And in my opinion, he kind of made up for it when he at least tried to save her sister from the same fate. See, i disagree. To a point it is actually groundbreaking. Okay, princess and dragon shtick, a dime a dozen. But dragons always always always either eat the princess or trap her. The princess never climbs out of the hole and tames the dragon. The princess never gets to have that final confrontation with the family that locked her away. She always goes from being locked up to "you're free! Now go get married and produce an heir, preferably a son." I think this was a very refreshing take. The princess never gets to save herself, she always has to rely on someone else. She had no one else here, she had to rely on her own strength, willpower and grit.

When she reached into the pool after the dragon basically told her to kill her, I started crying. I knew right then and there she was going to help the dragon and they’d both get their vengeance.
I was yelling at the tv when she raised the sword, saying how this is not how the story should end. My friend was cracking up laughing at me. I was so happy at this part. I wanted revenge for all those innocent girls who died.

It’s the same as in the Promising Young Woman…men do something horrible and then they play the part of victim when confronted and I won’t lie. Sometimes it works.
