Loved this conversation! TikTok has changed my life as an author and I'm a huge advocate for authors giving it a try and seeing how it can benefit them!

Yay!!! 45 minutes in I’m the one Jayne is talking about for the character Tiktok! It’s still viral! Sold a lot of cozy mystery with it! Highly recommend their class.

Jayne, I was a little blow away when I realized that the TikTok expert was a fellow MMF author. You got me! I signed up for the class. I guess we'll meet on the 17th. 🙂

MMF for the win! I'm going to check out your books right now. One thing we didn't even touch on in this interview was how TikTok gives spicy romance authors opportunities they don't always get on other platforms. I'm glad you were able to find us since we changed our name to TikTok Sells books! I look forward to seeing you in class and brainstorming ways to help you translate your brand into a winning content strategy on TikTok.

@@JayneRylonBooks Thanks, Jayne. MMF for the win! I have about 16 MMF romances and a couple of audiobooks and I'm really looking forward to working with a successful platform. I've been using RUclips to sell books for years and I may as well be handing out church pamphlets on a street corner.

Here's my issue with TikTok: trolls. People on the site can be NASTY, way worst than Facebook or RUclips. They report accounts, leave horrible comments, and follow people to their other sites to harrass them. I have created some content there (not for my fiction), and it's easy to build a following. But I decided that I wasn't willing to risk my business, specifically my Amazon KDP account, to build a following there. I'm missing out, I know; but I've seen so many other creators have to deal with so much crap that it's just not worth it to me.

I love TIKTOK! Thank you for this. I'm going to work to be more spontaneous on there it is tough for someone used to futzing about hair and makeup all the time.

Great listen. I'm been thinking about TikTok for a while so this was helpful. Signed up just now, and as you said, the geography thing is weird (until I start following things, I guess). Being in Tallinn, all the videos showing were only in Estonian, even though I'd just told them my interested (which were listed in English)... let's see what happens. I'll be at the webinar, albeit a little late here by then.

I don't think I can post a link here without my comment being hidden but do some google searches. There are articles with two methods I've heard of people using to escape being shown primarily in their local area. VPNs with limited success, and using a US SIM card (assuming you want to target the US market).

I listened to this podcast and then signed up for your site. I signed up with a specific email address and somehow it took a different email address, added a profile pic which I didn't authorize. I went to the contact page and there is no indication of who I'm supposed to contact. I'm not impressed and I don't want you having my other email address on file. How do I cancel the account?

thanks for this, I'm nauseated when I open Tiktok until I can navigate to the ones I'm following. I created 3 animated videos and was going to give up but thanks to this I did another one tonight. I'll trust it's not all horrific and keep looking for the good things. Maybe I'm just not looking hard enough.

To train the algorithm to show you only what you're interested in, follow people you enjoy and interact with booktok content. Then if you see something you don't like, use the bottom right button (it's appearance changes but it's under the comment button) and select the broken heart that says "not interested". Do this enough and Tiktok should quickly learn to serve you your ideal content. Good luck with your videos.
