This happens to me all the time. Whenever my teacher reaches for my instrument, I quickly wipe the fingerboard with my sleeve in a futile attempt to clean off what I can in two seconds
lmao this reminds me of one time when i was in youth orchestra and was principal violist - after a concert the conductor went to shake my hand and i was NOT anticipating it. my hand was insanely sweaty and i was genuinely so embarrassed 😭 he was a really good conductor too so i was like dying lol
The advantage of being a wind player is your teacher almost never asks to play your instrument. (It's pretty hard to tell the sweat from the slobber, to be honest.)
@@oxoelfoxo They would use their own mouthpiece (and reed for a reed instrument). But you're obviously not a wind player since you aren't aware that the "condensation" comes out pretty much everywhere there's a hole. Except on brass instruments, which have spit valves for the purpose. But in my experience, instructors don't play a student's instrument unless there's a problem with the instrument that can't be figured out by looking at it. But it's not really from squeamishness about the spit (we're pretty used to it). I was just making a joke.
Ooo the band room was next to the orchestra and every now and every now and then we would collaborate. Band people would clean their spit valve on the carpet! I'd grap my Viola and run out. I'll practice in the hall.
@@victoryvalladares2769I'm curious now. Where do you expect them to empty it? It often has to be done in the middle of a piece, so you can't excuse yourself to go somewhere else. And with woodwinds like a clarinet, the "condensation" just dribbles out the end, so it naturally lands on the floor.

lol!! 😂
me at a performence
won't you damage the wood if you're so sweaty?
no, there is a varnish which makes the viola shiny and protects it from liquids.
It can wear off the varnish if you don’t wipe it, but the main issue is the fingerboard getting crusty from a deadly combo of Rosin/sweat/salt
I don't like people touching my Rhapsody. She's like my tarot, I don't like people touching them unless I trust them.
What piece is this?
Finale of Paganini's 24th Caprice (arr for viola)
