Just want to thank you for all your videos on fluke fishing. Just landed my first door mat the other day weighing 13lbs 2oz. Used your bucktail teaser rig with 6 inch grub and quantum accurist reel with 15lb braid. Keep up the good work!
Used your technique, along with your Bucktails that I got from you at the Providence show and tipped with Gulp Mullett. None stop action all afternoon from shore.
I tried the blue fuze 6” grub yesterday from the package and they are way softer then the older colors in the same packaging. I hope that berkley isn’t using a new formula that makes them softer for us to lose them quicker. The fluke were tearing the blue fuze up where the nuclear chicken lasted much much longer.
It's interesting to hear you say you don't want to be scraping bottom, but staying just a foot or two above. This hurts my brain, because how do you know how far off the bottom your rig is? Also, what power rod do you have (M, MH, etc.)? Thanks in advance!
I’ve heard you can feel a sea robin hit differently and avoid setting the hook, probably super nuanced for most especially if you don’t mention it but I’ve heard EliasV talk about this
Absolutely to some extent you can filter out the sea robin and seabass hits and not set on those. It's really important not to waste time reeling those fish up, especially in deep water.
I’m coming for a week to North Falmouth 2nd week of Jun. I have an 8 ft plastic dinghy & a 10’ kayak. Should I try to fish near shore in these, in the smaller bays? I’ve never had either in salt water before, with the tides and all. Or should I just bring waders?
I've noticed a big difference I durability between the colors,I started using instigators when the snappers or blowfish are thick and I've been liking them.Cant replace gulp yet but people are starting to try!
So nice to be able to catch fluke or any fish without having to spend $100 for gas. Also, when you don't have tons of time, jump in the truck and walk out on the beach. Good Luck!
The biggest reason I like watching your videos is because of the amount of fish you guys catch each trip...we catch plenty of fish down here but not like you guys...think it has to do with the overall population of the fish up there...I can confirm at least from my experience that noise will shut them down...be it boats or my least favorite cast nets...you can catch them steady for hours and some guy throws a net near you and it's over!!! For at least half an hour....next time you make it down this way in the winter I'd love to show you Sebastian inlet if you've never fished it...it's really good...
I've also noticed that the newer gulps are getting softer...maybe a strategic change of the material by Berkeley to make you buy more?? something to think about...
@@JohnSkinnerFishing does it need to be a steep drop or a couple inches? I watch you drift in sounds and have been trying to figure it out for awhile now. Thank you
John, a little advice please. Planning a “party boat” trip into the bay for fluke. Fishing in 25 to 35 ft deep water. The boat captain says we will need from 5 oz. to 8 oz. sinkers if the wind and tide are in the same direction. How could I possible use one of your fluke rigs with that much weight? Any suggestions ?
No thicker than 15# braid and I doubt you'll use more than a 4-ounce jig at those depths. Many people still needlessly using 30#+ lines that create more drag and require heavier weights. I probably have 20+ videos on the channel jigging 3-4 ounces in 70 + feet.
Nice going john. You must have more flounder where you're at then where I've been fishing. I watch you, I listen to you, and I try my best to mimic every step you do and I catch not a damn thing besides junk fish. Thank you for all your videos.👍
John Skinner Fishing I used a salmon red grub earlier to catch the nicest flounder I’ve caught in awhile 20 inches 3.11 pounds. We don’t quite get fluke like you catch where I’m at. I ended up cutting a good bit of the body off. I need to try the blue fuse grub tomorrow. I tell you, I’ve caught hundreds of fluke and didn’t catch anything decent until today with that salmon red. Thanks for turning me on to that color. I’m glad it wasn’t a bigger fluke as I had to flip it in the boat and I’m using 10 pound mono.

i did too, from indiana, until 5 years ago, watched marty zoffinger too much and moved to Florida east coast. been the best thing ever. you just have to make plans and do it. there's a lot of money here too. tight lines
Went fishing at cape cod and had 5 people with me and kids too the limit is 8 and we met the limit then I got stich cleaning all the fish OMG WHAT A DAY AND WE GOT 7DOOR MATS OVER 4.5 each boy did we eat good and still have some vacuum sealed
Funny you mention the tub versus package being softer or stiffer than one another. I refuse to buy the package gulp unless it’s the only thing available. Especially anything with a grub tail, like mullets, nemesis, etc. Some have been so stiff in the packaging that they don’t have any action at all. Even some of the jerk shads have been super stiff. I’ll sacrifice durability for action any day. The softer the better IMO. Great videos as usual!!!
your a beast man. effd up and put your vid on b4 the crapper. dam my liver/prostate is effd. keep up the good work. kill your limit.don't limit your kill fine sir😂
Whatever it takes to get that gulp back LOL. When you take the buck-tail out and the gulp is still hanging in its mouth and you flip the fluke upside down and shake it out
Works the same I'm a huge flounder guy, thats all I fish for. I don't use ducktails or gulp and I kill them. Use my own grub lures and it's not to many days I go out I don't hit my limit. You just hav to know how to locate the fish and how to work your lures to get strikes.
The 6 inch chartreuse pepper neon jerk shad is a good color bait as well. Had some success with it out in deeper water over the weekend using your bucktail :-)

Another GREAT video sir. Always enjoying your videos and commentaries, great learning dialogue to the students of amateurs such like I. I do have a couple of statements/questions if you will, the color of plastics that you use and most effective, would that color of waters be a factor on productivity. Reason why, here is the Gulf Coast on the shores of Galveston, Tx. the waters tend to be more murky in contrast to your clarity of waters there. Y’all have much clearer waters. We tend to use more of the darker colors here such as chartreuse with black, chartreuse with pumpkin seed, occasionally white with chartreuse and pink colors in the mix. Also, have you tried or heard of the new bio degradable plastics called “Bio- Baits?” From what I have seen and observed, they are becoming quite popular in their productivity of catching fish. What are your thoughts?
