Sea Turtle Rescue! | JONATHAN BIRD'S BLUE WORLD

- The Blue World team learns how sea turtles, mostly highly-endangered Kemp's Ridley sea turtles, get caught in Massachusetts bay at the end of the summer and become stranded due to falling water temperatures. Then volunteers from the Mass Audubon Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary collect the stranded turtles on the beach and bring them to the New England Aquarium's animal care facility where they are nursed back to health. Finally the sea healthy sea turtles go back to Florida for release to the wild with the help of Sea World.

This isn't caused by humans...
briennabradley it’s natural for many babies of an animal to die when hundreds of offspring are produced, it’s not caused by pollution

All turtles in the world should be protected. Also ghost nets & anyone throwing garbage into the oceans should be charged!

Rather than charging them, they should be required to spend community service time caring for injured animals. That's the only way to really prevent repeat offenders...

Hey Jonathan. Great video as usual. found an article from Nat Geo that makes reference to a population of Kemps Ridley turtles in the 1940's of around 40000 in a single nesting location. Another article with an estimate in 2004 of around 7000-9000 and as low as 1000 nesting females today. What are the factors that create such a large deterioration of turtles?
