    I live in SLC and race in St. George and Cedar City all the time. It's not until seeing your videos that I realize "Cedar City is a genius place to train for any St. George race!" It's also a gorgeous place. Hopefully you have had a great first impression of out beautiful state. As we were driving past Cedar I told my family "The winner of 70.3 Worlds next week is staying right here guys!"

    Great to have y’all in town and catch glimpses of you two. Super interesting to me that you’ve chosen Cedar City as the place to get ready for Worlds. I’ve prepared for many triathlons up here and I can see how it’s great for a couple of weeks but I sure have never loved it. I am glad it seems to be working for you and I sure hope it’s great prep for an amazing race for you, Lucy!! I’ll be cheering for you on Saturday! Starting in the foot, then moving up to the calf, then to the quads/hamstrings. I don’t know what might have gone wrong because I’ve been doing daily stretching. I was wondering if you could make a video on how you avoid things like this to happen.

    Now I know I'm no one but did your coach say 2 weeks would be enough? I only ask because I watched another video and the guy was like yeah the first 7 to 10 days just gets you used to the height and then the work on getting better and having your body do all the blood work you want to happen so he suggested that 21 days was a good starting time frame but the longer the better. He would like the altitude you are at though so that is good. I get that I'm a year late :) Hey I started following you after the win and I learned about your injury and recovery, well I think you are a very good-looking woman and that Reece guy seems like a very lucky guy.

  • @benedictmorley1287
    @benedictmorley1287 2 года назад +2

    *Disclaimer* This is pure speculation. Reece mentioned during his 5k pb series about how pushing more on the running side led to a loss in mass which made running easier as you have to move less mass but made biking harder as you're able to output less power. I would assume in short distances this would have less of an impact but for the longer distances an extra 500g could mean carrying an extra 1% which could cause times to be 1-5 minutes slower on the run. Is this something you consider when going into these races or do you believe it all balances out?

    • @LucyCharlesBarclay
      @LucyCharlesBarclay  2 года назад

      We only monitor our weight when we are in heavy training. We are both careful to not let it drop too quickly, because this is often a sign of dehydration and/or depleted glycogen stores. We fluctuate abit in the “off” season but tend not to obsess about the weight because it normally always returns to what we consider “race weight” within a few weeks of normal training.

    I though high altitude training was unproven in that while it builds efficiency it does not build capacity. I'm going to improve my water efficiency by drinking less. Well tjat would maybe result in needing less water but you could never train long enough to make it useful. Or is the point just to mimic race conditions and climate?

    • @ricksimpson8446
      @ricksimpson8446 2 года назад

      High Altitude training induces a natural/legal EPO increase. The problem with Altitude training is one cannot get in the volume of intensity one can at sea level. So, altitude training is better done during the part of the season where the volume of intensity goes down aka the taper. Alternatively, some use altitude training at the beginning of the season & this might "shock" the body into rapid adaption.

    Guys--two weeks at altitude won't do much of anything for you ya :(
    It takes like 5-6 weeks to see an hypoxic influence on RBC production --just for everyone who might not understand that. It might help you with fluid status--electrolyte balance (we have a higher ventilatory rate at altitude that will blow off CO2 and that can affect our blood bicarbonate--but once again 2 weeks at altitude will not improve your performance from an O2 transport perspective. Best---Jeff

    • @erinhoril7217
      @erinhoril7217 2 года назад

      It will mitigate many of the negative effects of performing at altitude if you don't live there though! Increases in plasma volume and a few other factors will happen more acutely, which will offset the negative things most others not acclimated will experience!

    Don't think that you gave the altitude training a long enough time for the most benefits. You should be training for at least 2 months at altitude to allow your body to create more red blood cells and then begin to start real fitness. Super fit couple!!!

    • @erinhoril7217
      @erinhoril7217 2 года назад

      The literature shows you can acclimate in a couple weeks!! They are especially onto something with doing their harder stuff lower where they can still do intensity. I think for the purposes they are doing it for, they nailed it!

    • @ricksimpson8446
      @ricksimpson8446 2 года назад

      From what I read there is a trade-off between muscular fitness & cardio-vascular/cardiopulmonary fitness. Altitude allows one to become more fit from a cardiovascular standpoint but compromises the ability to get more muscularly fit (vs sea level) because one cannot do the volume of intensity one can at sea level. However, during the Taper the volume of intensity goes down anyway so this is an ideal time to go to altitude. Those who live at more extreme altitude have great cardiopulmonary fitness but less muscular fitness. 2 months might give one more time to develop greater cardiopulmonary fitness but muscular fitness might suffer.
