We were looking forward to spend Chinese New Year 2024 in Batam, Indonesia, soak in a local culture, so instead of booking a family resort in a touristy area - we booked a nice looking hotel near the Harbour Bay Batam. That was a mistake. See what happened for yourselves...

We are a family that likes to travel and discover new things. Sometimes expectations don't align with reality at all, like this time round. From service, to amenities, to availability of food, to quality of food, to delayed ferry...we struggled to find any good about this trip...well, massage was good, so thanks for that.

Our view is subjective, we don't mean to offend anyone, but sharing our experience might help us to accept unfortunate vacation, and it was so bad that I even found it funny. Not the kind of funny we enjoy, rather ridiculous kind of funny.
For a first-timer, it might be better to go with a tour group. Also, your trip during CNY might be a wrong timing, many shops are closed, similar to Singapore. It's okay, we live and learn. Better luck next time, and I do hope you enjoy your Langkawi trip ❣

What are the good places worth visiting in Batam?
@@ExploringTogetherJourneys I live in Batam for the last 25 years, People come here to relax in resorts, fresh seafood, and spa. Three things that you can get it for reasonable price compared to Singapore.
Historical place you can visit Tua Pek Kong Temple, Vihara Maitreya ( the biggest Buddhist temple in South East Asia) Galang Island where the Vietnam refugees were staying years ago.
Everything here has its own story, yet i think some people won't be interested. So, if you look for good place worth visiting, don't come here. Go to Lombok, Raja Ampat, Yogyakarta, Malang, Bandung, and hundreds of other parts of Indonesia.
fyi, I bring many friends and colleagues from other parts of the world and they never said Batam is worst place, They all love it. I am sorry you didn't have good times here. But i feel offended if you said Batam is the worst.
Yeah, we went to resort places in Batam, Bintan, Bali. For this trip we didn’t want a resort tailored to the tourists like us. Instead, we wanted to soak in a normal Batam’s life, to find out how do local people live.
Yeah, didn't seem to visit the right places besides wrong timing during CNY! Also Not sure if you have done some researches before the trip? Some nice places/ hotels for future visit such as near Barelang Bridge 1, you can stay at Harris Hotel Barelang and enjoy fresh seafoods at Kelong seafood (well appreciated by Singaporean!). If you are foodies and would like to stay around the city, get closer to Nagoya areas; you can go to Nagoya Thamrin City, Pasar Penuin, and Grand Batam Mall. If you appreciate quiet resort areas, you can go to Nongsa. Better luck for future trips to Batam!!!
We have stayed at Nongsa and Turi before - loved it there. This time we wanted to explore different side of Batam and I guess we did haha

You have visited all the wrong place including staying in the wrong hotel. I think you should find some recommendations of where to go before you plan your trip, cuz it feels really terribad after hearing your experience.

Go only to most expensive resort hotel then you find out BATAM is really top !
