Seeing a white peacock is supposed to bring luck and prosperity. The trail provides!

I’m pretty sure that was a Peahen (female of the Peacock). Probably an escaped domesticated bird.

That Peahen was definitely out of its natural habitat! They are tropical/ subtropical birds. Thy will come up to you down here in S Flarda. She was trying to find her family with that call. Too bad. But the species is Peafowl. A Peahen and Peacock, female and male. We have them all around us.

I volunteer at an animal sanctuary & we have albino peahens that wander around. Poor thing, it’s lost!

That was someone's pet albino peacock. He must have gotten spooked in the storm and got lost

She was definitely calling for other peacreatures. Rain and fog probably got her lost. She can't be too far from the flock.

White peacocks are rare, especially running across one in the middle of a trail. Symbols of Divine!

I just wanted to say Hi! You were the first person I met on the AT, 2/21/24 on Springer! I had to end my AT hike on 5/23 at Hog Camp Gap about mile 816. My balance/stamina aren’t what they were in my younger days and I have had numerous trip/falls (bad one going into Fontana Dam) including one on my final day of hiking so felt it was too dangerous to continue. But overall I had a great experience! I saw so many beautiful flowers and views and met so many wonderful people!! I would have liked to continue but it was just too dangerous. I hope you have a great hike and I see your Katahdin picture in the future!! Nice to have met you. Take care. TeaParty45

Tea Party!! I’m so happy to hear from you. I hope it isn’t creepy to say I’ve thought about you often on trail. Have been wondering how you are and where you were on your journey. I’m so happy you had an incredible 800 miles! Hope you aren’t too beat up from the falls. Thank you for commenting! I so appreciate it :) Last time I saw you was Neels Gap I believe - MILE 30!!! So crazy.

I am doing well. Yes, it was Neels Gap- I went to a friend’s home for a Zero and you guys were moving on. I look forward to following the rest of your hike to Katahdin! I’ll be rooting/praying for you! Teaparty

@jesshikestrails Hey Sassafras! My mom had a flock of about 45 peafowl on her farm in NC, both India Blues and Browns, and occasionally a white one would be born. This was most likely a Leucistic peahen (female) or a yery young adolescent Leucistic peacock (male) with immature tail plumage as true albino peafowl are very rare. Albinos have pink eyes, Luecistics have other eye color variations such as blue or green. The sound it was making is a call often used to locate other peafowl. It’s either lost or part of a nearby flock.

Sorry your tent leaked, but love your positive attitude . The bird you saw was a peacock, but that's the first white one I have seen. Hope you can get your tent resealed and stay dry.❤

That was like running into a unicorn on trail!!! And P.S…..my husband and I also had lunch at Hanging Rock overlook…and a pic with the 3 Ridges Wilderness sign! Great story about your white blaze full circle moment!

The sound the bird makes means there is no question that is an albino peacock (peahen does not have the trailing feathers) so totally an escaped domesticated bird. Peacocks sound like a crying baby.

Peacocks are very noisy birds. People use them as "watch dogs" because if something abnormal to their "area" happens, they squawk loud like that.
BTW, Too cool to have those A.T. memories! They were obviously good memories that got you onto the trail because your cheeks will hurt tomorrow from all the smiling!

Yep, that bird is the weirdest thing I've ever seen outside of a zoo or something. You just don't see birds like that in the woods. Also, I'm so disappointed with you about your tent. For the money BA charges, that shouldn't be happening. I hope you had a satisfactory resolution.
