Really well done. I had a big fail with Quartz and got lucky finding this video. Getting all the gates lined up is a PITA, but so smooth and satisfying once you get it working. Caution: don't switch components (netlify, github, vault) until all done. I was doing test vaults and it wouldn't build when I switched. With the dg-publish switch you can put it right on your existing vault.
@@raphaelshklarek Amazing! Good luck! 😊 it's surprisingly fulfilling to start planning out the home note for your entrance eh? I found I could start to visualize all of the paths I could go down (or direct others down). Feel free to share it when it's done, if you would like, and I'll take a look! No pressure ofc, just curious to see different cultivators 🌱
Dear Wanderloots. Excellent and insightful video. Many thanks. Two questions if you could kindly assist 1. I have a Obsidian Vault set up and would like to upload multiple existing notes. Is there a way to do this without manually adding the properties to each note? 2. Many of my notes have images imbedded in them but the images are not being uploaded to my site- how do I get the images to upload along with my notes? Currently only the file path uploads.
Hi Francois, thanks so much! Glad you found it helpful ✨ 1) I would try the "multi-properties" plugin. It seems to do what you are looking for. You can either select the files you want to batch add the property to, or select an entire folder (e.g., all files in "digital garden" folder). Then, you right click, select add properties to notes in folder, and would select the checkbox option --> dg-publish --> checked & checkbox --> dg-home --> UNchecked (except for the home note). Here's a link: obsidian://show-plugin?id=multi-properties 2) Hmm, do you have the "use full resolution images" button checked in Digital Garden Plugin --> Appearance Settings? Try that and see if it helps 😊 Happy to answer any more questions 🫡
@@Wanderloots Thank you for the advise with multiple properties. I am still unable to upload the images with my notes to the site (I have confirmed that my use full resolution images are selected). Should my images be upload to my GitHub repository?
My pleasure! Hope it worked 😊. Your images should automatically upload to GitHub when included, depending on how you have your image structure in obsidian. There are two options when you copy a file into obsidian for embedding: 1) it leaves the file in place and references the image location via Obsidian. 2) it creates a copy of the image at a location you have set (e.g., _attachments folder). Check to see under Settings --> Files & Links --> Default Location For New Attachments to see if they are going into a folder that is WITHIN your vault that is published with the Digital Garden Plugin. If not, it's possible that, while you can see the file in Obsidian, the Digital Garden Plugin can't find it because it's not in your vault. lmk if that fixes it!
I believe you need to add dg-home to all pages so that the builder knows that it is NOT the home page. I just created a template that has dg-home as a property so it doesn't take any extra effort to add notes with the needed properties.
Well, I would love to have a simple, free website for my YT channel and this could be a solution, so that is hopeful. I just wonder if I can automate creating new pages when a new video is posted...I could put my vault in Dropbox, that could work... Anyway, I found your speaking style soothing and your explanation was thorough. Thank you again!
@@IversusAI Thank you! That's great feedback. Hmm I'm not aware of an automatic page being created. But, for example, if you write the draft of your youtube video description in Obsidian, once you click publish, you can share the embed as HTML and add it to the description page in your vault and press publish. Would only take a few seconds. re: dropbox, I think that depends on if you have an iPhone. My understanding for syncing between web and mobile is that iOS only works with iCloud, but if you have an android, shouldn't be a problem. Just something to consider when looking into sync options.
What do you mean by comments? Like make it multi player, with comments from other people? If so, yes! There’s a page in the digital garden plugin website that explains the integration with a few comment services like disqus: dg-docs.ole.dev/advanced/guides-and-how-tos/adding-comments/ Happy to answer more q’s, though I haven’t added this to my own site yet 😊
ahh that's one I'm not sure how to help with sorry! The overall plugin doesn't work? or the deployer is having issues with it? Not sure how savvy you are with coding, but could take a look at the github repo and then ask ChatGPT if there's a way to modify some of the code to enable RTL languages?
awesome! Let me know when you’ve given it a go, and I’ll add it to the list I’m building of digital gardens 😊 Going to create a table so people can explore by different topics/art styles/etc Was any particular part the most helpful?
