- My unboxing, initial impressions and first light of the new Skywatcher Evolux 82ED refractor telescope.
I test out it's visual performance and also astrophotography performance with my modified Canon 1200D.
This was purchased by me through First Light Optics who were extremely helpful.

Next additions include the Skywatcher Evoguide 50ED, Starizona Apex ED 0.65x Reducer, Optolong L-Ultimate Filter and ZWO ASI533MC Pro.

I bought the 62ED 1 week ago. I am verry happy with it. Only need to save money now for an Flatterner, because they are pretty expensive. For now i will use an Cameradaper with an 12mm extension, which give me just enough travel to get in focus. Hope to get the flattener next year. I did also an Unboxing video.
Hey Oxizee yes the flatterers are quite expensive, especially for such a small F ration reduction. Yeah I also needed to add an extension adapter to achieve focus. The 62ED looks great, what mount are you using it with?

Mate. That Bresser looks like a beast of a scope! If you're anywhere near Brisbane, shout out. Would be great to compare notes (I've got the 80mm sVbony).

Hey Nick, yeah if I didn’t find the mount I don’t think I could of kept it. She’s big 😂. I almost got an Svbony during the Amazon Prime deals so it would be good to see the comparison! I’m Toowoomba during the week and Gold Coast weekends. Cheers mate, and yes those clouds needs to go 😂
Nice video! I understand that this first 2minutes photo was at native focal length of 530mm, without corrector.How are the stars on the edges?!
Thanks very much! Honestly nothing that I would personally worry about. As it was such a wide view cropping in a little would take care of most if not all. But I'm not a pixel peeper anyway haha. I now us a 533MC pro so it would be a non issue anyway now.
I'm not sure it was the right move to sell the 294- I've had both and I think the 294 is a better camera. Sweet rig! Can't wait to see what you get with it.

Hello I'm from England and live in Torquay near Exeter where First Light Optics is. Thinking about buying this scope but what is the moon like through it and planets overall? Thanks 👍
Hey Matt, lucky you to have them right around the corner 😄 I’ve found the scope excellent for the moon and planets. Even with a 2.5x Barlow and full zoom on the Baader MKIV and I couldn’t notice any abnormal degradation. The contrast I find is really really good :)
@@prettyaverageastro7409 Yes FLO is about 20 mins drive away in Exeter from me. Bought my last Skywatcher 127mm Mak Skymax a few years ago from them. I am looking for something portable so I'll definitely check out a much lighter mount as I live in the top floor of an apartment building and no garden but I would like to transport the scope and mount and go to a darker location to observe the moon and planets. I've sold my Maksutov a while ago but do you think this Refractor would outperform the Skywatcher 127mm Skymax Maksutov scope? I'll get the Baader Hyperion MK 1V but gotta find a suitable portable mount. Is this scope quite heavy? Thanks 👍
@@mattk5020 The Evolux 82ED is half the weight of your Mak so it would be much more portable and comes with a nice low profile case for transport. This scope would be a much wider field of view, a bit over double. So you’d have more options for wider nebula targets as well as the planets.
You have your Canon straight into 2inch collar of the Evolux. I am not getting in focus with that. I need a flatternet for that or extension tube atleast around 50mm. You didnt had the starizona flattener at that time?
I also needed to put on a 50mm extension tube on, found out quickly after that part of the clip. I think I was still waiting for the reducer as it was coming from a different company.
@@prettyaverageastro7409 Do you have also, when you turn the focus knobs, the image shift a little bit while turning the knobs back and forth? Any clue to fix that play?

You'll just need a canon 2 inch T-adapter :)

Thanks heaps mate! I used one of the default title fonts in iMovie on my Mac. I believe it’s called ‘Line’. Cheers :)

Wow, cheaper to get all these from FLO than in Australia. That's amazing. Wish I knew before I bought my 72ED months ago now :) Where did you get the belt mod for the HEQ5?
I was the same, just assumed ordering from overseas would generally be more expensive. I ordered it from FLO as well bundled with a few other pieces. 72ED is a great scope as well :)
How did you make the pictures of the moon with the 82ed? Could you explain your setup please :)?
Hey Midnight! The moon pic was taken with my old Evostar 80ED and HEQ5 with a modified canon 1200D with an Astronomik CLS filter (A normal DSLR will do though!) It was a combination of 3 pictures of the moon in different phases and exposures. I then merged them together and used a generic star photo as the background. I watched some of the popular RUclips videos on how to do a moon HDR picture :)

Thanks haha! If you can get a second hand DSLR and lense that would be all you need for the moon :) But if you can find one that's been Astro modified that would future proof you if you get sucked deeper into astrophotography😂
I do all ready own a 6d mk2, but the scopes and eyepices are a jungle 😅
