I am an RPCV (Nicaragua 1993-1995). Great tips for living as a PC Volunteer! I did a lot of those myself in Nicaragua. That mosquito net was a LIFE SAVER. Glad you pointed out things that most people don't realize how much protection (in addition to the bugs) like in my case; protected from mice, rats, bats and scorpions. Cool video.
Very interesting! I’m curious- what about security? If you don’t mind my asking- what do you do (if anything) about securing your hut when you aren’t home or when you are asleep? How close are your closest neighbors?
Good question! Honestly, I'm not too worried about break Ins because it's a very small community. I did have one incident where a kid climbed over my wall and took some pens, and the whole community came to my aid and got them back. That being said, whenever I leave I lock the door and take anything very valuable with me.

Omgb😂 I wouldn't be able to sleep with rats bugs I'll have to bring my cat with me 😂
Super cool! I’m thinking about volunteering around May 2022. I love watching what your life is like!
Glad it's helping you picture what life could look like- though that depends a lot on where you end up. Good luck!
Did you do it? i’m thinking ab doing it post-grad
Brilliant, my friend! I hope I adapt as well as you did. Mercí!
Thanks for the tips! Time to cleanup the loft I just moved into for University!
This is great man!

RPCV Senegal 15-18. Great video! Are those rice sacks sewn together on your roof as a protective barrier?
Yes they are! Help keep the bugs and dust out 👌👌
This looks more comfier than my room lol.
Can you have things sent to you from the States? I would get a a battery operated fan.
Thank you so much for posting your experience with hut living! I am in the process of submitting my application for this coming year!
Congrats, and good luck!
You should have way more views and subscribers. I don’t live in a hut, but I’d like to incorporate the recycling tip into my life in America.
Thank you! Yeah you absolutely should, we all have things to learn from life over here.
I hope I get to live in a hut💜
Where is this in Guinea? I’m heading out to Guinea to be a PC Agroforestry Volunteer starting in November :)
Welcome, excited for you to join us! I'm based in Haute Guinea, near Kankan. Reach out if you have any questions!
What are those lights you have in the bed with the mosquito net portion of the video? Solar powered lights??
Yes, they're called Luci lights. I put them out every day to charge, they're really useful
Did you choose to go to Guinea?
I didn't, I told the Peace Corps that I would go wherever they sent me.
I'm triggered by the throwing the trash down the pit latrine! In Ethiopia that's a big no no, you don't want it to fill up faster than needed lol
Ha, I understand that! The alternative was burning it, and I had a bunch of room since my pit latrine was new so that's how I reached my decision.
Thank u but u didn't mention outdoor solar panels and I think lighting candles indoor s could be an unsafe fire hazard, just saying.
Made me not want to join the peace corp tbh
haha yeah, it's not for everyone. Very rewarding, but you have to like this sort of thing.
