- My rear subwoofer started making awful noise like speaker is blown. Just like the front door speakers, the foam surround has crumbled. I replaced the foam surround using kit from Simplyspeakers.com that I got from eBay for $18. I followed this guide from clublexus.com - www.clublexus.com/forums/atta...

Really nice video write-up. Clear and entertaining. Looks like a low-cost fix for someone comfortable with the DIY aspect. From what I've read it's hard to find an aftermarket speaker that fits, so if the coil's not blown, this looks like a smart choice! Good point out about torquing the seat and seat-belt bolts back down to spec for safety.
Very useful video; my only suggestion is that to tone down the background music as it is too loud and at times hard to hear you.
Good Video! I am inspired to repair my speaker, on My Lexus LX470!
Very informative. was the speaker hard to remove from the housing? mine seems to be stuck n i dont want to mess it up
Thank you. I don't recall having too much trouble on mine. Sounds like there's adhesive holding it that you might want to try heating up with a hair dryer to soften and you may just have to do a bit of prying.
@@atm4jim i was able to repair the foam with it still in the box. a little harder to do tho
Any Porsches videos???
Hey so I got that same kit but my repair piece looks bigger than yours. Can you tell me how big you was? Inside diameter was 5.5 inches. Outside was about 8. Does that seem right?
That does seems larger than mine. Perhaps you got the surrounds and size for the front doors?
You can find dimensions at Amazon website, here the kit for front speakers and the sub for GX470- www.amazon.com/Simply-Speakers-Compatible-2003-2009-FSK-GX470/dp/B07YMSSG4C/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=gx470&m=A1DE8D3BEYXSQE&qid=1656964663&s=merchant-items&sr=1-1
Jeez, just replace the speaker if you’re gonna go to all that trouble.
Agree, and I definitely considered that, but the speaker is part of a package, and I didn't want to upgrade the system - factory amps, enclosure, etc. Just replacing the driver with another different type may not worked as well.
@@atm4jim my sub is blown too. I’m grappling with a solution. I called my local installer and they suggested getting an OEM sub from Lexus, but dang, they’re over $450. Ridiculous. And you just can’t buy the speaker part, you gotta buy the whole box assembly.
