      I like wearing a white or off-white completely unlined linen jacket over a polo on hot days. It's airy thanks to the linen and no lining (not even sleeve lining), and thanks to the white color it's cooler in the sun than not wearing it.

      Go for bright colours and linen but yeah don’t layer too much we all know the feeling from Tropical countries 😅 it’s also the humidity not only the heat, quite a torture.

    If you layer Earth tones, you pretty much can't go wrong. Blues, browns, greys, mid/dark green, burgundy, and white/off white.
    Stick to those colour combinations and you can always layer well. As you gain experience, you can start combining patterns and textures as well.

    • @edennis8578
      @edennis8578 Год назад

      You absolutely can go wrong with the colors you named. Burgundy and brown isn't acceptable in some regions, and burgundy and green will bring out the worst in atheists or pagans. Been there, done that. I had a ren faire costume in dark green and burgundy, taken right from an illuminated manuscript, and I was verbally assaulted by a wicca woman who screeched, "It looks like Christmas!" over and over and scared some kids.

    • @edennis8578
      @edennis8578 Год назад

      Just to add, if I were going to start from the beginning, I would stick to black, gray, and white. Navy is too hard to match unless you buy everything from the same brand in the same season of the same year, because they like to alter even basic colors from year to year. Black is easy; even if the sheen is slightly different from one garment to another, different textures will usually solve that problem, like black twill pants with a black sweater, or black leather jacket.

    These are all super nice combinations though very informal and modern, I go with classic stuff for autumn:
    Grey striped Winchester shirt with club collar
    Formal Cravat in silver grey with a white glass stone pin on a silver base
    Textured light grey six button waistcoat
    Three button single breasted white pin stripes on charcoal grey suit with grey silver mother of pearl buttons
    Dark grey coke hat with black band and rim
    and now for a little contrast to the greys and silvers
    Burberries (yes, with the classical genitive and the unchanged till the 90s WW1 pattern cut) trench-coat in it's classical light khaki colour
    And nothing here's even remotely complicated (and we have a whopping four layers here) - just layering a single type of "colours" (black and white are none, but for the purpose here they will be regarded as such) until you reach a point, either an accessory like the tie or the outermost layer to change the colour palette and even that is still harmless here because it's an "almost" neutral with khaki being a brown-ish colour.
    Of course you could add another element in this and maybe do what I do sometimes and wear the accessories in, say, purple which goes well with pretty much anything anyway.
    That's my lame advice for formalizing it up, to go down with the formality... well, there's everything here in great detail😸
    Best regards
    Raoul G. Kunz

    Autumn and winter are the best for layering.
    I love experimenting, and seem to be subconsciously using lots of the tips you suggested, but also learnt quite a lot more.
    I picked up some bright colour t-shirts and polos last year and love combining them with black jeans, and my blue denim shirt, and another layer or two on tip. Just works so well. Also, the classic Hoody with overcoat/parka/denim coat on top works so well too.
    Thanks Antonio, keep up the good work!

    Count on the government to take credit for something men have been doing for years. You put out a question a while back about cowboys. The drovers on the trail drives were masters of layering as in the mornings it would be cool and as it warmed up during the day they could take of a layer and put it back on later in the day.

    I would be cautious using analogous colors if you're a fashion novice. I can think of several analogous colors that look *terrible* together. For example, loden green + emerald green. Or hot pink + tomato red.
    Instead, I would recommend (for fashion novices) that all colors be neutrals (black, white, gray, brown, navy), with the exception of accessories that can incorporate *one* non-neutral color.
    Obviously, for people who understand colors, there's no need to be that restrictive. (And that's essentially what Antonio said.)

    Layering is a lot older than 1943. Watch movies from the 1930s; layering was normal, from farmers to the upper class. Shirt, sweater, jacket. Shirt, jacket, coat. Shirt, vest, jacket, coat. Normal.

    • @karlr750
      @karlr750 Год назад +2

      The right layers can work well for heavier guys. Wear either an overshirt, jacket, or coat, but leave it completely undone. By having the open top layer, you divide your body into thirds, which creates a slimming optical illusion. (Each third is fairly narrow.)
      Suits and sports coats also work well for heavy guys, provided that they're structured and well tailored. The structure creates a more rectangular illusion over the round body shape. Because of their design, you can button a suit jacket or sports coat and still have it flatter your larger torso.

    • @baze3SC

      It's still good advice. I find women's fashion advice is often kind of "out there" and needlessly complicated, likely to lead us into making the kind of mistakes that will make the men in our lives ask, "Wth are you wearing?" If they don't say it, they think it. Men's classic, traditional style is a very solid basis for everyone.
