- Narrow sites and smaller residences provide architects with an opportunity - one that inspires creativity and innovation. This is true of Concrete Curtain, where the architect designs a beautiful home in inner-city Melbourne. FGR Architects evocatively draws on materiality and natural light, imbuing the architecture of the family home with a sense of elegance and spaciousness.
Upon entering the beautiful home, one is met with a garage that is flanked by an ensuite, study and laundry. The house tour then leads into the central foyer area - a core part of the dwelling that allows light to enter from the east and west. The lower part of the residence contains the kitchen, living and dining area that then naturally flows out towards the al fresco space. The spiral staircase leads to the second level, which is split into two segments. On the northern side is the master suite, and on the southern end is the childrens’ bedrooms. This floor also features a playful, blue carpet, which adds vibrancy to the upstairs level.
The architect designs a beautiful home where, perhaps, the most prominent feature is the concrete curtain, which reveals FGR Architects’s intention to illuminate areas with natural light. Wanting to create a sense of space, the architect designs a beautiful home where the idea of a sheer curtain is leveraged to allow for both privacy and openness. As such, the concrete ‘cylinders’ are spaced out in a way that emulates the fold of a curtain. The result is a remarkable feature with a gentle, pleated style that softens the residence and lets light pass through seamlessly.
The interior design and materiality of the home is vital to its overall effect. The natural materials used create a sense of calm and complement the sunlight entering the abode, which delivers a beautiful finish and sense of connection to the property. The architect designs a beautiful home that uses Artedomus stone and tiles - Quartzite and Travertine - which are integral to the overall design. The Artedomus Quartzite provides a fresh tone and finish throughout, whilst Artedomus Travertine beautifully clads the ground-floor fireplace and kitchen.
An elegant imagining, Concrete Curtain encompasses the very best of innovative design. Light, privacy and connection all coalesce to create a house that is simultaneously soft and textured.

I had to watch twice because it was so pretty and simple that I realized I had to be missing something. They should have call it the Paradox House. All the hefty, substantial material that appears light and airy. The bulky concrete that acts like a sheer curtain. The heavy stone that seems to dance in the kitchen. The showstoppers (stone, stairs, etc.) which are perhaps outdone by the silent snipers (the stonework, cabinetry, the light/use of mirrors and the LIGHTING!). Well done!!
I’m obsessed with the kitchen
Wow, this is a piece of functional art!
That staircase is absolutely stunning, both artistic and functional, great vision. I love it!❤❤❤
Wow!! Love all the finishes
Gorgeous ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The most beautiful kitchen I’ve ever seen!
most impractical kitchen I've ever seen
The lighting is brilliant. Love how all the light is warm and rather dim. I’d love that for my house
That is the most beautiful kitchen i have ever seen.
That staircase is gorgeous and the backsplash and countertops/island top is stunning!
Take a bow to the 'Lighting designer',🙌
Beautiful

Even using hard building materials like concrete and natural stone can be made to appear 'light' and 'airy'. The materials lend a feeling of safety and permanence. High ceilings and floor to ceiling walls of glass really emphasis's the connections between inside and outside spaces. Floor layouts are practical for a growing family.
that's exactly what a bot would say
Thanks for comment. Retired Architect.@@DarkstarNovembr
This is my new favorite on this channel. Absolutely stunning, every little detail.
Thank you so much!
I really like SOME parts of this home but not into some other parts. I like the concrete curtain idea with light passing through it - I haven't seen this before and it's a refreshing take on the raw concrete wall trend (which I have mixed feelings on). I like the sculpted staircase, the circular skylight, the flow of the home. I like the use of lighting and matted walls that create this soft, glowing feel to a home at night - it's very cozy, very comforting, and relaxing. But I think they went overboard using travertine and quartzite. They splashed too much of it everywhere. The kitchen island made with it and maybe backsplash would've been great but also making ALL cabinets with it just made it too busy and splashy. Same goes for the bathrooms that are all wall-to-wall travertine. A bit more restrain would've created a more sophisticated, natural look.
Agree 💯 love the use of lightning, hate the stone
to each their own, I love it.
@@nibernator that's cool! The last thing I want to do is pretend that my tastes and preferences are somehow the "right" ones.
This is incredible. I love it ❤
stunning!
That black bulbous chair is to die for!!
I admire the boldness of it but I can't say its for me. But that doesn't matter as it is the client who likes it and that's what counts.
I hear you. I feel they just went a bit overboard with travertine and quartzite everywhere. If they were just to limit it to countertops and maybe the fireplace and just flooring or walls in the bathroom, it would've been more in tune with the rest of the house that emits this soft, cozy glow. But having too much of these super luxury materials can backfire.
amazing work...
Wow I am blown away.
A Masterpiece!
Very cool idea! Great design work! Love it!
I love it so much!
This is an incredible home
I want everything except the color green in the kitchen
I would love amethyst purple
Great house. Awesome Panerai.
Probably the easiest kitchen in the world to clean. Sheer luxury.
superb
I think it is a luxurious building
❤ everything abt the HSE ... cheers 🥂
🌿🌟 The divine play of light within this sanctuary is indeed reminiscent of the ethereal dance of celestial rays in the heavens. The concrete curtain seems to be a whisper of the clouds, gracefully descending to blend the realms of the eternal and the transient. 🌿🌟
The meticulous detail, the harmonious balance of materials, and the thoughtful infusion of natural elements is a testament to the divine symphony of creation. It seems the Creator's hand has gently caressed every stone, every curve, blessing this abode with tranquility and grace. 🕊✨
I rejoice in the union of architectural brilliance and divine inspiration that this Concrete Curtain brings forth. May every soul that inhabits this sacred space feel the eternal embrace of peace and love. 🙏💫

