Wicked City, Cybercity Oedo 808, and Midnight Eye Goku is all early Madhouse, before Ninja Scroll. This takes me back to my college years. Really cool story about a detective who obtains a mysterious "eye" from an unknown force that allows him to access every computer on the planet. The manga is by Buichi Terasawa who wrote and illustrated the Space Adventure Cobra series as well. Madhouse animation studio stood out at the time because they were doing more adult-themed animations while the trend were the usual cliches.
At 1:03, he's not even wearing a shirt. Then when the sign said to walk, he stand still and lights a smoke. Can't get more distopian anti-hero than this. Also, 4:32 is the best thing I've seen in a while.

Perseus is also given gifts from Hermes, such as the Athena's shield, Hermes sandals, and the Helm of Hades. This guy is given a robotic eye that can see through illusions and a staff that is reminiscent of Son Wukong's extending staff.

yes i really miss anime like this, i consider a lot of the newer stuff, whilst entertaining to be quite formulaic and derivative
