NB! Chord 3 is actually A minor (not G) - sorry for the typing error. It’s at 8:28 Thank you SO much to @gerarzzzz1978 for spotting the mistake ❤.

The first time I was told I have perfect pitch was when I had my first clarinet lesson at age 9, this was after I’d been playing piano for 3-4 years already, and in the first clarinet lesson, I was told to play the middle C on the staff, which came out as the Bb that you’d expect from a Bb clarinet. I looked straight at my teacher and told her, this clarinet is out of tune! It’s a Bb not a C! And that’s when I learned both that I had perfect pitch and also what a transposing instrument was.
Thanks for the video, good stuff!

    An exciting test!
I think I almost got it right.

I do not have perfect pitch yet I was able to identify all the pieces and notes. This is through the help of PITCH MEMORY and RELATIVE PITCH

Very good exercise for all of us, I couldn't get the chord exercises to be too correct, but nonetheless, this was fun! 😄

I learned from my Dad that I have perfect pitch, most likely because of the fact that when instrumental music would play on movies like The Incredibles as well as video games, I would hum along to them and I would do it perfectly. Also, when I hear a single note, I can just name it right off the bat with ease. Also, when I hear the notes C, E, and G played together or in a sequence, that's when I know it's C major. It may be a rare ability, but if you have it, you gotta make the most of it.

Lots of fun! The first section was 90% for me, but the second section was funny! I often was just close and could find the note quickly if exploring the keys, but no perfect pitch here. Strong relative pitch and has gotten stronger actually with teaching online! Great fun.

It was fun to think about and make. I made it for a friend I have where I play for functions regularly who has never played an instrument. She always knows when I play in f major. She didn’t know what f major is but we worked out her favourite song is in that key and so as soon as she hears another piece in f major she tells me! Isn’t that funny! It made me wonder if she would have perfect pitch if she knew the notes names/ sounds. F is stored in her brain anyway!!!

Hhehehe interesting video!!! I have perfect pitch 🤣 but very very very gradually, I find my pitch detection to be out at times recently.
For example, I thought the note is Ab when it's A 😂 oh wellll

I got them all apart from that one low D note. But I was watching from a phone so I guess that makes it harder. My music teacher said that she thinks I had perfect pitch today so I had to test it out and it seems like she is right

Yayyy, I got all of them correct! This was a really fun test. I'm not sure if I'm a natural though cause I sort of developed perfect pitch during lockdown. I distinctly remember a time when I couldn't name any note. But then I started remembering what each note sounds like and associating them with the beginning of a song till eventually it naturally came to me and I no longer needed the references. Does that mean I have true perfect pitch? Well either way I have a fun story to share...
My teacher was testing me on intervals a couple months back. Then she decided to test me by giving me a minor sixth. We had never done a minor sixth before and I was unfamiliar with it. So eventually I decided to go to the last resort and perfect pitched to find out it's an A and F and used my theory to figure out it was a minor sixth haha. Then I wanted to check if I was right about the individual notes and I was! Unfortunately my teacher didn't get hyped up about the prospect I might have perfect pitch 😅

This is actually my exact same story! I started to practice memorizing pitches during lockdown too so it comes naturally.

I got all of part 1 correct but was pretty much a failure at part 2… what does that mean? 😂 should I study the note names and sounds together to perfect my pitch perfection 🤔 I never thought to try and memorize what C or E sound like… for part 1 I could tell if they were wrong or right because the timbre of the piano sounded off. I wonder if I still would have been able to tell if it had been played on a simple synthesizer sound like a square wave that sounds more uniform up and down the various scales

All of part 1 correct. That means I have a seasoned ear for music, but not perfect pitch.

    • @PianoAngelicus
      @PianoAngelicus  Год назад +1

You’re definitely right that it’s much easier to tell if a piece is in its correct key although some of the extracts were only a semi tone different so definitely a very musical ear if people identified correctly. I think I said ‘may’ have perfect pitch which is true. I have a friend who has no musical experience but I’ve discovered she can recognise keys with no reference. She doesn’t know what ‘keys’ are or even the more names but identifies the ‘sound world ’ by linking it it to being the same sounds as a song she knows in the same key. It’s really fascinating and I’ll explore more and report back with a video. It makes you wonder how many people have PP who never play an instrument!! Thanks for watching and for the great comment ❤

@@PianoAngelicus Also, I suppose part 1 would also be used to determine whether someone is a good sight reader or a good player by ear. Maybe a basis for a similar test, Louise?
