GINA CARANO brought the spot light to womens' MMA not Ronda
Ronda played a big part in it as well.
Shawn Sandhu Strikeforce brought WMMA "into the spotlight". Before Gina Carano, no one even knew women fought profesionally. The UFC capitalized on Ronda Rousey's magnetic crossover appeal, but they certainly didn't discover America so to speak, when it comes to WMMA.
Ivan Salazar Gina opened the door. Cyborg tried to close it. Ronda re-opened it and made it mainstream.

No she didn't. She just happened to be the most popular and high-profile because she fought in EliteXC, which was shown on CBS and Showtime. Ronda was on such a hot winning streak that she became impossible to ignore so the UFC brought her into the fold and she immediately began setting UFC PPV records, which helped solidify women's MMA in the world's top organization.

Hate to say it but that is the difference between males and females when it comes to fighting. Guys will beat the shit out of each other and then be best friends after, as to where girls will hold a grudge forever. I like her, but um no. Cyborg and Gina Carano paved the way for women's MMA, Rousey included. Their fight was the first televised female main event in a major MMA organization. I can't stand how people have the misconception that if it didn't happen in the UFC, then it doesn't count.

seeing her talk to the little ones, you can see how cool the sport could be. I've seen so many female gymnasts and cheerleaders who could be good fighters. I don't necessarily agree with the sport, but it gives some people a chance to make a name for themselves.
She looks like such a sweet girl, and yet she can kick my ass. I am impressed.

The thing about this little cutie pie is she seems to really love fighting to win which makes it very enjoyable to watch. She may not be the best but she is hungry and I think more physically strong than people give her credit for.

I think she'll go pretty far, may not have the skills honed down yet like some of the veterans but if you watch her fights this girl has a chin of steel. She's been kicked, punched, kneed and elbowed in the face and not even flinched. That's going to be her strong suit against the more experienced fighters.

I am 12 started boxing at 8 and when i am older i know that if i am in the ufc i will be like rondas weight i just wish i was born earlier grrrrrr mummm.but then i realised that i have got so much time to practise and my coaches say i punch better than most the boys at boxing and if i keep going i will be in the ufc i just cant imagine myself going to work everyday at a clothes shop or something to pay bills or rent i wanna be like ronda or paige 💪

if there is any athlette in the world that I would like to know personaly it would be this girl , she is so positive and nice.
2:55. That bar is 50kg and she throws it up without breaking a sweat. The weight is impressive when you think that she herself weighs 52KG (115 pounds) and she is a fighter not a weightlifter. I don't know many gym regulars who can lift their own body weight that easily.
I hear a lot of average Joes thinking they could take a female MMA fighter, when you factor in that Vanzant could probably lift between 150 to 170 pounds and can convert that into punching power, her small wirey frame and her fighting knowledge she would literally eat any guy alive.
I'm not retarded, I'm an actual MMA fighter, not some tubber who watches UFC and she would destroy you or anyone else who didn't train in MMA. Most people who train in MMA would practice 4 to 5 hours a week. She most lightly spends 4 or 5 hours a day training. Techique is more important than mass in every asset of MMA, technique comes from constant practice and repetition. You completely uneducated fool...

Time will show us what she's capable of. I never thought Dilishaw would completely school Barow (even though I was a fan of his since TUF). PVZ is training with a champion at an incredible gym...and she doesn't come with the usual dim & grim aura that most female fighters do. Let's just enjoy the ride and see what happens.
***** I don't think it's as based on looks as you suggest. It's a sport...if PVZ can't perform her career will be fairly short. That said, the world in general loves a pretty face so it's not surprising her fan base is building quickly. Rose is also a pretty fighter but she doesn't have the same compelling story and certainly doesn't project the same positive vibe. A lot of PVZ's promotion is obviously local which is a hurdle for Joanna. That said, Joanna's last fight was incredible and i look forward to seeing her first defense.
***** I won't dispute that - but we all know life isn't necessarily fair. Attractive people make more on average than their less attractive peers. UFC is a business and they're building out the women's divisions so a pretty face to represent the new division is tactical. In a way, pvz's attention will help those other more accomplished fighters get some spotlight. They might have to work a little harder for followers but spectacular fights are what we watch for...no belt is won with looks after all.
