- In honor of the remake of Mulan that is being released this year Christina Aguilera has recorded two brand new tracks for the soundtrack. They include a new recording of "Reflection" and the song we are talking about today entitled "Loyal Brave True"

I'm Chinese and I dont's see Chinese having problem with Christina singing it. This music video was trending in China Weibo after it's released. For China market, we have another version of Reflection sung by the Chinese actress who plays as Mulan in this movie. I actually like they adding new music to the new series of live-action movies, otherwise only keeping the old music from the cartoon will be boring for me.

Loyal Brave and True is the prelude to Reflection. A song that will prepare to the highlight of the movie and a full circle moment for Christina. Xtina will showcase a soundtract for the Global Community as well as the Spanish Community. For Chinese community, Liu Yifei will sing the Chinese version of Reflection. For Filipino Community, Diney Philippines announced that a Pinoy Artist, Moira dela Torre will do her new rendition of the song. This is part of Disney's Marketing Strategy and Promotion to support the movie and its soundtracks. The song Reflection sealed a title for Xtina as a ''Disney Legend''... the song is also her breakthrough performance to capture her 1st record deal, 20 years ago. This 2020 is a celebratory moment for her 20 years of Reflection and her career. The world needs to stop from normalcy for us to gaze this new version of the song.

I was speaking to a chinese friend about the movie and he had no problem with Xtina singing the song but felt uncomfortable watching the chinese actors speaking english. It reminded me of how I felt watching Coco as a Mexican and at first finding it odd.
Yeah I kinda get that. As a Russian as much as I enjoy Keira Knightley's movies for instance it's really weird for me to watch her as Anna Karenina speaking English :]

Well honestly, the "remake" is actually a new story. It's based on the original Mulan story and not on the animated Disney movie.

I felt the same way about "Mulan" being live-action...and then i saw the trailer and was HOOKED, mainly because its not the carbon copy of the animated film. Looks more based in reality....
And i LOVE the song...not necessarily the music video.

Careful the outrage mob doesn't crucify you for saying we don't need the new live-action remake of this. I only say that because I just read an absurd article from vulture saying that having Christina sing this song while the foreign letters spell out the words loyal Brave and true, along with her outfit for some reason, are being likened to cultural appropriation. Apparently because of the kind of movie it is, "a white woman" shouldn't be singing this song for the film.
But apparently this is where we're at. I'm not surprised. I think the song is brilliant and I think the visuals for the the music video are stunning and she looks amazing and for my part I don't see anything about her outfit that can even be considered as cultural appropriation. But what do I know, that's just me.

Totally understandable Sal. Not mad about the song, it's an ok song just like the one she did for the addams family, I guess they make it more about the theme for the movie. But video wise, they can do more than just her act in front of a greenscreen, the pandemi is not an excuse because a lot of artists have done decent MV recently.
