So excellent, so succinct. This is such a perfect teaching for Western students. So easy to get lost in the elaborate practices, to collect them and think one is progressing and yet ultimately missing the whole essence of the point of practice. So easy to get lost in concepts and intellectual accumulation which just adds to the cluttered mind. Knowing vs. Knowing about. She gives such excellent, essential guidance. So grateful I listened to this and will again and again. May her luminosity benefit many
Thank you Great Teacher, a great lesson that have to listen to more than once, Wish the monks have more compassion to the nuns and will incorporate them into the formal system, at least receive formal education and initiation, after all that should be part of compassion for all sentient beings that they keep talking about, then hopefully expand that to all people who want to learn the Dharma indiscriminately. The easy way out is to always just blame it on that being's merits without doing what a Bodhisattva should be doing.
Agree--and here's something else I struggle with when it comes to the reluctance for monks to embrace (metaphorically speaking) women in the study of the Dharma and path to ordination: if, as we are taught, that everyone has been our mother at one point or another and we need to repay that kindness, then perhaps the women trying to be nuns have all been our mother and why not honor them with recognition and ordination? This reluctance of monks to allow ordination is especially galling as an American female who considers equal treatment as a human right and not necessarily simply a cultural thing.
