For anyone looking for a horror movie to watch, I suggest "Hereditary". It has a few jumpscares but the whole movie just has this weird, uncomfortable feeling. Like, you know when you wake up in the middle of the night and there's weird movies playing on channels? That's how it feels to watch it. Very unsettling.
I watched It 2 in the cinema with my best friend and I kept talking the whole time and trying to make funny comments so in the end it wasn't that scary XD

I watched it with my friends hoping that i'll get through without crying but no haha i cried. It's VERY VERY SCARY. Don't watch it if you can't handle movies like that. One of the best scary movies i've seen so far

honestly Gongjiam was the scariest movie I've ever seen. I've watched it 3 times and I get TERRIFIED each time, so thanks for starting with that one and not having a warning, I almost had a heart attack xD
I don't actually like jumpscares lol the jumpscare expedient doesn't even mean that the movie is "scary", but of course if something jumps in front of you suddenly or you hear a sudden loud noise your body will react
The Ring actually originated from Japan, it was adapted by Hollywood. So I think this does not count as from the West. Jingkyu is like a boy in a man's body, the way he covers his face is funny.
The adaptation is definitely from the west though. Ring as well as Juon have a very different feel in the american versions. Compared to the japanese versions, the level of psychological horror is toned down by a lot. While there can also be a lot of psychological horror in western movies, eastern movies excel in psychological horror. I also think that this makes horror movies that focus on the natural instead of the supernatural way better in east asia. I wish they'd had a look at a recent korean series called "Hell Is Other People" which in my opinion is a really good example of a korean series that does psychological horror well.
I love watching scary videos by myself and at scary times like 3am. Doesn't help my case that my housemates are often gone so I'm left paranoid all alone but the thrill factor really gets you going

As a Chinese person myself they're kind of the same as American ones there's really no difference but instead they just put a little East Asian cultural monsters inside the scary moives
@@Maymay-c That's not really true. The problem with a lot of western horror is more how they actually do the horror elements. Especially in Hollywood where the goal is to get as much widespread reach as possible so they focus too much on making uninspired jump scares and very little subtlety. Obviously there are some exclusions but for the majority of western horror it's all very samey. Films without Hollywood producers breathing down the film maker's necks are the ones that usually stand out. A great example is Kairo and it's American remake Pulse. The original is genuinely creepy and unsettling that fully embraces letting a scene be creepy by itself and using a lot of quiet and subtle imagery to set it's atmosphere. The remake interoperates that as "what if instead it was a bald ghostly man spider who jumps out of things to scare people?"
I loved this! I love how involved they were with the korean films and you can see the unique perspectives of what each culture finds "scary". There has to be some neat psychology to go with it.
