It did great. I have started doing more fall new seeding instead of spring new seeding. And have been getting better stands. I think the cooler fall weather helps
I've been looking at doing this maybe next year. Not to many good videos on it so thanks! Hope you do an update video in the spring so we can see how it turns out. 👍🏼
I will run over to that farm one of these days and make an update video of the Alfalfa so far, then again next spring! We have always had better luck planting new seeding in the fall vs spring! Thanks for watching
Nice! I'd love to upgrade from our 6' Great Plains drill, but beggars can't be choosers and she gets the job done! Last cut of hay going down tomorrow and baling on Saturday hopefully. Then I'll be starting on planting 80 acres of winter grazing. I don't know that I'm brave enough yet to take our coulters off since everything is overseeded into bermudagrass sod.
larsonvalleyfarm thanks! Unfortunately there was a scheduling mixup and our fertilizer (poultry litter) and lime was delivered and spread today which messed up all my best laid plans since it was spread on the field to be cut among others. Also found we had hogs root up large sections of it overnight so had to light disc that to smooth it back down before planting. Nature and Murphy always have other plans lol! Luckily we have four legged harvesters that can handle bumpy terrain so it won't go to waste!
Do you have good luck planting Alfalfa this time of year. I was always afraid that it wouldn't get established enough before it froze and winter killed, but I'm from the great white North.
U sure can see always up on that hill! Are u still using the self propelled haybine to mow hay? Not many drills in my area. Only ones I can think of are Tye drills and a few JD
LVF & Northern Wisconsin Farming Well spotty could been from the winter? But as of last fall you had good germination and a good stand? As a kid I used to put equipment together for a dealer and on there and wheel grain drills they had a alfalfa seed attachment. All it was was another little tiny Hopper up front with a little metering roll in there and then had dropped tubes and it dropped the elf Elf on the ground next to the grain disc opener. I would be nervous with a regular drill that we have spots for the Alfalfa would get too deep?
I wish I could have found a no-till drill like yours instead of the one I have now. I like the set up yours has a lot better than mine. But it looks like your doing a fine job planting ! Bandit
Custom corn chopping what is an idea of price is it by the acre or ton or hour I was ask to custom chop but have no idea or nothing to base it or compare it to
Smalltown Farmer88 the big claas get 375 per hour plus fuel, but he covers a lot of ground, the trucks are around $85/hr plus fuel. Last time I custom chopped with a pull type I charged $50 a hour plus fuel.
Not a cold shoulder. I overreacted. I commented on your thinning trees last night and thought you might have enjoyed it. I do enjoy your videos and will continue to watch.
Beautiful country up there!! So have you found a Trimble to help with spraying and planting? Is this roundup ready alfalfa? I heard people around here are planting it now

+Soybean Farmer I feel it's my own piece if God's country!
How did this alfalfa do?

@@LVFFarmVlogs Thanks
Not enough seed in the box .at 2.00 right side almost empty. At this level you need more seed or someone making sure the seed is at the meter.

+Floyd Farms dang, sounds like you had quite the curve ball thrown your way. And yes, let those girls harvest for you!

+AndersonCattleCo. We've had very good luck. End of August is usually better, but things are a little behind due to all the rain
U sure can see always up on that hill! Are u still using the self propelled haybine to mow hay? Not many drills in my area. Only ones I can think of are Tye drills and a few JD
+Jake Ziegler yep, still using the 1499!
how does this field look this year?
Jon Stevens Maple Grove Farms I will try and get over there and check it out. I was told it's spotty

Nice drill
Farmall Fanatic thanks! I really like it
How big is the field you are drilling in.
+roger wilson 10 acres
I wish I could have found a no-till drill like yours instead of the one I have now. I like the set up yours has a lot better than mine. But it looks like your doing a fine job planting ! Bandit
+Bandit farmer thanks Bandit!
How much does that drill weigh since you have good down pressure.
JEFFERY TRICE not sure, but it's heavy!
How did the clear seeding in the fall turn out for yah
pretty good, there were a few spots that nothing came up, but I would say about 90% of the stand came up
How did this end up working out. I have to do the same thing in an old triticale field. Did you spray first? Thanks
Worked out great
My grain drill doesn't have a chart for small seed either! Makes it at pain! Lol. What's a bag of alfalfa going for in your area
+Michigan Farming I think he paid $200 a bag
That would have been a good job for your new GPS unit!
+DeHaven Family Farm darn right it would!

larsonvalleyfarm thanks for the help is $75 to much I provide tractor chopper and dump wagon
+Smalltown Farmer88 no, not too much
larsonvalleyfarm thanks for the help 👍
+Smalltown Farmer88 no problem, hope you have a safe harvest with no break downs
could probably find a chart online somewhere? It is probably just plain wore off maybe?
Good video.
sorry you don't reply to non farmers like me. I am a life long Cabinetmaker and appreciate what farmers do.
+Chuck Stevenson sorry Chuck. Didn't realize I gave you the cold shoulder
Not a cold shoulder. I overreacted.
I commented on your thinning trees last night and thought you might have enjoyed it.
I do enjoy your videos and will continue to watch.
+Chuck Stevenson thanks! I'll have to double-check the comments!
I think you can match this drill to a White and use their small seed box settings.
+Bill Whitman ok, I'll have to check into that
If anything those two outside coulters could be used as row markers! Lol.
The bad part is the tires run over the outside rows and hide them!
That would like to be my next purchase is a no till drill I a huge fan of nontill lol it works way better for me
+Smalltown Farmer88 I love notill! It's always worked great for me
Beautiful country up there!! So have you found a Trimble to help with spraying and planting? Is this roundup ready alfalfa? I heard people around here are planting it now
Landmark cattle not round up ready
