Trust me having a child is the best experience you can have...I just had my first child last month, she was two months premature but I look at her and I feel so much joy and feel so much happiness and I'd literally kill someone if they touched her I'm that protective already! I just gekd her for the first time a couple days ago and I swear I thought my heart would burst with the love I had for her! I didn't know I'd feel this way until she was here, it changes things!

I don't know why, but I love the ' I promise, I'll do better ' part so much. It's my favorite part of the whole song. It's almost like HE'S the child in this situation and he's so naive when it comes to the little baby in front of him and he's so afraid of letting him down that he has to continually promise himself and the infant " I'm going to do better...I'm going to do better... " It almost sounds more like a plea than lyrics.

I know most people would agree that this song is about a parent and a child, and I do agree as well, but, I see the song from a different point of view. I see it kind of like a guy singing to the love of his life, a girl that has been hurt a lot and she's scared of letting someone in, she has trust issues, and doesn't believe she's worthy of being loved. I feel like he's taking care of her and showing her that she is worthy.

This is not music, this is art, meaningful lyrics that are, unfortunately underrated, the instruments playing make it even more emotional and the voice... it's just heaven. ❤ When I don't know what to do, I feel a mess and I think that nothing can save me, I find guidance in songs and Sleeping at last is the first and only band that really gives me support and guidance. Today I found out that one of my best friend’s sister, that has been trying to get pregnant for 10 years, has had to say goodbye to her newborn baby due to complications. I will pray tonight that her baby is blanketed in angel wings, rocking in heaven’s cradle, slowly becoming visible in the night sky.
(This is just for me to vent out some frustration, you can ignore me if you’d like. I’m not looking for a pity party, I just want to get this out of my head and to you.)
My home was destroyed by Hurricane Harvey. I remember waking up early in the morning and peeking over the side of my bed, seeing a glassy sheet of water covering the floors. All of my valuables, everything I had ever lived with, it was all gone. All of it was just floating there, soaking in the water and washing away. The banging noises of doors opening and closing from the force of the water sloshing around, I can still remember the movement of the water as you walked through it. My mom and dad were stacking things up on top of beds and cabinets, in hopes to save them. Our house wasn’t supposed to flood - we had built it two feet above the last flood level. This wasn’t supposed to happen - I think that was what made it even more devastating. It was like something broke in me, watching my home filled up like a fish tank. I was so upset, I couldn’t even cry. And when I couldn’t cry, I felt even more upset. I wanted to find comfort somewhere - I needed comfort and reassuring more than anything right then. This song had nothing to do with the flood, but I had always listened to it, for it was one of my favorites. I listened to it, just staring at the screen. I cried, I admit it, I cried enough to fill our house up again. I’ve always been emotionally influenced by music, and the way things were going right now, I just snapped and let the floodgates go.
It’s been a long time since the flood happened, and we’re just about finished repairing our house. I wish I could’ve told myself back then that it would be okay, but at this moment I only had this song to comfort me. Now I cry every time I hear it, it’s just too painful for little crybaby me.

I don't consider you a crybaby. If you're that, then I'd be the weakest human alive in that situation. I would've screamed my throat raw, wailed, probably punch things in anger, and maybe even stab myself to prove it's not a dream (trust me, I've actually considered doing this kinda thing when my dad got hit by a truck). My worst nightmare is either my house flooding too quickly for anything (or anybody) to be saved, or burning rapidly. I can't image what that was like, as I live in Washington. There's nothing I can say except that I, too, am emotionally influenced by music and that I'm sorry for what happened. I hope that vent helped.

Instead of making me thinking about the kids I will never this song makes me think of my younger brother and all we have been through. I was 4 when he was born and right then I grew up, taking on the task of rasing a child. I basically raised my brother as I grew up; feeding him, getting him up for school in the mornings, picking out his outfits. I have always been there for him, though he may not know it and I love him to death. He is a sweet kid and this would be my song to him

Seriously, if i were the artist i would be a little disappointed with these comments - im not sensing much conviction out there. Here's my attempt to correct the situation ... This is a bloody great track!! Its delicate and subtle, but overwhelmingly emotional and powerful - much like most of their music. I take my hat off to you Sleeping at Last. You know exactly how to press all of my musical buttons. I can only aspire to be a musician with half as much talent. Maybe one day. :-)

I first came here because of a destiel edit. I didn't know the song was a dad singing to his child. I dont have children, as a teenager, thanks to God ^^ but i cried, because this song shows just a little sparkle of parents love for their kids. I want to have kids in my life. So yeah, I don't have children yet, but i already love them more than myself.
I do the opposite, I listen to songs I really like and then look for destiel edits using those songs. So glad destiel edits exist because I used them to convince my sister to ship it.

i swear, if i have a kid and i am the first thing it sees, i will barely whisper this song into the son/daughter of mine's ear. i really hope that i am a good parent; i'm worried that i will end up like my constantly stressed mom or abusive stepfather. i wish that i could be there for them forever, keeping them safe in a warm grasp, to make them a good person. to teach them respect, kindness, and to neglect anger is all i want. this song is a masterpiece and has changed my way of thinking about children quite a bit.

4 years ago I lost my baby girl, I had found out I was pregnant a few days before I miscarried. I lost a boy about a year later, and this year I welcomed my healthy rainbow baby into the world. I miss my other two so much, but I’m so thankful for my daughter
