    Honestly, it was hard to believe that a professional and talented artist such as yourself struggled with being too hard on yourself. Thank you for opening up and sharing that. In a weird way it's "helpful" to know that even talented artists like yourself struggle too. We are all human and just trying to live our lives the best we can and as authentically as we can.
    I can't tell you often I go directly to your channel for inspiration on my hand lettering and new art journey that I began about 1 year ago. I rewatch your videos ALL THE TIME. Lol! I love your channel the most. Your handwriting, your use of color, your quotes, the pieces of art you make AND your kindness and warmth, as well. I can only dream of being half as good as you are one day and the things you shared from the recent books you read was so inspiring and insightful. Amazing.
    Your art is so beautiful and your videos are so helpful and you're also a wonderful teacher. I can't wait to buy your book on Amazon and I already know I'm going to love it and get a lot out of it!
    Thank you again, you make a big difference in many of our lives and on our art journeys by posting here on RUclips. ❤

      @@EnsignInsights 💗 thank you, Sarah! I haven’t been posting much recently. I think my pieces of art are taking a while to make, and I’m transitioning into a phase where many of my pieces of artwork no longer have any lettering (they’re basically just watercolor). So I haven’t been making IG posts as frequently. I might make RUclips videos of sketchbook flip throughs because I like that format. I wonder if it’s a little bit like watching someone read a picture book! Anyway, hope things in the PNW are going well this summer and that your family is well!

      I would LOVE to see your sketchbook flip throughs on RUclips!! I’ve been searching for more videos like that and I already know I love your art so I want to see it all! I hope your health is continuing to improve little by little! By the way, we moved from the PNW and now live in southern Utah! My husband decided to leave his career and go back to medical school! A lot of changes over here which is another reason I just can’t manage instagram right now. 😅

    Your journal is beautiful! 🌈 It’s wonderful you’re sharing it here and also sharing the process of how to create our own journals so others can benefit from your insights. I started art journaling a few years when my only kid went off to college, and now I want to learn lettering to add more beautiful quotes to my pages. I just found you recently and have learned so much from you already…and spent way too much buying pens you’ve reviewed! 😂 Sending you heaps of gratitude for all your hard work making these amazing videos! Thank you, Sarah!
    (I had to smile when I saw the words from a kids song on the pages of your journal!)

      Yes!! I'm so glad you love journaling and are starting to add quotes! Isn't it the best? Thank you for being here and letting me know! (Haha, I letter what's on my mind and you know with a two-year old, it's often children's songs!)

    Thank you for sharing the beauty and process of your journal. It takes a lot of courage to put yourself out there! Especially something as intimate as your thoughts and insecurities.
    I am in a process of re-evaluating social media in my life.
    As you mentioned, there are so many GOOD things, people, and ideas that inspire me. (YOU, for instance!🤗) But that comparison game is no joke. It'll rip your happiness and confidence away in a click if you aren't ready for it. It's almost like you have to steel yourself against yourself and mount up so that you don't let self-sabotage creep in. We are our worst enemies.
    Anyway, I think you're great. You inspire me to "love what I do and how I do it.' 💕🥰 xoxo -Marisa

    • @EnsignInsights
      @EnsignInsights  Год назад +1

      Thank you for sharing that Marisa! Your thoughts on social media are exactly how I felt! Even though I knew what was happening, you can't stop that comparing monster from creeping in! It's good to learn how to fight against that monster, but also, it's ok to just block it out altogether. I hope you find peace in whatever you decide to do! I will probably go back to instagram eventually, but for now, I feel so creative and I love my life without it!

    Love this post. Thank you so much for sharing. Advice please on the best way to start lettering. Is it to practice the basic strokes until you are efficient in them then use them to play?

    • @EnsignInsights
      @EnsignInsights  Год назад +1

      Ooh that's a great question!! I should make a video on this soon! In my opinion, it comes down to what makes you excited to practice! You should definitely learn the basic strokes to start, but when I first started, I had no interest in practicing the basic strokes. I just wanted to practice letters and words. Practicing something is better than nothing. If you want a really consistent style like learning one specific font, then you probably want to practice your basic strokes over and over to get them perfectly. If you like all kinds of styles, start exploring styles right from the start. The main point of practicing the basic strokes is to get comfortable with downstrokes and upstrokes and they're an easy way to start. But you can feel comfortable using your pen by practicing words and letters too. That's a long explanation to say, practice what sounds most exciting to you!

  • @zylalena
    @zylalena Год назад

    I realize you don't really answer any of your comments but if you happen to see this PLEASE answer! If there was an emergency and you could only bring a couple lettering pens what would they be? I just started hand lettering and don't have a lot of supplies but I'm on a tight budget and want to know the pens you absolutely couldn't live without, even if they are a bit pricey! I would like to make the investment now, instead of trying a bunch and spending money I don't have to! Thanks so much!

    • @EnsignInsights
      @EnsignInsights  Год назад +2

      Hey! That's a great question! So I was actually evacuated because of a wildfire and I had to choose which pens (I have a video about it, I ended up throwing them all in backpacks...) That experience totally changed how I feel about pens! One thing I'll say is that you need to explore a little, you need to know what kind of pen you like, hard or soft tip, large or small. I have a video with all types and my favorites here: ruclips.net/video/NN8nWjp_ETA/видео.html
      My favorite brush pens have changed over the years. The most expensive that I'll love forever are Karin Markers. They are a firm tip, they last long, and they can be used as watercolor. My current favorite large brush pens are Zebra Mildliner brush pens. I recently did a review video about them. I highly recommend them! They are great colors and also have a fine tip. As for small brush pens, my favorites are Pentel Touch brush pens. And then if you just want to get started with some good but cheap pens, crayola markers are still some of my favorite!
