Alcaide is such a gentleman tho. He didn’t celebrate when he won and before he shot the 9 ball, he even asked the crowd to chill and after that went right to JJ and comfort him. What a true hero of this sport !
I mean it was more of an anti Climax given the way it ended for both players. Imagine if Alcaide celebrated, why would he? It’s called Virtue Signaling and pandering in a way.
That's what it should be about all the greats I've met have been super polite from the like of Roberto Gomez to Gabe Owens all been super nice I find the Europeans are being kind of rude my opion they are playing great but sportsmanship is a huge part of this sport

A nice guy he is. A gentleman would have shot the cue ball in the pocket and hope that Jeremy would have put the ball back exactly where it was, and just play as if nothing had happened. That would have been true sportsmanship.
Fair play to the ref - I've never seen a cue ball cleaned as fast as that.
JJ played the best match on the US side so far. What a pity it ended like it did...

The amount of respect for all the European players to come up to Jeremy after that situation is… astounding. JJ is an absolute monument in this sport, both commentating and playing. Very great class from team Europe.
Alcaide should have caused a fault and let JJ to shot again. I admire the skills of the Europeans but their sportsmanship is full of crap.
What? Where did this insane reverence for Jones come from? I mean, he was a good player and he's a good announcer but no one needs to bow down to the guy. He picked a completely awful team that seems to be based on personalities and biases. That he went 0-3 in play...well, he got thrown into it so fair enough. But it's not worth celebrating. And he certainly should have known the rules.

I've been watching the Mosconi Cup since I was a kid back in the mid-90s. It's a part of my pre-Christmas tradition and I love to see how much it has grown in popularity and support over the years.

What a match between Alcaide and Jones. Alcaide is a very composed player.
I have to say, as a coach, you'd think he'd study the rules and expect his team to know the rules letter by letter. No excuse.

I don't think he would have beaten the clock even without the ball cleaning. He should have called for the extension.

running the clock while cleaning the ball is right logic in my opinion, if it's not this way u just call clean the ball each time and u have like 10 sec more.

@@Kierron85 I like Jones and he always plays pretty well. it's not like the guy hadn't picked up a cue. but even if he played good for what you'd expect that he had to play was a part of the problem. Truly, he kept losing.
The bigger issue was in his awful selections for the team. How you put Styer and Reinhold in there over Duel/Dechaine/Bergman...goofy.

ive always respected alcaide. great player and an amazing individual. and after seeing his sportsman like response to the crowd after that jeremy jones blunder, i have nothing but absolutely more respect for him. although that was an absolutely gut wrenching time foul, what a gentlemen alcaide is.

The American team is just full of choke artists. Styer showed before that he cracks under pressure.That Reinhold guy has horrible fundamentals and massive gag reflex, chokes on command. Comparable to that Chris Robinson dude from Mosconi nightmares past. Shane gets the yips every time he’s needed as a teammate. The coach is scared to win and doesn’t know the rules. Skylar is about the only bright spot. If you can get him to take the match seriously, he’s got as much talent, nerve and fire as anyone on earth. But beyond that, USA are just overmatched mentally.
At least Earl wasn’t here to bring the awkward and weird vibe when the team started shitting the bed and the crowd started chanting.

Mosconi Cup observation thoughts: Woodward the most consistent. Jeremy Jones is a close second. Shane isn't himself currently. Styer still young and experienced but will get more comfortable and better. Rinehold good up and coming player. He missed some crucial shots. On team Europes side I think Shaw has played the most consistent. Tough road coming up. Have to take it 1 shot and 1 game at a time. Can't worry about what happened before. Focus on the present. Power of positive thinking. Let's send it to day 5 team USA!
It's a bad team. Mosconi is kind of dumb no matter what but you have to pick the best players regardless of your personal opinions. Dechaine is the most obvious omission.
But Europe has better guys, overall.

Admittedly one should know the rules. However, we should also consider that the rules of nine ball and the rules in the moscone cup have changed very significantly year by year. Not least of which is this 30 second shot clock and the unbelievably rude crowds trying to participate in the game by being distracting. I can't help but imagine the empty theater that would result if this were tried in a snooker game.
It happens people make mistakes none of us are perfect and none of us are playing like they are people make mistakes
@@ddmannion don't you think it's up to participants to either learn and accept the rules (and playing conditions), or just decline the offer to join the team? Once you're in it, it's hard to moan about it. Not that Jeremy did moan, he is a true professional who just made a mistake and was probably just disappointed with himself. He knows he can't blame anyone but himself.
Chris Reinhold is the only player on either team that I am sure that at least 20 people in the crowd could beat in a race to 5.
As long as it’s the tv table, you don’t need anyone from the crowd. He’ll beat himself all day long.

Americans have a long way to go to match the ferociousness and fortress like atmosphere that the Brit’s can generate. Not just in mosconi but take any event such as boxing. It’s always the brits that bring the heat. Americans just have “ho team GO” or U.S.A. Like they’re at a junior rounders match cheering on their son. They’ve got a lot to learn

On day 1 someone had the ball cleaned off and they stopped the clock. Why didn't they stop it for Jones?
Pretty sure it was Jones who had it cleaned on day 1. Could be wrong. But that was gut wrenching. USA needed that win desperately. Hopefully we can get stroking and shoot better tomorrow.

But according to US fans, Shane’s numerous un forced errors, scratches, dry breaks, misses on nine balls, bad shots etc etc etc, it was “because of unruly fans” 😖 when I could compile an hours-long video of when European players are down on the shot and someone WHISTLES, MAKES A NOISE, YELLS, TALKS, (EVEN WHEN IN EUROPE SO THERE IS ZERO EXCUSE) and yet the player pockets the ball 👌😂

Not a huge JJ fan but credit where credit is due.. he deserved that win and he's the best player on team USA right now. Now everyone will talk about the JJ call instead of SVB's horrible play.
This one was on Jeremy, you should know the rules of the game you're playing, especially as the captain. He should have just went for the shot and got it cleaned right after on the seven. Sure, the chalk might have altered the path of the 6, but at least you would give yourself a chance knowing that you're a slower player who takes about 10 seconds to line up a shot anyways.
Lots of people wondering how pros can play that bad. Well if any of YOU was in that room, play that tight pocket table, under the pressure, you would be a total fool and not be able to make ONE easy ball, not even run entire racks. A decent D or C player can run the racks already at the local table if you get used to it. So please dont get ahead of yourself, they are PROS and you are just a local C level player.

It's always easy to judge when you setting comfortably at home! I know for a fact the the worst of these PROS can easily destroy the best of the best amateurs.

better cohesion in the team

The time foul is just crap...
Even if the rule was explained in advance, the concept that there could be something wrong with the table or equipment and you lose your shot because of it is wrong. I mean the bottom line is it's completely out of your control as a player. For all you know the ref has to walk across the room twice to go get a towel and put it back before he puts the cue ball down there's your extension gone. Rule or not that's a pretty sad way to end a match
In the moment the right decision was made but i think theres an argument for a rule change for sure
Letting the clock run while a player asks for the cue ball to be cleaned is a good rule. Think about it, if the clock stopped every time a player asks for the cue ball to be cleaned, they can abuse that in order to get extra "extensions", since the ref have to clean the ball if a player asks.
A better rule change would be that if an extension is available it should automatically kick in even if a player hasn't asked for it in the case of a time foul. The ref should call it when the clock runs down.
