And the Irish became the most sought-after cooks for all Terran expansion. With 400+ ways of making potatoes and ingrained knowledge of making potato alcohol... Gingers spread through humanities reach at a much higher rate than would be expected.
Though some were quickly banned on treks to planets with blazing suns due to several unfortunate cases of spontaneous combustion as pale skin proved to have it's dangers.
@@MagpiebardAnd when they simply were under anything that wasn’t fully opaque? They burned like vampires, leading people to believe the Irish were evil all along.
You're underestimating the Germans and Poles, to say nothing of the Japanese and Koreans.
Bud you had me at alcohol...hahaha🎉❤

Missed chance to call "The Spud Initiative" the "Spudnik Program"
Project space vodka
Controlled by Micro Chips
PPP. 🥔 power plants
A person harvests potatoes are spudlunkers.
I'll see myself out now.
So you want your Fries to go then ?
Whoever typed up the prompt for that first potato crop AI image doesn't seem to understand that they grow in the ground, with green leafs and stems being above ground. They certainly don't look like mini xenomorph eggs.
Potato eggs
Who cares? This whole story is a fiction
Eh its close enough lmao
It's an improved space potato. If it works it works.
To be fair, potatoes are the best thing ever, and space without potatoes isn't worth exploring.
I think they have done some tests on growing potatoes on aeroponics.
Potatoes can grow in some pretty crazy places already.
Am I the only one who thinks that the board sent Max to Mars to get him out of the way so that they could install someone else as CEO? Maybe a relative of a board member?
Irregardless, Max should have demanded a rework of his contract before he agreed to relocate. I'm sure that they could not have forced him without his consent. Maybe an ironclad agreement for continued employment at his current level for the entire ten year period and an additional five to ten years beyond. Double his current salary. Guarantee a board seat after the decade on Mars. Stock options. And no future relocation request/demand.
They expected he would quit.
Either way, the aon in law gets the job
Someone with experience dealing with corporations I see. They really are all the same in the end.
The reality of such a plant would be horrifying. Not least because it's essentially a super weed. Not just capable of growing anywhere, but also of changing the very planet on which it grows. And adapting to any environment rather quickly, it seems. If they can do that, they can quickly adapt and evolve to fill many niches. And in so doing, create unexpected forms. If not carefully controlled, something that seems miraculous in such ways at first could easily grow out of control and end up causing... issues...
Maybe I’ll use this for a terraform gone wrong!
@@RADIOHFY There's definitely some good bones for a story in that concept. And many ways to spin such a yarn.
Isn't it somewhat surprising that they didn't send Kudzu to Mars? That's one mighty invasive species!
someone was eating some bussin fries and said "yeah gotta make an entire hfy story bout potatos now"
lol something like that…
We were expanded through out the solar system and all of a sudden we’re going to the far reaches of the galaxy. I don’t think the writer realizes the size of the galaxy.
Good story, but that is NOT what the title makes you expect
Naw potatoes are death
The almighty Deity Al Gough Rythem requires, and sometimes alters, titles to be eye-grabbing and sometimes misleading.
We grow, accept and adapt. Glory to the MPP's. Fries for all!! Thanks for the story.
Potatoes were genetically modified by the Inca. They created thousands of types of Potatoes that could each grow in different climates and have different tastes. They had a large Agricultural research farm with different climates at each location in a small valley on a mountain
So why is this titled "Earthlings feel at home on every Deathworld..."? It seems like a story about a CEO's problems with producing a mutant potato.
As the Terran Federation prepared to embark on its most delicious missions yet...
"We've run into scorpions the size of battle tanks. Three men died from Eyerot last week and I've sweated enough to fill a lake. Emperor help me, I love this place, it's just like home!"
So the guy in charge of pushing the Spud Initiative had to have it all explained to him and his family when they got to Mars. Did he not know what he was promoting and why? Was his family so out of touch they were clueless as to why they were sent to Mars? Plot disconnect...in a major way.
even better, he was suppose to get there before they planted them....
