- Ayuni has mild intellectual disability. When the childcare group under Presbyterian Community Services (PCS) decided to train her and other Grace Orchard School students with mild intellectual disability to work in childcare centres as teacher aides, questions arose.
Would their presence give the teachers more work? Would the children be able to tell the difference? And would their parents be willing to give them a chance?
Here's the story of one of the trainees, Ayuni's transformation - from a quiet and reserved girl to a confident young woman who dreams of becoming a childcare teacher.

This made me cry. My daughter is diagnosed with same condition and I worry for her future. Somehow this gives hope that she have a chance to be independent someday.

for persons with mild intellectual disabilities, they can do more than the 4 stipulated career paths etched out for them by a school. exemplified here is a very intelligent young lady who is more than capable of thriving as a caretaker of younger children. she is in the right environment with the right people supporting her. not to mention her incredible drive and hardworking mentality. she deserves this pilot programme opportunity and is destroying the stigma that people with mild intellectual disabilities are not contributing to society. big kudos to miss ayuni.

When her sister teared I teared too 🥲🥲 so touching. You can totally hear the gratitude in her sister’s voice.
I felt that! You can tell she really loves her sister and wants the best for her.
Sounds like a program with a lot of potential ! That young lady seems very nice and capable.
I love that they provided accommodations for her for this job, breaking down her daily tasks and reviewing them at the end of the day. That kind of stuff is unheard of here in the US
So happy a Christian preschool gave her this opportunity. They exemplify Christ through this. God bless!
I fully support a noble empowering educational programmes like this. Aargh i'm getting emotional seeing an educator giving the opportunity for special kids to be a contributing member of our society.

I'm so happy and touched to see both principals rolling out and executing this pilot programme. They are so supportive and accepting. Every child deserves the best chance in life to live out their calling and work hard in their pathway.

What an amazing program! Kudos to Ayuni, she seems to be doing so well with the kids and teaching! Kudos to the principal for initiating this program and all her coworkers for providing support and mentoring the trainees. People like Ayuni has so much potential to contribute to society, given the right kind of support. 3years is a long investment but I think that is exactly what is needed for the students to raise their confidence and familiarity with the job challenges. I think longer training/mentorship is actually what is needed to cultivate in the profession. It seems we no longer invest in the individuals entering society and make do with mediocre average. If we all strive to create a place for all, we could avoid the harmful rat-race mentality, that in the end will bring unnecessary misery to all of us. This programming is so educational and wonderful, thanks for bringing us this video (subscribed!).