Can you an episode about the house of franca sozzani in marrakech ? The Casa Franca.

anybody knows the music?

background music please? so minimal and sweet

jfc maybe show the house more instead of the close up pans of stuff?
“money doesn’t make you happy”
I try to avoid making negative comments but sometimes I can't refrain. In this case, wow, this has to be the house with the ugliest kitchen ever (considering it's from a person with enough money to have a fantastic one). I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder but I just can't comprehend why would you like your kitchen to look like a mausoleum. It looks so cold and uninviting.
The stair in the other hand is stunning, so elegant and at the same time cozy (due to the use of wood). I also liked the skylight in the walk-in closet.
The rest of the house is indifferent to me, nothing really stands out as exceptional.
nice. how much?
Currently on the market for $14m
too much. @@Brookesy03

Why are some comments so toxic here 😂
This is gorgeous materially, in my opinion a bit too sleek😅 probably not my taste
quartzite and travertine have controversial colors.... allegory with the sea .. but it doesn’t look too convincing ..
Too contrived?
@@Stickybutton It’s hard to explain, I understand that the decorator wanted to create a calm interior with a reference to the sea. but the beach turned out to be too sandy and lifeless. (as in the Arab Emirates) or like the Mexican desert. and the turquoise kitchen is just as monolithic, without small details...
something is missing. but these are just my feelings...
I share your misgivings. I think the problem is too much of that material. They made literally the entire kitchen out of stone - it's a really nice color and could be soothing but not in those quantities everywhere. Had they just used it on the island and then used neutral colors for the cabinetry, it would've been perfect, to my eye. It would've been a splash of color and textures and not something that just overpowers the living room and makes it too busy. Same thing with travertine everywhere. Maybe bathroom counters, maybe flooring would've worked but they clad the bathrooms floor to ceiling with it and it's too much.

Sexy house!!!!
I'm once again asking architects to stop designing concrete homes in the middle of a climate crisis when they don't have to.
Love it has the charm of a mini holocaust museum
Don’t trip and bang your head , too sharp and clinical, like a government bureaucracy. Way too much marble with bloody sharp edges and no heart . The statue of Janus on the mantle was somewhat unsettling.
The house, the people talking, the music - all depressing. Are jokes allowed in this house?
Lmao
Look like a black mirror
Yes, but you cant laugh.
@@BobbyDazzler888😂😂😂 for any noise above 50 dB, you get thrown in the cellar and that’s where the fun begins for the owners…
@@c87325 nicely turned around against me, points for you 👍
The house is a beauti, but the background music is terrible
apart from the marble kitchen this is decent. the kitchen looks like a pile of vomit in an otherwise very much zen home
restrained imaginations and excessive budgets. not the kind of arch we should be celebrating in a housing crisis. yuck
Not everyone is in a crisis.
Omgg you guys released not only one but two back to back flop houses. This is a depressing house lmao
I wonder if you’d say that if you had a chance to spend some time at the house. So much attention to detail is amazing. Look at it with different eyes, you may change your mind. These homes are beautiful in their simplicity. Perhaps you have a different aesthetic, I don’t like all modern homes, but I’ve learned to appreciate not only the homes, but the reasons why architects build the homes the way they do. Take a look at Frank Lloyd Wright’s homes, he was criticized in his time, only now is he appreciated as a man of vision.
you can tell by the ladies body language and comments that she does not either like the architecture or the architect. "I knew it was going to be an amazing result." Not, "I knew it was going to be amazing art, or architecture." Just .... a result. :) Also, she raised her eyebrow earlier when talking about him, so there's some tell about her opinion on him or the architecture. I wonder if this dude is a dick, has money or is just a dick and has money.
Sorry. Anemic.