Imagine he is likely sitting through a board meeting with some other clients. This is likely some presentation he has heard before.
Or how all the food the family would need was sent with them, but apparently Mars already grows enough food? And if so why is he even there?
Little House on the Martian Prairie. I like it! Very Laura Ingalls Wilder meets Rob Heinlein.
This is the best one I have seen. I have seen quite a few of these shows.
I would add genetically modified tomatoes, sugar beets and corn other than just potatoes. It's also possible that we would be growing spirulina algae as well. Not just for food but as a form of biodiesel. And all the leftover organic waste that we don't eat, again will be converted into fuel. Some of the more fibrous materials would be used in construction materials. As well as some of it will be fed to small insect creatures like crickets. The Crickets and some of the other organic waste would be combined and turn into freeze dried pellets to feed to small animals like partridges and chickens as well as fish. So you would have a pretty diverse diet up there in space. And a lot of those products that you produce would be traded and sold as currency along with regolith war.
where are all of the part 2s?
Mr. and Mrs. Potatohead go to Space! From my years abroad, first as just an employee and finally in supervisor/admin roles I knew about and eventually had to deal with the strains on families when they were separated from family and friends and were sometimes the only English speaking Americans around. The worst cases were couples who were having difficulties and thought that being alone abroad with more time for each other would solve the problems. I know of no case in which the problems did not get worse. [consider this a somewhat darker plot suggestion for consideration.]
As I am allergic to this member of the Nightshade family; I would starve to death with only spuds to grow. Cooked them for Mother and then went outside to try not to puke. The smell of frying spuds is truly nauseating.
I sit here chuckling as this story fails to resonate with a body that get massive headaches and puking; blended with 3 days of bed rest.
Being a potatoe lover once i heard that word i was locked in.😂😂😂😂😂😂
Mark Watney approved. 👨🚀👍
yes some of his potatoes must have mutated and survived🥔🥔🥔
This is NOT at all what I expected, nor is it the usual type of story I'd expect from HFY, ESPECIALLY when they talk about how Earthlings feel at home on every deathworld they find, lol.
That being said, it was a great story, reminded me of the pilgrims and early settlers who came to America, who sat for several months on cramped quarters at sea with the same thing to eat everyday, except many of them had WAY more than two kids, only to finally make land in America and find themselves in a strange new world with few of the comforts of home.
Also, I don't know who this narrator chick is, but keep her! She makes A.I. sound stupid, because she can actually put human emotion into words and phrases. I mean, I'm older, I don't like the colored hair, or the nose ring, or the lip ring, but she's got a face and voice made for radio.
I wouldn't go, but not for the reason you may be thinking. If they had called me to a meeting and asked if I and my family would go to Mars. I would be willing to consider it; but getting a notice and a decision made for me like this guy did, I would refuse even if it meant I would lose my job.
The small steps Mark Watney made lead a far distance into this stunning story
Ah, good observation but this was actually based on an article I read about Starcrete!
She does the "infomercial voice" way too well
Your infomercial voice is scary good Larissa. Bravo!
So its a family car trip to Idaho in space
When they say potatoes are use to build structures it remind me of Minecraft potato dimension update
The potatoes mutate and take over the colony.
They make Sarah the queen of Mars.
She starts singing, "Oh yah I'm the queen of Mars"
"I was invisible on earth"
"It only took the magic potatoes of Mars to give me some self-worth"
😂
😂
Hmm. Jupiter's radiation belts, its Galilean Moons and times for lethal radiation doses.

MPP, making Humanity safe from expanding across the stars without the magic of tater tots.
Never heard of the Irish famine, caused by a fungus killing all potatoes in the entire country?
Not gonna lie but seeing an human VA before the videos kills the vibe of the video
I have a love/hate with it as well, but in a world of AI it shows that you are actually listening to a human.
You had me at Potato
Ah yes, the benefits of monoculture...
Potatoes helps. Humans survive through famine? Potatoes caused a famine.
