    Ive been enjoying Ajahn Bram for going on 2 yrs now its usually the way I start my day. I belive what some might see as an ego is just a man who is not afraid to share his personal anecdotes and accomplishments. He teaches, like Jesus Christ, and the Buddha, and many other enlightened teachers, that we should love ourselves as well as all others in the same way. His heartfelt way of sharing his belifes in a manner somtimes serious somtimes light and funny, has helped me through the good times and the hard times, like he says "this to shall pass". I consider him my spiritual mentor. Thank you Ajahn......Saduh,Saduh,Saduh...

    I've listened to this talk many many times and I finally got his "Space" analogy -- such as putting 'space' in your daily schedule. Simple, but yet profound teaching by an enlightened being. Sadhu 3X.

    Just reading some of the comments below, I think we need to see Ajahn for what he is, a great Buddhist monk with a teaching style both refreshing, educational and sometimes comedic. As for having an ego, well I have spent a lifetime looking for it but can't find it! We need more Buddhist teachers like Ajahn and, for instance, Dzongsar Jamyang Khentse Rinpoche, to bring a sense of modernism to what is, after all, a religion dating back 2,500 years!

    I asked that question. Thank you Ajahn Brahm. You nailed it. The West sees space that holds us apart. The East feels space that binds us together. The space of the middle path does both at the same exact time. Thank you for taking my suggestion. Good job.

    _"Funnelly"_ enough (which will pun; once _it_ sounds) I was actually considering some theoretical physics myself the other day. Lucky in my haze of epiphany
    I was smart enough to jot it down. I will summarize:
    -The multi-verse bubble theory sounds pretty good to me. However I don't see universe bubbles per se. More so I agree with the _"trumpet_ theory" of expansion in 4+ dimensions.
    -Black holes are a matter/energy "exchange" into an "amniotic sac" like *subspace*. That subspace is what spawns "matter expansion events" (universes, where time exists). Universes that have boiled out of, rather, blossomed out from said "subspace".
    -The subspace is a sector in and of itself. That is a conglomeration of matter, anti matter & energy. That subspace holds a balance ("laws"). When the balance is disturbed*, it self corrects by emitting a "trumpet" or "universe" where its own simple "molecules" are plants & stars. *(by a force / area from outside the "subspace sac" that, surrounds our universes).
    Re: Pedophilia is arrested psychosexual development... and most likely treatable in consideration of neuroplasticity. I believe that Ajahn Brahm *may* mean _child molesters / rapists_ are parallel with murderers. www.imdb.com/title/tt2072045 (watch trailer)
    Great talk!
    More space!

      Re: Difference between pedophilia and child molesters.
      - In popular usage, the word pedophilia is often applied to any sexual interest in children or the act of child sexual abuse.[4][5] This use *conflates* the sexual attraction (pedophilia) with the act of abuse (child molestation), *and* does not distinguish between attraction to _prepubescent_ and _pubescent_ or _post-pubescent_ minors.[6][7] *Researchers recommend that these imprecise uses be avoided* because although people who commit child sexual abuse sometimes exhibit the disorder,[5][8] many child sexual abuse offenders are not pedophiles,[6][9][10] and not all pedophiles molest children.[4][5][11][12]

    I really enjoyed that talk, thank you. An Open Question for anybody to answer .... Where does Eckhart Tolle and his teachings fit into Buddhism? Thanks

    • @Liamthegreat2008
      @Liamthegreat2008 9 лет назад

      Hi, bangtwister! For better or for worse, Tolle has a lot of different world views mixed up in his works, so it doesn't really 'fit in' anywhere. The New Age school is more about focusing on the teacher rather than the teachings, at any rate- look up Jiddu Krishnamurti and Ramana Maharshi, who inspired him (1). If you wish to practice buddhism, the lotus sutra reminds you that the 'life of the buddha' is a parable to help you reach enlightenment, so you won't find any such obsession here (2).
      As far as where the teachings of buddhism inspired Tolle, you're looking for Zen buddhism, a more popular branch in the west. The word Zen comes from the word Dhyāna in a roundabout way, so you can look up that concept and learn more about it, or you could look up the Three Marks of Existence, which I believe is the most important part of Zen doctrine, don't quote me on that.
      I wish your question was worded with a little more clarity so that I could answer it with more clarity. Remember that all teachings, even buddhism, are predated by something greater, simple introspection and logic, which are a part of everyone's brain. We all understand that sentient beings are similar (3), that we personally have free will (4), and that suffering or dis-ease is bad; therefore, with introspection, we develop a wish for sentient beings to avoid suffering and gain 'easiness' through our actions. For you atheists, this stands just as true as a logical exercise. For you psychopaths, acting in this fashion leads to the highest individual happiness in the brain. That is the truth that has been covered up with 10,000+ years of religion because most people think it's awfully inconvenient for you to see all sentient beings as one race.
      Love, us.
      (1) Upon re-reading, I wish to make it clear that I really like a lot of New Age philosophy, and that focusing on the teacher is the right thing to do sometimes, especially in cases like Maharshi.
      (2) Although with Brahms fans I wonder sometimes. He even sells books in his videos. It's all in good fun, as far as I can tell, but he is definitely going to have a million relics flying around thailand and australia as soon as his current body dies.
      (3) The social part of our brain drives us to understand others, and we can't help but do that through the lens of our own experience. Being both a social creature and a cognitive creature leads directly to empathy.
      (4) Even if no one else does, we can test and prove our own prohairesis to ourselves. Anyone who denies personal free will can test it out for themselves in the real world rather than just thinking about it, and inevitably come to the conclusion that they make moral choices.

    I have no intention to offend but I'm starting to notice an increase of ego in his videos making it difficult to properly understand his message to effectively cultivate mindfulness, love, and compassion. Ajahn Brahm you are awesome for using unorthodox yet down to earth methods to open peoples minds to awareness which inspires me to pursue a path into becoming monk and you continue to do so. Best wishes to you all. :)

      Yes you are right. It's not a fair speculation to make. By saying I have no Ego is ego itself.

      @user0987609876 9 лет назад +1

      I've noticed the same thing as well, but can't decide if Ajahn Brahm is being playful or is actually developing an ego. Even if the latter is true, he is just human. I'd rather he praise himself publicly and retain his honesty instead of pretending to be humble when he is in fact arrogant on the inside.
