I’m an OB/Gyn nurse and I see this a lot! My first pap at 21 was abnormal, and thankfully the rest have been fine since. Its so important to get your screening pap when you’re due for it! Especially if you’ve ever had an abnormal pap in the past. Early detection is key to a good prognosis! Love the awareness you’re bringing to it❤

    Hi Toni,
Thanks so much for sharing your story. I am actually the person (Cytologist) who gets to screen those cells once they get sent back to the laboratory and prepared for cytological interpretation. This is such an important topic to bring awareness to as many people have no idea how to read their results or just get told from their clinician it came back "abnormal". An abnormal result can be put into several categories: ASCUS (atypical squamous cells- unknown significance) meaning it is probably nothing or there weren't enough cells to positively identify dysplasia. LSIl is next which means a low-risk HPV or HPV effect was identified, then HSIL (broken into moderate and high grade dysplasia) this means how far down the dysplasia has reached as it progresses toward the basement membrane. Carcinoma in Situ (CIS) comes next which is the final step before progression into cervical cancer which is when the cells spread beyond the basement membrane. There is also glandular atypias as well. Additionally, HPV high risk testing is not an alternative to pap screening. I have found dysplasia in women who came back HPV negative for all high risk types. It is not 100% and should not replace cytology even if a clinician indicates otherwise. Some countries have only HPV primary screening and many women are falling through the cracks

This is not coincidental! I know the message of your abnormal pap was meant for me to hear. I too just got back abnormal results today. I immediately freaked out and thought the absolute worst.
I will be going in on Tuesday for my colcopsy procedure and the wait is just haunting me.

Try putting the olive tree on a plant stand on the floor. It's too short to be placed on the floor as is, a stand would give it some height. I would try adding some greenery stems to your white vases on the shelves.

I’d say a cushion and blanket on the bench with a lamp just on the counter next to it would make it inviting and like a little reading nook 😊

  • @Oh_100

I think on that window bench a small book, as if you were reading at some point, a pillow and blanket will be cute for now. The plant would probably look cute on a small stool on the floor but away from the bench by the corner of the wall, if that makes sense.

In regards to the Pap smear exams.. I know that in NY at some point they were or still are pushing women to get them every 3 years which I think is ridiculous. In 3 yrs time a lot can happen, I myself advocate for myself and push my GYN for an annual exam. I did once upon a time have an abnormal exam and I drag it on until the doctor has no choice but to administer the darn exam.
I’m so happy you addressed this and hopefully encourages your female viewers to get them done annually and stay on top of it. ❤

It’s also worth noting that pap tests can come back abnormal due to human/lab error in administering the test! So sometimes it simply means doing futher testing just to confirm everything is perfectly normal

Thanks for talking about the pap- I’m literally dealing with this right now. In 2017 I had abnormal, but the doc said they were fine. I haven’t done a pap since then and now I just went again and have abnormal. I got the biopsy but my cells are heightened at a 2 and 3- right before cancer. My LEEP procedure is on the 27th. They can’t freeze them because the levels are too high, already being a level 3. I don’t do well with gyn stuff- the biopsy was so uncomfortable for me, so I’m going to the OR at a hospital and they’re going to use anesthesia for my procedure. My OBGYN said that’s common people opt for that route for the LEEP procedure- it costs more money but the comfort is better. I’m very stressed about it, but as I talk to women I’m comfortable with they say they’ve dealt with this at some point also, but none have had to go to the LEEP procedure because their cells were more of a level 1/2, not like me with level 3. I’m glad you’re raising awareness. I should have stayed on my annual paps and could have prevented this procedure by catching the cells in level 1/2 and just freezing them. So ladies, schedule your pap if it’s been a while- here’s your sign!

I am currently recovering from a LEEP procedure. My doctor has been following me for 6 years and said its time to get the LEEP. It’s a very quick procedure, the thing that took the longest was the preparation. I was level 2/3 as well after being level 1, level 2, back to level 1 and then 2/3. My doctor is following me 6 months, 6 months then 1 year. If everything looks good after that he will discharge me. Wish you the best!!

Hey Toni! I had an irregular pap and then an abnormal pap so I had to do a colposcopy and they found high risk pre cancer cells so I just completed a LEEP procedure literally 2 weeks ago from today. I felt so alone and like no one else was going through this especially at my age (27). I just got married in July and was planning on getting pregnant so this put a bit of a damper on my timeline in my head but I’m finally feeling better mentally and more open to talking about it. If you need any support or have any questions feel free to reach out! 💗