Space potato... warning, may taste like chicken !
Clearly written with the help of a chat bot. Not too bad though. Whoever wrote it would do well to add this into the initialization text: "As a writer remember: show, don't tell"
I got an add for space potato before gta 6
This inspired me to cook some potatoes!
And. Now I feel bad when I turned them to mash.
Ya... the story doesn't match the title, not even close
Agreed
Humans feel at home on every deathworld because there are potatoes.
Because no matter what thanks to the MPP they can bring home to any “deathworld”
Best AI reading bot I've heard in a while.
I'd almost believe she was a real girl
I know, it's head and shoulders above the rest!
😂😂😂
the Irish are coming!!! the Irish are coming!!!
So they' stepped out on the landscape, were they in a dome or wearing suits, or has it been terraformed enough to not need those?
Terraformed enough to support breathing. It would be like breathing on Everest though.
@@RADIOHFY I guess we can just assume they were spending the long journey to acclimatize themselves, lowering cabin pressure steadily on the 3 month flight. Like real mountain climbers on Everest stopping to camp and adjust at different altitudes.
Although, they'd still probably want air masks on, or like those little tubes old people use, just to help get the oxygen content they needed if they started to get light headed.
yes, I’m sure that was part of their conditioning, I’m also sure they would have been given some type of oxygen supply for when they are outside. It wouldn’t stop me from breathing the outside air if I knew I could. It’s mentioned later that currently the MPP is the only plant currently growing outside but they are close to being able to grow more. Hopefully we get enough likes and I can make a sequel!
I have you on Pause as I mumble to myself about something something something Dark Side, unpause ;)
I hope this ends the way I want it to,
I need some here. bugs got most of my potatoes this year.
Sadness, you can always get a 5 gal bucket and grow some inside for the Winter, hell you can use peelings or parts for it rather than a whole spud.
I'm a simple man, I see a potato, I click "Like".
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Good for the company.
Oh oh ... Fk the good for any company.
I feel clickbaited
🥔🥔🥔🥔🥔🥔 & 🌌🌌🌌🌌🌌🌌
As all things should be
I like taters
Get down with MPP ya you know me
Mmmmm,….. space taters.
Is potato🥔
Title and thumbnail feel very bait and switch from what this story actually was 😅
Still not a bad story, but yeah, title doesn't really fit the theme of the story.
I was given the prompt and thought, What makes a deathworld and why would humanity feel at home on every one.... Gotta be something food. What would you know there are recent articles about scientists using potato starches to create StarCrete. Sounds like I'm writing a potato story!
What happened to the white guy narrator I haven't seen one of his in a while
I'm here, mostly writing and proofreading lol.
@@GuardbrosFieldRadio Good to hear! You should narrate a story from time to time.
Blatant AI now, sucks for the VAs
by the gods, this was boring af. You guys usually pick out some good stories but the entire time I felt like those kids waiting to get done with the containment protocol... and it never ended.
your title is not so great try something more relavant to the actual story
Propaganda from Potatoes USA!
Narrator, The 't' in often is silent.
@@guardbrosfielddesk Yes, it is. It has only become a SECONDARY pronunciation in the last 30 - 40 years. As the legendary George Carlin said about such things 'It's secondary for a reason."
@@guardbrosfielddesk Off Ten what? And why would you pronounce a 'th' that is not there?
You're correct though, you should stay on the short bus.
@@hazcat640 It all really boils down to dialects and accents based on the region. There are places which puts more emphasis enunciation of the syllables and how they were taught. Some places where they omit the T sounds sometimes makes them sound more British. "Id's wo-ah, inni'h?"
@@Piemur1 No, it doesn't. Just because the NE likes to put extra r in words does not make it correct. In Pgh were I grew up many (most) say 'yins' instead of you. That does not make it acceptable for formal use.
@@hazcat640 Sure, I was saying in certain situations and certain places omitting a sound can make the words sound more of a certain accent, was the intent of my reply there.
