The interactive queue at The Haunted Mansion in Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom opened today, offering guests a new introduction to the classic Disney dark ride. The queue features several new tombs, crypts, and ghosts, each with their own sights, sounds, and interactive elements.

No, it doesn't really slow the line down at all. It makes waiting in line more bearable.
Technically speaking, this is what the Imagineers had in mind when they were first coming up with ideas for the Haunted Mansion. They wanted an interactive queue for the ride and there was also going to be a Museum of the Weird. The ideas were scrapped though after Walt Disney's death.
The Imagineers have done it again - Absolutely fantastic!!
Finally! They've actually made the bloody line exciting for once. :D You have something fun to do as you move along. lol
Awwww the mr. Frees one is for Paul frees, my favorite voice actor! He's the ghost host!
For a ride that never really had a long wait and is one of my favorites, This is only going to make the queue so much longer with guests occupied playing with the various objects rather than moving forward.
Loved this Haunted Mansion Full Ride at Disney World ! Went there in 86 and 85!
This queue line is a great addition to an awesome ride. I mean it definitely beats looking at sweaty peoples back fat like u do in most other lines. Love it!
Quite an acomplishment for this classic E-ticket attraction in the Magic Kingdom. Though, personally, I think it is taking away from the creepy feeling of Claude Coats's creepy and moody 1st half of the ride, where as this would be coming from Marc Davis's silly and spooky 2nd half of the ride.
I love the tribute to Mr. Frees (aka the ghost host) at 7:28 :)
lovely additions!!! i love the how they tied in a few of the stories in the haunted mansion in this new interactive portion.
aww they made a tombstone for Gus (one of the hitchhiking ghosts.) I love what they did with it. When I went during the summer I noticed that some of the tombstones were missing and I was wondering what the imagineers had done with them.
This is just wonderful, though. I love our mansion and the new queue. There is nothing wrong with it at all. Haters gonna hate

This stuff is insane! I only wish Walt were here to see it... He probably never in a million years new this stuff would be possible some day. I'm glad to see the workers at Disneyworld are continuing to make his dream come true.

It's creepier if you go in the dark! First time to Disney was in May on a class trip, went during the night after The Peter Pan ride, thought it was going to be scary, but it was way cool! Will be subscribing!
Actually I was there a few weeks ago and I went into the Interactive Line. Thee line splits and one goes through here while one goes around it to the front and they meet again. It actually speeds up the line by having 2 separate ones. The most the wait was was about 10-15 minutes the whole day like it always is. The line was actually moving so fast we had to speed through the interactive stuff a little. I thought "Great here comes the wait for the new line." but nope it was a clear walk through.

This looks fantastic. I was worried it would be too computery or gimmicky, but I think it is a nice addition to the ride and in the spirit of the original
@Gibsonburgman She was actually an imagineer (people who design the rides) and provided the Face of Madam Leota but the voice is actually Eleanor Audley, a famous Disney Voice actress who was in many of the old movies and she was actually Maleficent in Sleeping Beauty. The original Leota Toombs daughter Kim Irvine is also an imagineer and provided the head for the Nightmare before christmas version of the haunted mansion Leota.
im going to DW in May this is a great addition havent been to DW in 10 years or more. I go to DL every year so this will be a treat!

The new interactive queue looks great and seems to be a lot of fun. The only thing I want to critique is the placement of the tombstones of "Grandpa Marc" and "Francis Xavier." I feel like it is hard to believe that there are bodies buried there in that small little divider where they placed them.
Even in the holiday season, heavy traffic's inevitable.
They even added a little memorial to Thurl Ravenscroft in the new queue. That's nice of WDI. :)

@RoxasClaimsRiku I beleive Leota Toombs was an actual Disney employee at one time. She was either a seamstress in the Wardrobe department or was a janitor at the park. And she's the actual head and voice of Madame Leota the floating head in the crystal ball.
I like that there are a lot more nods to imagineers and people who played a part in the ride (especially the ravenscroft brand organ)
but for nostalgia's sake, i'm not the biggest fan. I used to be terrified of this ride when I was little. (seriously, I refused to go on from ages 3-13) so the interactive cue seems to make it less scary.
but, it looks fun and i'll definitely want to try it out next time i get out there

Two points:
A) You can skip it, it won't slow anyone down if they don't want to be.
B) Remember who this place is for, the kids. And imagine if you bring your kid and they think this is all real. They will have more fun waiting on line, and you as a parent will have less stress as a result, and more fun with them!

