I don't think there is too much room to speculate on this topic. Peter is pretty much clear about it: "for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit." 2Peter 1:21 Moses was not only a man of war; he was a man educated on all the Egyptian wisdom and skills. When he fled to Madian; he spent 40 years being prepared by the Lord for his next endeavor, but it's obvious that while the Lord was preparing him; he was also writing the book of Genesis under the guidance of the HS. The other option is that as soon as Israel was getting organized after flying Egypt, Moses selected a good team of Scribes and he himself dictated them the book of Genesis and the rest of the Torah.
I believe I have red that moses would go out to the first tabernacle in the evening and would talk with God as man to man.Maybe,God told him.Also on the mountain fo 40 days and nights as in one comment.
