  • The 2023 hazel harvest has been the largest our forest garden has lived yet. And it's been a very grounding experience. In this video I explore the hazelnut tree, and my experience harvesting them.

    They're quite good freshly dry roasted in their shells.

      Sounds tasty. I'll give it a try. Do you have to break a hole in the shell like you do with chestnuts?

      No, you don't have to do anything to the shells just roast them whole as is. You'll have to experiment in small batches to zero in on the right time and temperature as I don't recall the exact numbers that I did mine in. If the kernels come out too dark like a coffee bean brown color then they're over done, they're just right however if at the center of the kernel there's an orange-roasted color.