According to people who have seen the new mansion in person, the new HHG and graveyard on the hill (Not the interactive queue) make up for the new queue.
When I went there in 1995, i was before the queue existed. Fun to see next time..
They need some more things involving Master Gracey. Everything revolves around him anyways, I mean he's the master of the house.

looks ok to me- not really a fan of an interactive queue for this attraction, but im glad we can take the old route into the mansion

If you want to just go to the ride, you can go on the ride. That way you won't have to wait. You can also skip past people in the queue for this one, but Dumbo is queued weirdly so you can't,
this is cool :)
Phantom Manor is a interesting ride, it would be awesome in spend the night at the The Haunted Mansion from the movie.
Actually you can choose to go through the graveyard or just go right onto the ride. I went on this ride three times this summer and never had to wait long at all

i just came back from disney 2 days ago and i went on this five times, its very fun. not scary at all :) youll love it.
He'd prolly say to the Imagineers "Get ur asses over to DL and start making it IDENTICAL to TMK." Unfortunately, since Walt isn't alive anymore, Imagineers continue to nearly neglect DL's haunted mansion except for some new safety spiels and 1 or 2 FX. You guys over in TMK get a larger foyer complete with a Master Gracey portrait, new sound and visual technologies, 1 or 2 added scenes and a scarier exterior.
I'm really, really, REALLY scared of anything that's "haunted", but this looks fun! :]
Don't forget that there's a seperate line for people who don't want to go through the interactive queue...
@SGarv04 The hearse is on the opposite as you walk in. I saw it there last Friday when I went.
I actually prefer Pooh's interactive queue to HM's. The Pooh queue actually takes you deep into different aspects of the story as the line progresses. This just feels like a bunch of noisemakers clumped up together like a bad museum exhibit.

O.K. To say that because it is Disney does not mean that its automatically for kids.
Also The new queue erases all the sense of mystery to the haunted mansion making it seem fully kid friendly, really if you think about it, the ride isn't until after the attic scene. the first half from the moment you enter the stretching room, till you leave the attic is atmospheric and genuinely scary and creepy and has been at disneyland since 69 and Disneyworld since 71.

the statues are "functional" (unless they are doing something else) look at the symbols above their epitaph, and their epitaph itself to figure out who killed whom. Hint: Jacob was the one to die first

Doesnt slow down the line because this line is actually separate from the line that goes into the attraction if anything it makes the standard line quicker you can chose to go either left for the interactive que which makes it longer or go right and head straight into the attraction.
@stephcharb4 Depends on what time of the day you go there. Last Friday the line was 40 minutes long. In the afternoon it's less and even moreso in the morning.
@WaltDisneyWorldBlog, I believe that tombstone was a tribute to X Atencio. Interesting similarity though.

I'm happy with the outcome :) Unlike some "diehard fans" as I am also myself, I am open to change as long as it's for the better, which this is. As Disney himself said, His parks will never be DONE. There's always something more they can plus!
i only liked a few, but it looks odd... should of put the bookshelf effect inside, and the captain my be a throw back at how the first haunted mansion was going to be sea themed---

This just ruined what the Haunted Mansion is all about outside. Class... This is too whimsical and stupid. It is making a mockery of Walt's vision.

I totally agree. Walt was a genius, and honestly I prefer Disneyland to World because it's the original and more cozy. Plus I'm a big Disney history buff
+Nikita Audio to be fair, Walt wasn't even alive when the Disneyland one opened. The exterior was built but he died before the story was written.
anyone notice the name Ravenscroft on the organ? It's in memory of Thurl Ravenscroft who's the deep voiced bust in the graveyard and also who did the voice of Tony the Tiger
True, but you're entertained and you can take the other queue, which would be shorter as most people would go the interactive way

It's not visible from the front, you have to know to go into the left hand queue around the corner.
I went years back and didn't see it either, then again I never rode it that time... and this year I went through fastpass so I didn't see it again :P
Seriously, Walt Disney wouldn't have wanted to open up the new queue until those busts were in movement........... WE WANT WALT ALIVE AGAIN!!!!!!
3:00 - The instruments look kind of weird, but I guess they almost seem like something Rolly Crump would've done. I'm a little split on that.
4:46 - Kind of annoying. I could've done without this one. I'll be able to tease my girlfriend (Hannah) about her name being in it, though, so there's that.
6:45 - What was that about a cryptogram? Anyway, this is pretty interesting.
7:29 - I recognize these names. Good to see they're getting credit.

madame leota's grave has done that for a long time before this queue, though
Ricky - did they remove the turnstyles so that those in wheel chairs and ECV's can go thru the queue now??
so did they change the ride itself at all, because i know in another video they had replaced the hitchhiking ghosts with other projections. so did the imagineers finish what they were doing?
You know what's even more fun??? Reading repeating comments of people whining about how long the line will be because they're too stupid to pay attention to the beginning of the video which states that there are TWO lines!!!

@mrkylesfilms1 well the name alone should tell them its scary.."Haunted Mansion" thats scary. People who are with those children should maybe take control and say to the kid 'hey, this is a really scary ride'. A few things that moves during the queue wont cause a sensation for 2 year olds around the world, it is just to make the long lines easier to handle for everyone. I dont see one problem with this.

Is The Madame Leota tombatone still there? She has the most haunted Stone of all :)
I'm not exactly sure how I feel about this yet..... I will most likely have to see it in person first to decide. I believe this is their way of trying to bump up the technology to compete with the Wizarding world of Harry Potter. The thing isHarry Potter was built advanced and well the Haunted Mansion is just classic and perfect the way it was. It's like when Coke changed their recipe and look what happened, it completely bombed. Somethings are just better left untouched.

Some of the memorial stones are pretty cool, but the grave stones...? where would the body be? the stones could be laid flat along the floor like at a church instead
