Eyes on Fire -- I hope you have been able to find a neurologist whom you are comfortable in speaking-with.. Regards, Stuart Schlossman - stuart@msvn.org
This is a late reply, and don't take this as me speaking for Dr. Boster. Dr. Boster has a RUclips channel dedicated to MS learning. I have seen videos where he expresses his opinion on this subject so I believe I can answer your question. Lemtrada is the more efficacious treatment, and is considered to be among the best available disease modifying therapies. It is up there in the 'top 3'; Natalizumab (Tysabri), Ocrelizumab (Ocrevus), and Alemtuzumab (Lemtrada). All of these medications are 'monoclonal antibodies' taken by IV infusion. Gilenya, while maybe right for you, is not considered as efficacious as one of the monoclonal antibodies. As Dr. Boster would say, this is not medical advice, and your friend needs to have the conversation with their doctor.
Is MS ever 'cured'.? I hadmy neurologist tell me to stop tecfidera because my situation had stabilize and I didn't need it anymore. As soon as I stopped my condition got markedly worse. I fired that doctor and I have had no coverage for 2 years and it sacks when doctors ask what are you complaining about, you look great. This was a great video
