I really like this version they made for KI2/Gold, but I'll alkways prefer the original one. It has a somber quality about it, almost like hints to horror, that truly provided a specific mood and personality to the game amongst all the fighting games at the time. And on top of that, at least to me it gave this "in motion" feeling to the select screen, like flawlessly connecting between different main menu screens and hurrying you up.
