want to go, and also because there was a little dish on the bolt carrier for your thumb to push it forward.
Back in the days Artillerie Inrichtingen workers could buy the surplus spare parts for the steel price and sold them to Dutch target shooters... those days are gone. Forever.
I hear the only way to really dispose of them.. is to shoot thousands and thousands of rounds through them.. to eventually destroy the rifling. Good luck!
Ian, gotta correct you on the whole carry handle myth. It _was_ designed from the beginning as a carry handle. If you look at the ArmaLite X-03 prototype, you will find that it had a carry handle, but no trigger style charger. It was side charging. The X-03 preceded all versions of the AR-10, thus the carry handle was always meant as a carry handle, and only protected the trigger style charger by incidence when it was later added.
Kyle Goldston That screams hyperbole to me. If that's the case then using a sling, carrying it by the fore-end, and firing the rifle would have the same effect on wear.
Damn looking at the wooden furniture. I wish M-16 still use the wooden furniture. Gave it almost diesel Punk /apocalyptic theme to it. People might prefer this configuration more than the AK
keith moore Portugal has it's own 7.62 round for the modified g3 and fal, the fn 68-70, and there's a massive number of those in storage. Some units are issued the g36 with 5.56 but most of the army is going to stick to the modernized g3 for a couple decades more.

Sad thing about the Angola thing is that the international community came down hard on the Portuguese government for the methods used against the angolan rebels but then turned a blind eye as entire families and villages were slaughtered by these machete wielding rebels. They didnt provide any sort of help to them. Today, after all that, Angola is still a ravaged country with corruption comming out the ass and still dependent on international help.

Back in the days Artillerie Inrichtingen workers could buy the surplus spare parts for the steel price and sold them to Dutch target shooters... those days are gone. Forever.
Don't buy this gun. They're terrible and need to be disposed of properly. By me....
What?! No! Uh....I mean...maybe?
TheGoldenCaulk no
I hear the only way to really dispose of them.. is to shoot thousands and thousands of rounds through them.. to eventually destroy the rifling. Good luck!
You would.
And I'll help, gratis.

"Starting with a couple of small ones"
*Names largest country in Africa and second largest European political entity*
Sudan was a small country in terms of population
Yeah Ian, on that Portuguese arms tip
I hope RUclips's new BS policies on showing guns doesn't destroy this channel. Ian gives good model reference.
HAHA!!! Somebody's Hungry! 11:10 (actually at 11:12 but a couple of seconds earlier so you can listen for what I'm talking about!) XD
Never expected an ar to look good in wood
Ian, gotta correct you on the whole carry handle myth. It _was_ designed from the beginning as a carry handle. If you look at the ArmaLite X-03 prototype, you will find that it had a carry handle, but no trigger style charger. It was side charging. The X-03 preceded all versions of the AR-10, thus the carry handle was always meant as a carry handle, and only protected the trigger style charger by incidence when it was later added.
i.imgur.com/KyZWHfz.jpg here's an example of the X-03 along with two other early models
EDIT: Fixed link because tinypic is garbage
Good point. I looked it up and you are right.
+Kyle Goldston true, but that's besides the point. Stoner always liked the idea of a carry handle that was integrated into the rear sight arrangement.
Kyle Goldston That screams hyperbole to me. If that's the case then using a sling, carrying it by the fore-end, and firing the rifle would have the same effect on wear.
The only reason I could see the military disapproving of use of carry handle is that it prevents you from carrying your rifle at ready.
Damn looking at the wooden furniture. I wish M-16 still use the wooden furniture. Gave it almost diesel Punk /apocalyptic theme to it. People might prefer this configuration more than the AK
Forgotten Weapons i don't want IAN to be gone. Off This new youtube gun policy. I actually learn about weapons history. Fav weapons channel.
and still in 2018 we keep using the g3 as our main service weapon in portugal
freedomdesigner The g3 is just better, and it's a Portuguese modification for It, Portugal Caralho!
keith moore Portugal has it's own 7.62 round for the modified g3 and fal, the fn 68-70, and there's a massive number of those in storage. Some units are issued the g36 with 5.56 but most of the army is going to stick to the modernized g3 for a couple decades more.
Yes, but special forces use g36 and m4
And even the using an MG42 as a light machine gun in use
@@quint2885 Será que me podias ajudar? Eu encontrei uma bala que era do meu avô do tempo de angola. É uma 7,62x51mm e tem um nome de FNM 12-61. Sabes que tipo de bala é esta e que características especiais tem comparando com outras.
Beautiful gun I love the wood furniture
Would enjoy an ar upper with the same charging design
Sad thing about the Angola thing is that the international community came down hard on the Portuguese government for the methods used against the angolan rebels but then turned a blind eye as entire families and villages were slaughtered by these machete wielding rebels. They didnt provide any sort of help to them. Today, after all that, Angola is still a ravaged country with corruption comming out the ass and still dependent on international help.
lol what has darwin to do with anything
of course it's difficult to run a fractured country when you have no experience of governing on a national scale, that shit takes time just like it did in Europe from the 6th to the 20th century
Cory Smith lol both the U.S and Soviets ? Lmaoo damn
Would you like to retroactively clarify that comment about how controllable these things are in full auto?
Love your vids.
Possibly the first gun I'd really want for myself showcased on this channel. It's so cool. But I'm a leftie and I'd probably get brass in my face from shooting this.
Patrolling the Mojave almost makes you wish for a nuclear apocalypse.
