  • CIMMYT has launched a ‘TED Talk meets fireside chat’-style series on women leaders. As Marion Wright Edelman said, “You can’t be what you can’t see.” If we want more women leaders in science institutions like ours, we need to provide more opportunities to hear from women leaders about their life journeys, lessons, and insights. We seek to highlight women who are leaders in all sorts of capacities, fields and disciplines, because we believe that leadership styles can take many different forms.
This is our latest episode from the series Catalysts of Change, from Tuesday June 18, 2024.
    Presenting Name Julianna LeMieux
Julianna LeMieux is Deputy Editor in Chief at Genetic Engineering & Biotechnology News (GEN). She has been a science writer and editor at GEN for four years where she covers synthetic biology, genomics, infectious disease, genome editing, and more. Previously, she spent years training at the bench while studying bacterial pathogenesis during her PhD and postdoc. She has a passion for explaining complicated scientific concepts to a wide variety of audiences.
Julianna will have a conversation with Sarah Hearne, CIMMYT Genetic Resources Program Director. Working with multidisciplinary teams, she explores, harnesses, re-combines and co-develops applications and approaches in the areas of genomics, informatics, biometrics and breeding methodology, driving data synergies towards more efficient and effective upstream discovery and breeding. She currently leads projects on Mining Useful Alleles for Climate Change Adaptation from CGIAR Gene Banks, the Seeds of Discovery initiative and the Trait Discovery and Deployment and Toolbox areas of the Excellence in Breeding Platform.
