    I remember this from the live stream. Supurb work. I think it would look even better on a CRT. I remember many SNES and Mega Drive games would use vertical alternating lines to simulate smooth gradients over composite video. This kind of things really makes me want to have a go at writing a game for the CPC. I write low-level x86-64 and ARM v8 asm code at work all the time. I optimize SIMD by hand using the intrinsics. Enable our product to take better advantage of out-of-order instruction execution on the superscalar cores, etc. Z80 is so much simpler... and I'm sure a lot more fun. It's just the time involved, and learning the esoteric hardware features, which allow for things such as smooth scrolling, chasing the beam, loaders, bank switching, AY programming, etc.

      I have absolutely no doubt in my mind you would absolutely beast the Z80 and produce something special with enough time and dedication, especially with the tools, software, hardware and the available documentation/help/resources available around now. 👍 There would be plenty of people on hand to help with a project from graphic artists to musicians to help take care of that side of things too - happy (eventually) to put you in touch with the right people.

      The ChibiAkumas website has tutorials that cover a lot of the hardware-specific areas of game programming for the CPC that you'd want to know.

    Cool game! No honestly.... CoOl game! That could be another system seller if it was released back in the day.

      @@Xyphoe you're quite right. These days (and back then) the corporate environment was lead by managers. So basically people without passion or motivation.

    Have to commend your gaming skills, as someone rapidly approaching 50 my skills have noticeably declined. To the point where the default settings for most games I play is now very easy. I bet you could get past the 2nd screen of Airwolf!

      It's strange in that I've got better with age, but then I've found my body start to fail me as I've entered my 40's .... eyesight started to deteriorate (now need glasses / ocular migraines are a thing), various aches and pains, etc! So I'm destined I'm sure to start to lose it soon! But I'll make the most of it whilst I can!

    Incredible game - and also incredibly hard. I was first surprised that it only made 3rd place but when I tried it I understood. I didn't even manage to get out the very first section in the first screen. This game is made for hardcore gamers. If there is a full release, I hope the level we saw now is one of the later levels - and some easier levels before that allow to "learn" the mechanics.

    • @Xyphoe
      @Xyphoe  3 месяца назад

      Yes it is quite tough indeed, I think it is that way because the original Cybernoids were very hard games but also the game is relatively short too - as you saw I completed it within 17 minutes, and you could probably chop out another 3minutes or so with me exploring the ship on the 2nd section unnecessarily too taking it down to ~13-14minutes. And maybe saving even more time not harvesting credits - and you have a game you could complete in under 10 minutes. You also have the option to make it a bit easier by having 7 lives, higher loot value and having 'light' enemy fire (less spammage) on the title screen to make it a bit easier for you :)
      But yea here's hoping we get a bigger game in the future? I suspect though they will move on to a new project or finish off Corsair.

      Gryzor is only 10-12 mins long. But it is incredibly well designed (as far as I am concerned). A skilled player will blast his/her way through the end without loosing once but also the less experienced players will feel rewarded when beating the first level (and probably without any lives left for the second level!). Being short doesn't make it worse. Balance is the key. I think nowadays, I 'd prefer a short game (but challenging) over a game with infinite number of tries and save points etc. thumbs up for the overall design. Still in awe. I will download and play over the weekend for sure.

      @@infamousJohn_thedoc Yea agreed, obviously I wasn't saying it made/makes it worse being a short game - I still playing Gryzor to this day and love it, even though on a good day I can probably beat it on one life in 10minutes keeping hold of the lazer weapon! (often though I still get my arse kicked!)

      Oh, the laser rifle! You either grab it in level 1 or forget about it
      That's good design

    I can understand why Bitplane Technomantes included the "shoutout" in the congratulatory message. It's obviously a dig at Batman Group, but they're not the only people who keep releasing a series of teaser videos and screens of their work over periods of months or years. In a lot of cases, by the time the game is released, my enthusiasm for it has waned considerably. It reminds me of the days when you would read previews of games in your favourite CPC magazine, only for them to never be released for the CPC.

    • @Xyphoe
      @Xyphoe  3 месяца назад

      Well that's where we disagree (that you "understand") because I see no reason why it was absolutely necessary to be included in the congratulations/end screen of a game, that everyone involved in the Amstrad scene was going to play. On saying that, they're free to express themselves however they want and say what they want - I'm cool with that. And it's hardly a big issue. It's just a daft thing and joke. I'd assume the Batman Group themselves are hardly that bothered by it either. Neither am I really. It just put a weird and meh note to end such a brilliant production on, I just hope it doesn't get taken the wrong way too far.
